Breaking The Unwritten Rules (part 6)

When I made the first video over 2 years ago I never would’ve thought that I would end up making 5 more and who’s to say that I won’t be on a part 10 eventually? The Unwritten rules of baseball are like the honor code and you wouldn’t want to break them! #MLB #Baseball #WesleyAPEX

@@spencerb6883 I don't care if I'm down by 10+ runs (regardless of what inning it is - though if it's the 9th inning, the odds are rather in the pitcher's favor than mine unless I'm pinch hitting). If my team is losing, I'm going to do my best to help the team win. If that means the other team's pitcher loses their no-hitter, then oh well! The pitcher best keep his great pitching going to keep his no-hitter. That's why it's called a game - for both the pitcher AND the hitter.

The scarcity of bunting helps make baseball the inferior sport it's becoming. Any player who can ably bunt (the easiest way to make bat contact with a pitch) could probably beat MLB infielders about 50 per cent of the time, and could vie for league leadership in on-base percentage and runs scored. Any team that does not require every player to practice bunting as part of BP declares in effect that it doesn't take winning seriously.

In most of these bunts, the infielders were playing shifts and way, way deep. They set themselves up for these bunt hits. When you got your 4 infielders (way deep) and your 3 outfielders on the same half of the field, don’t be surprised if they bunt where’s there are no players. You set yourself up for that one. These shifts help lower the hit total but don’t cry when it backfires.

NO CRYING!! >.

The count is stacked in the pitchers favor and has no reason to throw at him. Plus announcers HAVE talked about how intentional hitting a batters was but will usually first think about the situation and the pitch that was thrown to think if hitting a batter was intentional or not.

The whole bunting to break up a no-hitter thing has levels... if it's 10-0 in the 8th or 9th, that's bush league... but a 2-run game in the 7th or a scoreless game in the 5th? Get real... your team still has a legit chance to win

It’s ALWAYS fair game to try and get on base, that’s literally the name of the game. Fuck the feelings of the other pitcher/team. If they don’t like it, stop it.

So, let me as a foreigner get this straight: If someone bunts to get to first base in the 5th or 6th inning(?????) of a low-scoring game and 'ruins' a no-hitter, this gives the other team the 'moral justification' to chug a high-speed giant projectile harder than a rock at the opposing batter's body?????

Gotta love after a pitcher beams someone, the catcher talks to him trying to justify it, if you're going to hit someone hit someone, don't act like the good guy.

The problem with these "unwritten rules" is that no one has written them down. ANYONE can claim ANYTHING they DON'T LIKE is an "unwritten rule". Personally, I don't have a problem with bunting to break up a no-hitter when it's a one- or two-run game. The job of the hitter is to get on base in any legal way possible. It is NOT the HITTER'S job to help the pitcher get a no-hitter. To my mind, the only valid "unwritten rules" are things that involve showboating, like standing in the batter's box to watch a home run, or flipping the bat. You know, things that involve showing up the opponent. If you want to watch your homer, then you should take off and run your bases.

@@lordvader3666 Yeah, I don't think I worded that part very well. Permit me another crack at it. I, too, have no problem with someone watching their homerun, ESPECIALLY if it's a hitter who doesn't hit very many. However, I think simple etiquette would dictate that you begin at least WALKING toward first base as you watch the ball go over the fence. Once it clears the fence, break into your trot. I don't think you should stand in the batter's box or gesture at the pitcher or so forth, because now you're just rubbing it in and THAT is POOR SPORTSMANSHIP!!

@Myself andI Actually, I'm not a big fan of the long, protracted "celebrations" after touchdowns or sacks. Spiking the ball is fine. Some little dance or something after getting a sack is fine. However, these long, choreographed "routines" are getting way out of hand and, to my mind, detract from the game. That said, if the league wants to allow it, then I guess I'll just live with it.
