The people there were so hospitable, and curious about foreigners, like I was in another planet. And I'm a shy guy who doesn't speak Portuguese and avoids talking to people unless necessary and was very cautious, but always went with my instincts and never had any bad experiences. And no one ever asked me for money or to buy them anything. (And i'm not white, European or American i'm 100% black African, so that did not give me any unfair 'advantage' as some would assume)

Afrikaans is probably his native language. I've worked with white south Africans with his accent who come to my state for work and that's their default language and learn in their schools etc

As a man now in my early 40's it's taken me a long time to realize money isn't everything and family is the most important thing. Chasing dreams isn't a bad thing by any means but it's worth noting in the end without family to share it with. Funnily enough on the CEFR scale of language learning A1 is lowest. The truth is it isn’t hard and just about anyone can do it, I’m studying my fourth language now and I’m not 20. It’s just that most people naturally don’t believe themselves to be capable of doing it as well.

Hey Kurt, I remember watching your first Peru video during quarantine back at home in Germany when I was 16/17. Then watched the whole Peru series, every other South America vlog, then Egypt, Pakistan… you inspired me to take a gap year and travel after school. I have 6 months of retail work behind me and I’ve now finally made it. I am in Cochabamba, Bolivia, right now, at the start of a 4 month trip! Thank you Kurt for inspiring me

@@Biel.Azevedu give him some time. Brazil is relatively new for him. His progress with Spanish within a year is incredible. Luckily for him, Portuguese is very similar to Spanish in terms of vocab, grammar, etc.
