If you take all the episodes with the black and white cold opens they not only foreshadow what happens in the finale, but if you put the titles together, they literally spell it out for you: Seven Thirty-Seven Down Over ABQ (Albuquerque).

This episode's theme is innocence and the color pink represents it- Holly's clothes are pink. Holly and Jane both had rolled up towels placed behind them while laying on their side. Jane wore pink lipstick. They show Jane's pink bedspread when Donald is picking out her forever-outfit- there's a pink teddy bear and a girl falling on the mural in her room as well which represents the fall from innocence- Jane's death, the passengers falling from the planes and more specifically the child who played with the bear while relating it to Walt's family and even Jesse's soft spot for children. The teddy bear relates to Jesse's actions involving Jane too. You could say Jane was originally innocent when she first met Jesse judging strictly off her 18th month chip. In the beginning of 'Phoenix' there is a weathered pink teddy bear laying lifeless on the ground outside in that same episode Walt turns down his daughter's birth for instead a deal with Gus- trading and leaving behind the innocence of his newborn for supplying more substance and even destroying the innocence of people's lives like Jesse's. Also Ted was there for her birth instead of Walt. Walt is even watching a nature program about a mother elephant & her calf as Skyler sings a lullaby to Holly in her room. When Jane is on the phone with Walt she says: "do right by Jesse or I will burn you to the ground". I think of a phoenix rising from the ashes a part of Heisenberg representing the phoenix when he let Jane die something snapped, a new side of him was revealed- a darker evil arose because Jane was not an immediate threat to Walt & Jesse in that situation unlike previous times with others. In the very beginning of the season Walt said he needed $737k for his family while the sound of a plane flew over him and Jesse. The plane that crashed was a boeing 737. (BB writers organically wrote the story as the show went along) Walt visiting the crack house made him aware of the impact he's making and what his actions are fueling and the substance abuse is even linked to Jane's father Donald crashing the planes. (There was a real life air traffic controller by the name of Walter White who was responsible for crashing two planes into each other- one of the planes was headed from Mexico). In an interview with Vince when asked about the significance of the two-faced bear's eyeball he said it represents the all-seeing eye of God. I believe this series is about self-deception, to which everyone has a propensity. The salmon-pink sweater confirms that Walt is directly correlated to it all in one way or another.

ABQ is an airport code. It's the abbreviation for Albuquerque, New Mexico. LAX is for Los Angeles. ATL is for Atlanta, Georgia. And so on.

2:02 - "NTSB" stands for "National Transportation Safety Board". They investigate air disasters. I knew immediately that it was a plane crash the first time I saw the letters on the van - an unfortunate spoiler for me. 🙂

The man that played Jane's dad is so damn good. John de Lancie. One of the many things he's played on is Charmed. Which I think you may have seen... he played an elder, over Leo. Around the time of the avatars. After Gideon. (Hope you know what I'm talking about😂)

21:05 - Pilots and ground crew communicate using a phonetic alphabet instead of saying letters ("Alpha", "Bravo", "Charlie", etc.). The letter "J" is "Joliet". But he substituted his daughter's name instead. That's where his mind went dark.

Jane's Dad accidentally said "Jane" instead of "Juliet" then said "Disregard" , nullifying the direction he just have. That's why the planes crashed into each other. So sad 😢

Honestly, I think I didn’t understand the magnitude of the situation! But mostly I am so deep into the drama between our characters that the crash took the backseat.. let’s say Skyler said she was catching a plane to go stay with her mom or something, seeing the crash would’ve had me more in a panic because I would be wondering if Skyler was on one of those planes (not that the rest of the people don’t matter but in the context of the show they aren’t “real” people to me you know what I mean?) I’m sorry for trying to justify my reaction but I feel bad lol because I can totally see how it can be an underwhelming reaction to this finale and I hate to disappoint😩

@@eviereactsNo need to justify your reactions. Some people might get slightly offended when you don’t react how they want you to. They just have to understand they can’t have it both ways. Your real fans want you to react exactly how you would if you were watching it by yourself. I mean seriously, what do people want you to do? Take a poll of how you should react LOL??

Such a nice change of pace. I hope she never alters her view just to please the masses. I love her views. And respect her honesty.

@@eviereacts One other thing that most people don't realize. That teddy bear with "the eye". Who generally has teddy bears? Kids. Little Children. There were kids on those planes that collided. Kids that are now DEAD.

Fascinating to see how a plotline conclusion that hit most viewers like a sledgehammer seemed to make little impression here - no criticism of the reactor. It has me wondering if it isn't all a little too contrived - the foreshadowing with the hints and the episode titles; maybe even a bit crass - depicting the deaths of hundreds just to make a dramatic point, then move on. Interesting what a different perspective can do.

Good point. I used to think it was a great build-up to a "WTF-final". But after a few years and seeing a lot of reactions that IMO (!) completely "over-crazed" about Walts involvement, I more and more think, that it was really a pretty bad choice in the context of the whole show. Ofc I don't want to spoiler anything.

I don't think I like the idea of humans being at the controls of an air traffic control tower. I think I would feel better if computers ran that.

  • @mrtveye6682

Well there is massiv computer aid involved in air traffic safety. And usually, planes even have a collision avoidance system "talking" to each other and "negotiating" escape routes that will be shown to the pilots. Alt least this is true today. The true accident over LA this storyline is based on (and yes, the ATCs name was Walter White) was in 1986, I'm not sure if those systems where already a standard back than, esp. not since in that accident, a small private plane was involved. And there are other safety features assisting the ATC in the towers, so a crash like in this episode wouldn't happen "just" because one ATC lost track of one plane. And I probably wouldn't have happened when this episode was made.

@@mrtveye6682 Thank you. I'm aware air travel today is much safer compared to a few decades ago. Two planes colliding in mid flight is very unlikely as you stated. However, airplanes do have to enter the same plane to land and to take off. Unfortunately that happens at the airports. While in flight a plane is the safest place to be, entering the glide path to land and taking off from the runway today involve two fully loaded planes traveling at high speeds. Human errors do happen like misunderstanding the tower while these planes are navigating landing and taking off. The near misses we see and hear about on the news often happen because of human error. Pilots are international and English is not everyone's "primary" language. Once you clear the runway on take off and enter the glide path for landing you still have the danger of bird strikes because you are no longer at 34,000 feet. Like I said human error is unavoidable. It will happen. In the 30's and 40's people operated elevators for you. Today there is not a single person who stands there and operates the elevator for anyone. Its all automatic. I'm just saying maybe its time they remove the human from making these flight errors and replace them with computers. If they did it for elevators then they can do it for planes. Lets not bring up Boeing's Max problems due to human errors.

2:03 I was hoping you'd be only the 2nd reactor (of 1000s) to get it right away based on the ABQ designated Airport Code for Albuquerque and the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) van shown in the beginning of the episode that it was a plane crash. But, it's ok- you're still more gorgeous than most of the other reactors. :)
