There needs to be a level of professionalism and civil behavior. Yes, some 'comedy' goes too far or is not funny, but to resort to assault was dreadful. Apart from the theater audience, there is an audience at home, and this is Hollywood's chance to show its quality, its good side in a market of cheap streaming services.

Because there's rarely any Broadway stars these days that are interested in hosting the Oscars and that's unfortunate. Eh, the Oscars have been declining the last few years, honestly. There’s less celebrating the movies of the year, and more celebrities talking politics and other things in a ceremony that has NOTHING to do with those things. Looking at you, Brad Pitt. Of course, that’s not to say the Oscars haven’t had good moments, but it’s obvious the people in charge are more concerned with politics than celebrating the movies of the past year.

Interestingly there are some people among them who are known to be good actors but who also sing pretty well. Perhaps not as good as Anne and Hugh, but still pretty decently

Thirteen years later this is still quite a thrill.

I love the fact that during the performance, there were a couple times where he almost burst out laughing. He barely kept it together. Hugh is the best. He is HUGH JACKMAN!!!

Seriously, what a talent and what a role model for kids today. Hugh has really smashed the stereo type for young males to sing and dance.

I think everyone here underestimated the scale of the man's talent, hence the standing ovation at the end of the performance.

I love how he's so rightfully amused with his own performance, stifles a giggle because no matter how silly, his show must go on. He should host again. Another I'd love to see hosting is Kermit the Frog.

If you're gonna have Kermit in a musical number, i recommend bringing back Paul Williams. If you are too young to remember Paul, he was on lotsa TV shows in the sixties and seventies. He's a strange dude who wrote the Kermit hit song, "Rainbow Connection". (The other song I associate with Kermit is, "iI's Not Easy Being Green", written by Joe Raposo.) The song, Rainbow Connection, when sung by Kermit, is inspiring to me and gives me the chills. It's about how people are always looking for something 'magical' - whether that magic is something in the world or a 'magical' connection with another person. My fav lyrics are: -------- Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers and me. -------- What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing And what do we think we might see? The creator of the Muppets was Jim Henson. He's not a great singer, but there's a 'mysterious' quality to his voice. When he sings a song, you feel transported to a Disney-like place of wonder. The only other voice I can think of that has that same quality is Cliff Edwards, who sang When You Wish Upon A Star. That song will ALWAYS be, for me, the Gold Standard for songs for animated movies. Another 'goosebumps' song for me is, When She Loved Me from Toy Story. I've been a musician for decades, and it never ceases to amaze me how strong is the power of music. It can make you laugh, cry, hope, or despair.

I love the fact that among the writers of that opening were Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab. And they deservedly won an Emmy for it.

No one will ever top this man. Class act.

@@MuzzCat05 i think they meant that the public underestimates him, most people only remembers him as wolverine and stuck with the idea that he can only play macho-man type characters and only recently started seeing him as anything else than that thanks to the greatest show man

I like Hugh Jackman for the way he truly is enjoying this, trying not to burst into laughter a couple of times. I like how it's about him but he doesn't forget to make a thumbs up to the technicians in the end. He really seems to me like a great man, with of course, epic talent.

I keep coming back to this all the time. That duet is so wonderful, I actually want a Frost/Nixon romantic musical.

I watched this a couple of times. ...you know how hard that is ?? He never stumbled or missed a beat. That was amazing

He needs to host again, he was so natural and easy going.

With all respect, this will be the best opening number, not because were expensive. It's the best because was made with talent, love and courage. These are the same reasons Hugh is a Showman, and the best Host of the Oscars. A standing ovation was the minimun he deserve.

@@LeonardoMastrogiovanni It was not just Harmon, it was a team. It was also tested with HJ everytime. He even had some suggestions thrown in. Also, HJ acted and performed it - can any actor do the same exact type of performance. His stage experience is quite obvious in his excellent delivery. With aplomb, genuine talent & full-on charisma!

Honestly, this is where the Oscars peaked with opening numbers. It's still so good after so many years.

I've watched this over 10 times and each time it gets better. To do 8 minutes of FLAWLESS ENTERTAINMENT is so hard. He was AMAZING SIMPLY AMAZING !!!

Jjlinny 2345 I’d argue Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were good hosts. So was Billy Crystal.

This wasn’t the flashiest, the best rehearsed, the most flawless opening; but in my opinion still the best executed, unexpectedly charming, had the most realistic reactions, had great punchlines that didn’t even have to hurt anyone or throw shade; IT WAS CLASSY, HILARIOUS, AND ENTERTAINING
