Clicked on the thumbnail then saw the video is 21 mins long and I went: ugh no way I'm gonna watch the whole thing. But then they started talking. And I couldn't stop listening, his questions, the things she talks about, opening herself up like that was all so interesting and all of it felt real and genuine. Massive props for the interviewer always asking the right questions and letting her express herself. Wish there was more interviews like this.

wow. I had no intention of watching this whole interview but she is so smart and thoughtful and he is such a gifted interviewer, I just kept listening - honesty as different than truth - lovely.

One of the better interviewers I've seen. The most important quality of an interviewer is the ability to listen. Too many interviewers think that they are the story. And, Brie is fascinating. You can tell she has something going on behind her eyes. I am so anxious to see "Room"

I think this may be one of the most original concepts in a movie that I have ever seen. For anyone who loves indie films, this is a must see. If you see it, let me know what you think. This is a really fascinating interview in two ways. Larson gives insight into the deeply personal revelation she discovers and relates it to the broad brush strokes of the character she portrays in "Room." Equally compelling is the interviewer, CBC's Shadrach Kabango, who is both interesting and interested. He is vested in the complex understanding of the character, the actress, and her process in how she arrives at the crossroads of isolation and rebirth. Most impressively, he asks all of the right questions, not being distracted into the usual superficial fawning that is so popular with entertainment media. He reveals himself as more Charlie Rose than Ryan Seacrest. I'd never heard his music or seen an interview from him, but found him so deeply compelling that I wish he would seriously pursue this line of work in a larger medium. I'm an instant fan.

i could listen to brie larson talk for hours. she is such a kind hearted person and you can really tell that she takes pride in her work. i will never understand why she gets the hate she gets. she is truly and incredible women for i inspire to be.

Brie deserved that Oscar so much. She is the hardest working actor in Hollywood and I'm sure it took a lot of blood and tears for her to get this far in life and in her career. I have so much respect for her, she's just your girl next door with some big acting chops.

Even though I am quite similar to Brie for spending time alone at home rather than going out (I need both but I prefer doing my own stuff), the lockdowns really hit me hard. I felt trapped. The little contacts to other people became difficult to maintain. Having to stay at home for many hours (besides work) and the entire unsure situation wasn't good for my mental health. Although we as viewers judge a movie by how much we like it and not by how much the actor trained or to what extremes he went to be his/her character (and most of the time we don't know about their preparation process), we should admire them for doing so. Acting is not learning your lines, talking to the director and then doing stuff in fron of the camera. It's a hard and challenging role to role job that nobody would want to do because it's so hard and unsteady.

this was a great interview. i love that he asks real questions about her process and stuff men get asked about their serious roles all the time. her answers are so thought out and interesting. i've thought she was fantastic since i saw her in united states of tara, glad to see her in more and more:)

Wow. She's so deep. Amazing. I like how she wants to try and show real women... Maybe that's why CM resonated with me. I was really able to connect with her portrayal. Then I see Short term 12 and Room. OMG. She's so amazing.

This is amazing. I love her point of view. Women should not be represented as perfect beings in cinema, but rather all of their complexities and imperfections should be broadcasted so that there is a balance that creates a realistic and "honest" character. I admire her appreciation for imperfections.

Whoa Brie is so transparent, open, insightful and real...great interview !

I feel what she feels. being an introvert because the situation. and dont know how to socialize properly like everyone else. At first, i dont plan to watch this full, just wanna see "cpt marvel", but its interesting interview to listen.

I'd like to see this guy run a Hollywood Reporter type round table. He was really good, as was Brie.

It's crazy hearing the question "What do you want the future of your career to look like?" and at this time she was Captain Marvel, just no one knew yet. She's come so far and deserves all og the success. Just sucks she's got trolls after her all the time for no reason.

