I think the issue is when people start an Instagram page and convert it to a business. Their followers (friends etc) might not match their target consumers for their business. Also the content they had on their personal page might not align with their business's brand.

@@melissahenderson4722 yea, so I see people do this all the time. It's great because you save time with having 1 account, and already have a following. When you're a solopeneur your business is your life, so making it more personal like Erin said helps.

@@ThatGirlMoi Yea, you can conduct an audit and use one account,, also as you create more new content, most folks aren't scrolling past a certain amount. Everyone and all businesses go through rebrands. Im already planning to rebrand my youtube page probably at the end of the year.

10 salient points. Don't miss any of them! Simple breakdown: Rule of Thumb by Erin: "A business b rand should feel personal, and a personal brand can include business". ... Personal Brands 1. Tell a story and have a mission attached to it from your bio to very authentic, real content. No editing overkill. 1:45 2. Show who you are & your interests, even if you have multiple, e.g. starting with your top 3 attributes. 3:20 3. Be understandable to someone who doesn't know you with structure and repetition (follows point 3). 4:15 4. Be engaging e.g. with calls to action, swipe-overs, saves etc. 5:25 5. Add value where you see fit; aiming to correspond with your mission, or even tagging where you got the products in your pic. 5:45 6. Look relatively polished; not necessarily "professional" NOR super aesthetic. 6:55 ... Business Brands 7. Mix personable and curated(business/brand/professional) content. 12:15 8. Understand your audience's needs and speak to them quickly using your bio 13:10 9. Look organic but polished with content that's easy on the eyes 13:26 10. Have calls to action 13:37 ... My lessons: 1) A page should be dedicated to something. 2) What makes a personal page is the strong, undeniable presence of PERSONALITY; not giving up privacy. Big one for private or introverted people. 3) AIM to upload relatively frequently. You can start small and get comfortable doing more with time. THANKS ERIN!!! Looking pretty as always!😍

"a business brand should appear personal, and a personal brand can include business..." I definitely think this is helpful. I've seen a lot of people make their personal page into their business page (which honestly confuses me because I'd never remember following that page). That ends up being kind of irritating and can cause more bad than good IMO

I don't like to have people I don't know on my personal page. I'm very picky with who I let in my personal space.

Me too! Girl, I'm so picky that I even choose who in my personal life, to tell that I have a business. lol So, I keep my personal and business accounts separate.

Omg!! This help me a lot to understand real insta branding, thanks a lot now time to work, I have a question hope you don't mind, I have an account with already 10k but I want a fresh start on my image, should I create a new account or erase all post and start fresh ('cause I can kinda do a "the new image, soon" campaign)

Naah! I think that if your brand is big enough or you hope to scale, it should be separate: 1. If you have or plan to have a team managing this area of your business, you don't necessarily want your team to have access to even your more personal messages, etc. 2. If your business name has nothing to do with your name, you might lose out on persons just remembering the name of your company and looking for a page in that name. It might also cause confusion, especially for older folks, even if you have links and hashtags with your business name, leading to a personal account. In my experience, a confused or distracted person, likely won't buy or even inquire. 3. I have read that one's posts only reach a relatively small segment of your audience. Your friends and family might not match your business' target audience and your stuff just might reach them, since you might interact with them frequently. I wouldn't want to have all my posts and especially my paid ads, going to them and not my real audience, just because algorithms pick up that they're interested in me. I don't think any amount of artificial intelligence is that intelligent to pick up who's friend from who's target audience.

Thank you so much Erin. I manage a page selling kids toys. Our followers are more of buyers than engaging audiences. I've curated contents I think should drive engagement but they don't engage, yet these contents from insights get to a lot of people. How do I handle increasing engagement. That's my problem.
