I would like to share a helpful hint I learned years ago from a friend. Some horses really hate banding and braiding and will do their best to try and rub them out. After you are finished before putting on a sleezy, lightly spray the mane at the base, with rubbing alcohol mixed with equals parts of water. My horse calmed right down. I have used this on many with no problems. *** Becareful not to get it in their eyes *** Thanks for the video, I always enjoy seeing how others braid and band.

There are faster and easier ways but NONE of them look near as good and nice, neat, small, sewn in braids. Great job Stacy. We appreciate you sharing.

I found this video very helpful. I have never braided before and I think I will try now. I think watching it again will be very useful too. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

I really like your trick to hide the bottom little stray strands! In a chewed up, rubbed, or uneven mane those pesky hairs can be really messy looking, so tying them all into the yarn knot is really a GREAT idea. Thanks for this video!

I thought the video was very helpful! With just about anything everyone has their own way of doing it. She was clear in her words, and showed each step over again. I band a lot and always see each person doing it their own way. As far as cutting the mane on each braid, I would rather have the end tucked, not cut. But I guess that depends on how the mane is when the process is started. This video gave a good idea of the braiding process for the beginners to learn on. Good job!

Ya'll are a little harsh. I thought it was a great video. I've been braiding my own horses for a year or so and always have a problem with some of the braids getting crooked by the next morning. The way she ties hers off seems more secure than how I learned, so I'm going to try it and I think it'll help keep mine straighter. This is not how the hunter jumpers do braids, but it's common for AQHA people to cut the manes, so there's nothing wrong with this, it's just different than hunters!

This was so much help! I apparently have a natural ability to handle hair, so I've been trying to figure out how to do these kinds of braids. I needed the info on the smallest things, like how to tie it, or how the yarn is put in to the braid. Thanks a Million. All the other videos weren't as detailed, and you couldn't even see the braid!

Just a side note: Hair spray and gel, while they do work, can cause rubbing if you braid over night. I've found that some horses get itchy from it. I've found quick braid to be the best/none drying method, or just plain water.

Hi Lope...I personally take them out using a crochet/yarn cutter. They come in various sizes. Grab the yarn in the braid, and slice....real easy. Its like they were made for that purpose :) Hope that helps

i used bobby pins this summer for a difficult mane where my horse had rubbed some of her mane off, i had to do a running braid instead, but the bobby pins and hair spray were so helpful!

Horses put up with a lot of crap from us humans. All I saw was this lady pushing the horse's head away, but the cross ties didn't allow him to move away much if at all. He/she is a good natured horse that's for sure.

I was good with this until she cut off the tail of the braid that short. If you do that every week you'll end up with shorter and shorter manes to braid AND the owner/trainer will be seriously pissed off! Must be a QH thing but for Hunters, Jumpers, and Dressage horses that is a serious crime! Yes, it the mane is too long you should shorten it first or snip the hair at the bottom of the braid with the scissors pointed up into the hair so you are tapering the end of the hair, not blunt cutting! Always err on the side of caution when shortening or pulling- you can't put it back! If you pull the knot up in to the base of the braid with the tail to the left the excess hair will fold alongside the braid and when you tie the yarn around the braid you can catch the tail in the yarn and hide it around the back of the braid. Tying the tails in behind helps secure the braid to the neck and keeps the end of the braid from popping up through the top of the braid. That is especially important for QH and other breed shows where the horses are left braided for the duration of the 4-5 day show.

Sorry this is eight whole years after your comment!! Braids with yarn are removed with a seam ripper. It’s a scary name for a little tool that looks like a tiny envelope opener. It has a small sharp blade protected by C shaped metal. (You can Google it!!) You take that tool, carefully and patiently cut downward with it only cutting the yarn, until it is loosened enough to remove the yarn. The main thing is to never cut any of the mane! I hope this reply reaches you all these years later! 😃

I wouldn't want someone to be hacking off the tails of the braids, that only leaves an uneven mane after your show and its much shorter. The tails won't fall out if you tuck them in properly

if she is such a professional shouldn't she know not to sling her arms around her horse I saw her horse flinch a few times. And you could use 1 egg for the whole mane you get good grip and a lot of the professionals use it. And personally I don't think she knows what she is doing. its really easy to call yourself a professional and you are not.

“I saw her horse flinch a few times,” bro, any horse is gonna move. Horses should be comfortable with anything, including arms slinging around, and if they aren’t, you don’t have a broke horse.

Joe Million it's probably not even her horse, at all aqha shows people get paid to braid a lot of horses. It's obvious she knows what she's doing so stop being an internet trainer.
