I met Alfie after he gave his first concert in NYC. He came out to speak with people as they were leaving, which I did. Then I rushed back because I had forgotten my glasses, and he helped me find them. He’s an endearing, shy and massively talented man.

I beg to differ. While he has an amazing talent and voice, Colm Wilkinson is by far the best JVJ. He's the Sean Connery of Broadway.
Apparently Alfie auditioned for JVJ for the movie literally right before Hugh Jackman...they must’ve only wanted star power because how did they not cast him?! He’s phenomenal!

@@______-bp1ml I don't think many can. However, Jackman is a far better actor and his rugged baritone interpretation I find endearing. I will say Boe is objectively a better singer though. Crowe was a crock of shite though. There are plenty of decent drama school alumni that are decent actors with better bari/bass voices.

After watching the movie Les Mis, I wanted to show my husband what Valjean was actually supposed to sound like, and I came across this stunning performance by Alfie Boe. Thank you for making me cry; beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Beautiful, so much emotion. Ukraine fathers and mothers, crying out for their children -- just to live. Let them live.
May I add what comes to my mind when I hear this song - every single time. My brother, Edward, was in auto accident which ended his young life. I - always - think of my poor mother when she first learned about her son. They both are in Heaven now together. This brings me peace. I hope they both are in peace as well. 🙏❤️ 😢
I heard this song in concert when my son was serving our country in Iraq… the song grabbed be by the throat and wouldn’t let go; I couldn’t breathe. I look over at my husband, and he had the same reaction. What a beautiful emotional song, perfectly done here. ❤

What a beautiful gift you gave your beloved father. Everyone should have such a blessed transition. Hugs to you on the loss of your father.
I’ve seen Les Miserables three times. So soon as we are past this Covid pandemic, it’s the first performance, I shall book and, no doubt, I shall cry once more.
This was the song I chose for my husband's funeral five years ago , so emotional to this day
What a voice! So powerful, yet tender and vulnerable, and full of emotion! This song always sounds like a prayer, and his facial expression and especially eyes are so expressive that they make me cry. I can feel him vibrate like a musical instrument as he sings this like an angel!
If you have never experienced Alfie Boe live, I have to say you must make the effort if you can. He is a presence - a true force of nature, with a level of energy that is truly astonishing. There are waves of humor that leave you rolling in the aisles. Then...as you settle in to listen, his voice grabs you by the throat and leaves you gasping for breath. He is that good. I saw him with the Phoenix Symphony and the musicians of the orchestra were in tears right along with the audience!

He’s so amazing! Brought me to full on tears!
The older he gets the richer his tone . Beautiful
There's a story that when when Colm first sang this song, someone said that this was proof that the musical was about God. The response was "Yea, but you didn't tell me you got God to sing it." Well, if Colm is God, then this man is Jesus. Such power, my favorite Jean ValJean.

To this day, your song is my absolute favorite. My son used to travel across the United States for 20 years and during that time, many times I never knew if he was safe, as he worked on high tower and buildings doing dangerous welds, etc...And I would not hear from him sometimes for close to a year. He was first in the queue when God gave out beautiful voices....heavenly x
My dad passed in February I love this xx
How ever many times i listin to this , it always has the same effect, a tear in my eye. And Alfie’s rendition is the best.
Wow! He IS classically trained. He understands very clearly how much more support you need to sing a high note pianissimo, than to sing it loudly! And, the amount of buzz he has when he goes for it! He honestly reminds me of Mario Lanza! To put it in soprano terms, he has Caballe's high pianissimo AND Callas's squillo! Bravo, sir! An absolute pleasure to listen to you!
@Ignasimp
2 жыл бұрын
He has no squillo nor depth. He sounds nothing like Lanza. He sounds like Bruce Ford.

