When I lost my friend in Afghanistan in 2011 his mums words to me were ‘bring him home’ after much begging I flew him home to be with his family. During the service his mum held my hand. I wasn’t going to let go. Seb, I will never forget the day you died with me in a ditch in Afghanistan. I stayed with you until your family took you to your rest. I think about you everyday. Sleep well mucker xx

Beautiful. I am English but have had to live away from my country for over 20 years. We may not be great at some things but pageant and remembering our fallen boys and girls, nobody does it from the heart like us Brits do. No fakery, no hand on heart, no false sense of honour, we are always there, first up, first to defend , first to die for the cause, so first to be honoured and remembered.

I was in the auditorium for the matinée performance of this. Two things happened for me, 1) I had to resist the urge to join in singing along with Alfie, as I adore the song & 2) it was one of five occasions during the festival that I had tears in my eyes. A sublime performance in memory of my fallen comrades.

I would have been bawling the whole time, considering my connection through my grandfather's service as a B-24 Liberator pilot in WWII and my adoration of him as a person. Soaked up those stories like a sponge. We are a theatre family, although I'm really the one who can sing and play anything. Saw Les Mis 7 times, memorized the score, and this song for high school talent show. Did the performance to 2000 people........crickets......mom was scared I was going to start slinging 4 letter words.........when everyone stood up and started screaming. My heart just about burst. Song was about prayer for saving of lives, and all I could do was grin and wave was I left the stage.

Mr. Alfie Boe is a national treasure. This is a keenly poignant setting to music and song by the right artist. Thank you BBC for allowing the rest of us to experience this ceremony.
I have heard him sing this many times. He has never sung it better than that night. Such power. Such emotion.
There are no words to adequately sum up the power of this performance. The magnitude of Mr Boe's voice, the song choice... Brilliant!!! It was an Anthem, a Prayer... similar to hearing Nimrod. From an American to all from the UK and Commonwealth... sending the utmost respect.. #DutyHonorCountry... #AllgavesomeSomegaveall... 🏴🇺🇸🇬🇧

Beautiful every time. Wish we treated our veterans the same way. Noone is better than the British on pomp and ceremonies!! Love from U.S.A.
Wonderful respect for your armed forces and a brilliant performance by Alfie.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those in the armed forces who served and continue to serve to keep us safe, not only in wars but in times of national crisis when you step in to support essential services. You are the best of us. 🥰🏴🇬🇧
This is the perfect Voice... Alfie Boe. No frills or trills... his enunciation is perfect, not a dry house in the house.
There is another video of Alfie singing this at the Festival of Remembrance for 2013. His voice has remained so strong, so true. And this, with the drums being placed, the flags . . . this was amazing.
The emotion when he sings this song gets me every time.