I watched Captain Marvel and I didn't really like it mainly because of the acting, it just didn't feel like she was the right choice for that role. Then I went on YT and watched a few of her interviews and they didn't help much, it just became easier for someone to dislike her. But I got interested to see other movies that she's been a part of. (It's too easy to judge based in only one movie). So I looked up and watched Room, and what a incredible movie that was, she was amazing, she managed to transfer the emotions in a incredible way and the connection between her and Jack was just beautiful. It really was. Then I came to this interview, and it completely changed the way I see her, I can say that I can relate with what she said about the art, her perspective of the truth, and with what she's been through. I don't know what happened, but she really changed in those four years. The lesson that I learned is, before you judge someone, go look them up, don't form your opinion based just on headlines and other's opinions. Right now I'm really rooting for her to succeed as Captain Marvel.

I totally agree with you. I've been seeing so so so many articles and videos talking about how she's so arrogant and rude and how people are calling her "The most hated person." It's really upseting because I'm a big fan of Brie's and I really admire her acting in "Room" and "Short Term 12." I have seen a few of those videos myself and I too am wondering what has changed within these 4 years. I feel like her bluntness/sarcasm is sort of her way of dealing with this new "fame" because before she only did smaller/indie films so jumping from that to being in the MCU is a huuuge career step and she's said herself how introverted she is and that was one of the reasons she almost didn't take the Captain Marvel role. I don't know... I just wish everyone could see her older films and interviews because she was much more relaxed, chill, and silly! Sorry for whatever this is, a rant? Lol. This topic has just been so upsetting for me. Hope to see her return to smaller films in the future!

Hi. Maybe this is part of what she was talking about being honest. I think her honesty in CM maybe didn't resonate with you, but it really did resonate with me. I have seen all these superhero women in other movies but I could not relate to anyone of them. Then Brie comes and portrays CM, and just right then and there, I rooted for her. CM is I guess, for women like me, and it's just so sad that our positives feelings are overshadowed by all the hate she is getting. It's unfair that after we get a superhero we can relate to, these trolls comes and tries to ruin it for us. But I'm really glad that you tried to search for her and then now is rooting for her.

I would say your right but for me it was the other way around : I watched room first and thought she was a really good actor( which she WAS) but after she get her Oscar she just started bragging and didn’t really try. I don’t know if she changed or if she just showed how she is really but from my point of view now she didn’t deserve all her awards just because she became a terrible arrogant and bitchy feminist. (Btw the acting in captain marvel is so bad... it’s no comparison to room at all. There were no emotions and I had the impression that she just was reading her script out load like someone from the news.)

And people hate her?? Get a life, people.

This is pretty much the most professional and deep spoken interview I have ever seen.

I've seen many interviews after this. Not just Room. But, , they have so disappointed me. This is special. Now, I truly understand why I love this interview. As an interviewer, talk when you really have something to say. Other than that, learn to listen. This is a beautiful Interview. It doesn't often happen.

I knew she was an incredible actress since I watched her years ago in United States of Tara, and recent Marvel press interviews (and I've seen a lot....) really made me appreciate her personality and wit, but this in depth and serious one got me to really appreciate her even more. She seems like a really great person.

I know I am not saying anything new here, but I felt like reiterating what other "commentors" have said already: what a fantastic interview. I loved how in-depth the conversation was. The interviewer made Brie Larson feel at ease, and let her express herself, let her be articulate and introspective without interruptions. His questions flowed naturally out of her responses. I'd like to see more interviews like these.

"His questions flowed naturally out of her responses." Bingo! So often the interviewer tries hard to hit all the questions on the cue card, it feels forced and awkward. This is how interviews should be done.

I have so much love and respect for this woman. I don't have a particularly unique or keen gift of reading people, but I always sensed something special about Brie, even from her supporting roles and smaller, less in depth interviews. I especially appreciate and can relate to her points about isolation and how even as a natural introvert, someone who enjoys his or her own company, the value in being around others is unquestionable. It's easy to be over-confident and forget the necessity of back-and-forth communication, not just your own inner conflicts and debates.

This interview is great in all angles. Brie is very thoughtful and the interviewer is a great listener. I listened to the 20mins without realizing it's been that long and was ready for more. Very well done.

I’m so confused by people complaining about her acting in Captain Marvel. I really don’t think there could have been a better portrayal. Captain Marvel is very stoic character in the comics.

