Brian has stated many times that he has mixed emotions about Landy. He realizes that he was taken advantage of, but probably would have died without Landy's control.

This seems surreal. Like out of a movie. I can't believe how sociopathic Landy was and how disconnected Brian seems during the whole interview. It makes me so sad. Glad he got back on track now.

Some guy on a message board regarding the new movie 'Love and Mercy' was saying how they 'held back' in terms of the portrayal of Landy being a scumbag. I didn't believe it... but after watching this, holy cow I believe.

Paul Giamati does an excellent Dr Landy in Love & Mercy. Imagine having your life controlled for you 24/7 for YEARS? There is a special place reserved for those who prey upon others in their time of need.

scariest part of this video is at the very end, when they mention a "former employee of landy who saw a DRAFT WILL giving Eugene Landy the BULK OF EVERYTHING BRIAN WILSON HAS" things could have easily went way differently for Brian. Such a fascinating story... very grateful that Landy was ousted and scrutinized closely, probably saved brians life.

Just saw Love and Mercy. Paul Giamatti gave an absolutely brilliant, dead-on accurate portrayal of Eugene Landy as a manipulative sociopath. The resemblance to the real Landy in this video is chilling. According to interviews, he actually underplayed the role somewhat since nobody would believe just how evil Landy really was.

Yes, this is painful to watch, but the good news is that (still with the help of "handlers") he is out and about again doing what he so brilliantly does - create music from the vision he has in his head. An absolute genius. I'm a 57 yr old musician (bassist) that will be forever indebted to Mr. Wilson for the inspiration and vision he gave me. An incredible influence in my own music to this day. A genius.

I met Landy and Brian. Brian was kind of shy. Landy did all of the talking. After meeting them, i continued to do my job. Within a few minutes a couple of girls had come up to them. Landy, again, did all of the talking. He was encouraging the young ladies to come back with him and Brian and hang out in Brian's house in Malibu with them.

I can't seem to quite get around to villanizing Love, and even Murray was largely understandable (but still not excusable). Landy however... I'm willing to thank him for pulling Brian out of the drug filled obesity hole. Knowing little about him, I chose not to make an impression about him in the event that there might be more good. However, now that I've seen this video I feel I can safely make up my mind about his character. So far in life my first impression of someone's personality based upon their face has never failed me, and Landy does not look to me like someone I would be comfortable being in the same town with. To me his body language simply screams "LIAR!", and I'm an introvert with a severe lack of social skills. If he looks like a liar to me, I'm pretty sure the impression is unavoidable to everyone else. How did the family not see it? Did they just ignore their first impression because Brian needed help badly?

+Kelly Harris The sad truth is that Brian is actually like a lot of geniuses, a schizophrenic, and takes meds to this day. He was WAY out of control for years and the family relied on him and wanted him to keep "taking care" of them too. Mike Love was always taking advantage of him and his musical contributions were always the "cheese" on the top of Brian's prime rib! When Brian made Pet Sounds while the Beach Boys were out on tour he balked at the new sounds and departure from crappy surf tunes and songs about girls and cars… he wanted to maintain a formula that was already VERY passé even in 1966! He was the main reason that SMILE was never made and shelved, taking the masters and picking songs from the LP that he wanted to do and recording an LP using Brian's songs WITHOUT BRIAN, who had just given them their magnum opus TWICE as the most influential LP of the time and the single Good Vibrations… pushing Brian into a paranoid hole from his open derision of his gifts. Even 45 years later, the LP Smile, completed by a much older and addled Wilson won multiple Grammies and accolades. It's Love's ultimate desire to cash in and stick to the "cheese" that put him up front of the band with his hackneyed white boy Do Wop cliches, singing about fuel injection and inane subjects that we all outgrew in our early teens. Love has done a disservice to the band over the years and pushed Brian into his more relevant solo career and the Beach Boys as his own band playing oldies with himself as the only original member now touring. He's also a raging addict and at the same time a conservative republican, often declining into some paranoid ranting and self important "word salad" ramblings of self-aggrandizing for things he only ever diminished in their beauty.

Sean Sweeney (You are aware that the post is a year and a half old, and that I've had plenty of time to find more BB stuff, right?) Although I would never be friends with Love, I still can't quite maintain eternal hatred for him. In the intern, I made a rather lengthy post about him in another video about my belief that the destruction was not because of Love, or mostly because of Love... but rather because he was the last straw on Brian's already crummy life. I hope you eventually find it, it's quite a lengthy read and I have no desire to retype it here when this video has nothing to do with Love.

Lily John to an extent they didn’t know because he clad Brian cut almost all contact with not only The Beach Boys but his family. Now he did to a small extent help Brian out. But he also hurt Brian more than he helped him. He looked drugged and most of his responses sounded rehearsed or scripted. And I mean no Ill towards Brian because I don’t think he fully understood what was happening.

The world of the Beach Boys was a crazy scene. Landy was definitely bad news at the end, though he saved Brian's life. When you realize that on Brian's B-Day, family/Beach Boys members sent him 10lb of See Candy when he was struggling with his weight or that that "fabulously" (hehehe) talented Mike Love claim that he co-wrote with Brian many of the hits?!?!? "Sweet Insanity" was an interesting set of songs, ranging from godawful to delightfully playful. Will those songs ever be heard?!?

Landy did undoubtedly save Brian's life but he was also an opportunist who hung-on for the riches and never let go. Mike Love said that Brian was Landy's goose that laid the golden egg. Well, Brian was Mike's (and others) goose before Landy ever came along. Too bad Love and the others were not more pro-active in taking care of Brian in the early days.

A very interesting post. The reporter is very good indeed. It makes me wonder why Landy agreed to allow these interviews. He must have been aware that the journalist he was facing would be more than capable of exposing his misdeeds. And she certainly nailed him! Still, it shouldn't be forgotten that Brian is alive today and making great music. Landy went too far but without radical treatment, Brian would definitely have been finished. All in all, it's a very bizarre story.
