BRIAN MAY:
"Towards a New World - not back to the old one. No MicroConcert tonight - just a micro-rant. Not very coherent, I’m sure - I’m tired and in pain - but an attempt to say - before it’s too late - “Wake up Britain” - and “Rise to the occasion, Boris”. The world we had before this CoronaVirus was not good enough. We need a radical rethink. If you agree ... DO something about it !!! Make your voice heard !!! Time to #RethinkBritain
Cheers

I completely share your feelings, Brian. I have been worrying that after this is over we'll go back to the place we were. And that terrifies me a lot more than the pandemic in itself. We need to put restrains onto business polluting our atmosphere (car and plane industries, oil companies, mass tourism, unethical animal farms) and change our ways forever.

PLEASE, Before u criticize a man who is now looking at all of us improving what wr have been doing that we now see has been detrimental to the environment, including his new views of his own past habits, LISTEN TO WHAT HE IS SAYING, HEAR HIM !! He is saying what he feels should be changed for the betterment of our lives from now on forward, including his own habits. He clearly stated he is looking at his tours' travel habits, didn't u listen? Dr. MAY Is trying as one man to have us & Boris Johnson rethink our lives & our habits, & our goals. Pls don't be so quick to criticize an articulate, well read, well bred, educated man who is passionate about OUR LIVES, not himself only. I wish more people were concerned about the rest of the world as he is. He has children, grand children, friends & a wide audience that gives him the right to remind us all where this planet is headed. Why not hear what he is saying instead of jumping to criticize a man who is beloved & respected by millions & is pleading for us to simply RETHINK our habits. Dr.May, thank u for your humanity & passion in these dark days. I can't tell u how much I appreciate people like u who speak out for the clear reason of helping other people look at things more clearly. You are a gift to the world. Keep up yr messaging, it can help significantly. And thank u for your courage & selflessness to try to make the world a safer, more rewarding place for us all. SAILOR SUZIE from Oregon

Although I myself am struggling with the fact that I am a meat eater, I still agree with you on this one, Doctor. I relish the fact that pollution and man-made damage to the environment has decreased exponentially since the pandemic reached global proportions. I’ve often said during this period of lockdown here in the states that it would be great if we could perpetuate the decrease in pollutants by doing more to replace combustion with electric and auxiliary engines.

During this so called pandemic I was very much focused on the US. Now I'm sad to hear the same pain, concerns and attitudes are also on the other side of the pond. On this side because of lock down the waterways and even the gulf turned clear and beautiful again. Large animals were running freely in city streets! It is now our Memorial Day weekend and thousands of people flocked to the beaches, no social distancing, no packing their trash. It took less than a day to return to old ways, may God somehow forgive us. I do believe this virus will return with a result larger than the first because of people focused only on themselves. I am keeping myself for the most part locked down, my new hobby is gardening, canning and dehydrating food in hopes of being able to smell the clean air and enjoy mother earth again. I am not alone! Congratulations Brian, so grateful you are healthy. We all love you.

Here is my little take on it.: I have lived a few places and do love nature. But nature is a balance. We have just gotten out of balance. I agree with conservation/ different then environmentalist(Sorry) Need a balance. Yes humans are stepping all over nature, but a full stop can not really be the answer. (I hike//leave no sign) Example: (USA) we all went from paper grocery bags to plastic>>I said bad idea>>paper bio friendly and clean. ( We just used the paper bags for everything when I was grown up. Cooking liners/trash cans/ put them in the garden etc.) Plastic?? you all know how many things are wrong with that. Cloth bags>>good IF all people use them and CLEAN them. Need to slow things and get back to a balance a better balance. I do love you Dr. May, do get some healing rest. God bless you and yours.

I call this ....the What If’s ? Brian. What If ? All wars were to end All suffering was gone All hunger was filled And all poverty flown What if ? All pain was to disappear And comfort was to emerge Is this the lesson we all must learn ? What If ? Love replaced hate With kindness and faith And joy was to endure Would we be the same as we were before ? What If ? Optimism cured doubt. Would we know what it’s all about ? What If ? Sadness evaporated And left only happiness What if ? Selfishness had left the station Thoughtfulness and patience could stand in its place I could begin to see the smiles on everyone s faces What if ? All fear was complimented by the noble and the brave What If ? Shame shed it’s tears and only truth was to remain What if ? Pollution and disease suddenly vanished Is there anything better we could do for our planet ? Leave only your footsteps And let it be written We gave the best and forgot all the rest Even now, in our darkest days We can still embark on THIS lifes’ greatest of journeys.

There’s only so much the everyday person can do. Vegetarian food gets expensive and our family don’t have the money to get solar panels on our roof or buy a rainwater tank. If only the government made it cheaper and easier for us, but unfortunately the only thing the Australian government is interested in is coal. I hate that big companies and organisations put the blame on the little people when they sit on their big piles of money and don’t do anything themselves, and don’t do anything to make it easier for us. We keep getting told to only take 2 minute showers and turn lights off etc, but why isn’t our country’s water actually recycled so we don’t have to worry about this? Why is our power running on coal rather than large scale solar farms (especially on such a sunny and open country)? We are made to feel guilty while they sit back and don’t actually do anything to help us.

  • @ariesred777

More fresh vegetables and fruit is cheaper than fast foods including highly processed salt/sugar dead food.Australian government subsidised on solar panels years ago which benefited many aussies and we now have been handed a $400Billion bailout for covid19 Jobkeeper,Jobseeker,Benefit Allowance payments nationally. We will pay for this over the next few decades.Use it wisely while you can.We are a small population with a lot of space to breath and many other natural benefits we take for granted.

  • @Fitzroyfallz

ariesred777 a few solar farms are not enough. Our whole country could be powered by solar if we wanted to, but the government keep opening up new coal mines like adani. They are not doing enough, and that is a fact. We cannot continue along this route. Also, vegetarians need more than vegetables. They need protein replacements, and those get expensive. Besides, I tried going fully vegetarian and it made me unwell. Not everyone is able to be vegetarian/vegan.

アリガトウ!I wish you were the leader of this world. I'm also disappointed with the Japanese government. Why do they always say MONEY, I mean economy, before saving lives? MONEY is only for human beings, is this really necessary? What if there were no concept of money? But LIFE is for all creatures, plants, nature, so hadn't we better to take it for the first priority? As you say, it's time to change the world. So many politicians have zero imagination, it's like stopping a thinking circuit, no courage, but they don't notice that. But I'm sure some of them feel something wrong this time. I will try to send your message to the Japanese government anyway, one of my friends is a politics manager of a TV station. No one person can do it. But everyone can make a contribution - so thank you for speaking out. We have to build a mass movement to do it. A mass movement based on the working people of the world (and, yes, you are one too, even if highly paid) who will build a world based on the highest values of human solidarity and humanity. There are many in the UK committed to building this world today. The Debenhams' workers in Ireland, for instance, are on the front lines of what will become a world movement.