@@Ignasimp Hmmm. Well, I suppose everyone hears things differently. To me, I hear more of a lyric tenor in Bruce Ford. Hmmm. Perhaps Alfie Boe is a potential future spinto tenor, and that is what I am responding to. I don't know...
@Ignasimp

@@pointofnoreturn3103 i'm not talking about voice type, I'm talking about technique. Are you saying Alfie sounds like a spinto tenor to you?
@pointofnoreturn3103

@@Ignasimp I suppose it would be a question of how much weight he has to his tone, as well as overall size. In truth, I'm not a guru of determining facher. To be totally honest, I haven't determined my own fach. The only thing I can tell you is that coloratura agility has come FAR easier than legato! In the end, I am a Susan kind of soprano! Lol!
@Ignasimp
2 жыл бұрын
@@pointofnoreturn3103 My whole point though is that he has no real chestvoice. He sings with fake clarity and sounds like modern tenors (and that is not a good thing). Real classical singing sounds nothing like this.
I was privileged to see Mr. Boe perform in Les Mis and to this day he is the best Valjean I have seen in the 10 or so time I have seen the show.
The first ever time I heard this being sung, the opening immediately got me and I immediately thought of my brother in law out in Afghanistan at the time. Recently at a concert a singer started singing this and again it got to me as I thought about the first time I had heard it and the worry that I felt at this time. I then told my wife why I was getting emotional as I had never told anyone before. Truly brillant voice.
I think we all agree that this is the highlight of the concert! +R.I.P Herbert Kretzmer🙏+
To say that he is incredible is an understatement.
Alfie Boe always brings me to tears and deep emotion with his performance... Thank you very much, Alfie 👏👏🎼

I've heard about Les Miserables since I don't know when, also love the song I Dreamed a Dream, but have never watched the play/movie in full. I've tried to watch the movie, but can't stand the singing so I only manage to watch around 20 minutes or so. But last year I watched the 25th anniversary concert with Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean and I was blown away by the story, the songs, the singing, the emotion. I shed tears countless times...
I never thought anyone could be as great as Colm Wilkinson you changed my mind! Bravo!

I love his backstory of the role of music in his family, his early jobs of auto finishing, suggestion to try out for a regional music opportunity, finally got to London for training but slept on a park bench when he ran out of music, etc., etc. Excellent talent from a blue collar family.
An outstanding example of live theatre, and why we need it back in our lives! 2020 the year of no live entertainment, very sad! Bring it Back Home!

In person is the only way to truly appreciate his performance. I got to see him in NYC, and when he came, every other performer stepped up their A game, best performance ever. Saw people's heads jolt back when he opened up and a large man who sat besides me who sat there mostly unmoved started crying.
My all-time favorite. This version brought tears in my eyes and goosebumps all over my body. Thank for this 🙏❤️
My boss in the ad agency where I was a media manager was looking for an idea for our clients Christmas drink I wanted to just go for a meal in a swanky London restaurant but she told me that she had booked the best box in the Cambridge theatre London. I was not sure that I would like les miserables but I think that it was the best experience I have ever had in a theatre. I used to study drama so it had lots of competition but even now watching this the hairs on my next stand up Bravo!!!
Stunning.
Beautiful singer and used to love watching Les mis during COVID on you tube I always thought the singer sang to the piano but my mum who was a church organ playing when young she's sadly been dead 8 years said it's other way round and that's why a pianist keeps looking up at singer takes their cues from singer don't know if that's right or not but I just love Les mis
Alfie Boe for me the definitive Jean Valjean. Shivers down the spine, tears to the eyes.
What a Voice, and talent, one of the best Tenors the UK has!
I ALWAYS come home to Alfie Boe's rendition of this song - I don't care what anyone else says about the originator of the role - Alfie Boe IS the voice of Jean Valjean for me.
I absolutely agree ..he is amazing what a gifted vocalist...
The final note. made me cry.
Never tire of Les Miserables!!.. Thank you!!
Nice to hear a true dramatic style tenor able to bring all the richness of his classical training to the music AND nail the dramatic interpretation, too.
OMG no one sings tnis like Alfie Boe, so emotional. WOW!
I love how the audience waited until the song had ended before applauding!
This guy gives me chills every time he sings x
Alfie Boe tops the list.every time!
This made my soul happy
Love this song played this at my dad's funeral, seen les mis many times.
Could a man sing this without passion...impossible and this rendition shows how that emotion can be expressed so beautifully...just look at those tears in his eyes....
That is such a beautiful voice.
Wow! Why am I in tears?
Five years ago in London I could attend the show. Life was nice then. ...
Even his speaking voice is beautiful.