I truly believe this is the best interview I have ever seen in my life.

brie is so next-level, as a person. her acting will always be strong because of that. she always make the audience sink into her characters as a result. i first saw her in United States of Tara, it was obvious then that she makes thoughtful, interesting choices. this interview confirmed that when she talks of her childhood and her mother's imaginative mind.

Fantastic interview. Great actress and the interviewer is one of the bests I've ever seen. Really refreshing.

It’s crazy what isolation does to a person. When i lived in Nashville, TN (July 2015 - June 2016), i lived alone in a dark and very quiet apartment. After the first few months, the isolation started to get to me, i would talk to myself or keep the tv on just to hear a voice of some kind or if anything, the static of the tv itself. Prolonged Silence/ isolation will drive an individual up the wall. I have dealt with anxiety, panic attacks, and occasional bouts of depression since high school, which made my living situation more difficult at the time. Leaving an individual to their own devices and mental chatter can do some crazy stuff.

She is such a great actress, really looking forward to seeing this film and what she does in the future.

She is such an amazing actress and she inspires me just hearing her speak. I feel like she's been underrated for so long in happy she is finally getting the praise she's deserved!! Awesome interview, awesome woman, I'm sure it will be an awesome movie. I have no doubt in my mind that she will stun us all with this performance because the book/dialogue is perfect and could only be fulfilled with an actress of her caliber.

This interview is fantastic. This interviewer is asking such amazing questions and he seems genuinely interested in the actress, the movie, and her acting process.

Respect. I have paralyzing depression and anxiety, etc. and I can relate to what she was saying on some level about how she felt while preparing for the role as I've gone entire Summers without even leaving my house. Thankfully, I have my phone and can feel as though I'm communicating with the outside world even through simply looking at Facebook posts and videos like this. I can imagine though the sense of hopelessness and feeling absolutely insane that sets in when you have nothing but a book to keep you company - I've been there too, but not for a month constant.

I didn't realize Brie had Crazy Eyes. But she's a wonderful actress so it makes sense. :)

I thought I'd get bored half way through the interview but she's very intriguing.

I work in film (in Toronto) and have worked on many pieces, this film was driven to an emotional end that drained me. Brie will take you on a ride, a must see!... brie you are beautiful! keep up that rush.

Great fucking interview. This what actors and actresses should be asked about, things that revolve around their process and the human aspects of their occupation rather than their wardrobe. Both great questions and great answers.

For some reason, she reminds me of Sean Schemmel (English VO of Goku). Obviously there’s differences, but the similarities I’ve noticed are that both are reserved in nature which sometimes rubs folks the wrong way. However, when they warm up to the interviewer, there can be deep conversations.

Ok I'm going to be honest when I heard she would be Captain Marvel I was skeptical, I just didn't picture her as some super hero. After watching this interview I'm so excited to see the movie. Great interview. She's quite the thoughtful and introspective actress. Room was an extremely powerful movie, and her performance was Oscar worthy. I love how different her personality type is as Captain Marvel. Her dry sarcastic personality separates her from just about every other character with the exception of Tony Stark. She'd make a great Mara Jade if Disney ever came to their senses and tried give us the post Return of Jedi movies and/or show we deserve instead of the sequel drivel we got.

I just saw Room it was a great movie a depressing movie but a great movie and Brie was fantastic she deserved the oscar.

i used to live with my son in a tiny one bedroom apartment till he was 5. just me and him. that pure love, most if the moments she shares with her son in room are things i have experienced on some level. completely hit me repeatedly with a ton of bricks. ugly cried through the whole thing.

First I saw this guy interview was Norm MacDonald way back. Forgot how good he is.

Such an inspiring interview, I love how various concepts, thoughts and wants are interconnected. Lovely.

I know she gets a lot of hate for Captain Marvel but anyone who seen Room cannot dent how amazing of an actress she actually is. Her performance will move you in ways others can’t. Either the role of CM wasn’t for her or she wasn’t really made for it or the way she played her wasn’t ideal or what people wanted. Or the writing was just plain bad. Nevertheless she’s a wonderful actor
