I owned the carbon Icon my first compound. I had just recovered from right arm reconstruction surgery. Pulled 70 pounds on comfort and it was so smooth and easy. Even though it is a carbon polymer riser it is light and strong, that bow killed my first elk, and was sold to my father in law who has had multiple shoulder surgeries. He recently killed his first elk with that same bow. It is really an underdeveloped and underrated platform. It had been in the field on many rough hunts with zero issues with the riser, had a limb crack after five years which was a surprise, but bowtech replaced them all under warranty no issues!!!! Doesn’t get any better for anyone buying a good all around budget bow! Love your content!

My wife picked one of these, we spent the day in the bow shop and she shot several different bows and this is just what she shot best. I think being so lightweight helps some like my wife hold the bow more comfortably.

I'm looming at this same bow at my local shop. Comes ready to go can do anything and everything to it you want. Um my first year was last year and started with a crossbow witch my son is getting and I'm going to be going back in 2 weeks to shoot this bow and I really hope I like the way it feels

I had the predecessor of this bow, the Carbon Knight in 70lb. For a mid entry priced product it was solid and killed a lot of animals for me. Definitely a very good option in its price point for any bowhunter.

Carbon Knight, then Carbon Icon/Rose, and now the Carbon Zion. You can throw Diamond versions of this bow into the mix as well which are the Deploy and Knockout.

I have been into archery for 25 years. My current bow is the Carbon Icon which is the Gen 2 version of this bow. The Carbon Knight was gen 1. I don't feel this is a lesser bow in any way. The thing flat out shoots, has speed, is easy to carry for miles while hunting, and won't break the bank. It is a tremendous platform that is great for all archers. The only thing I don't like on mine is the grip which as been fixed with the new versions.

The Carbon Zion bare sells for $799 US and the package ready to hunt goes for $850 to $899. I have owned the Diamond Deploy SB and the Icon. The Deploy was easier to shoot than the Icon with a smoother draw cycle. The Zion seems to be a shooter and the draw cycle on the comfort setting is pretty nice. I shot the Deploy better than a lot of high dollar bows I have owned, which ultimately is what mattered the most. At 28.5" draw 70lbs with about a 375 grain arrow it clocked 326fps on the chrono at the shop I frequent, which I found very impressive.

It’s actually a carbon infused polymer riser. There is very little actual carbon in the bow. It is primarily a polymer riser. Hence the weight and price point. This is also the same riser used on the Diamond Deploy. This bow is primarily sold as a bare bow in the US and not the kit. This is the reason for no D-loop. The kit is simply tossed into the box with bare bow that is pulled off the assembly line. Here in the US, for the most part, kit bows are never sold by pro shops in the box to the customer. They are always set up just as a bare bow. MSRP stands for “Manufacturers’ Suggested Retail Price”, this is different from MAP, which is “Minimum Advertised Price”. A dealer can sell the bows for whatever price they want, but they cannot advertise lower than MAP. MSRP is the suggested price in order to guarantee a specific profit margin.

No we don't pay retail in the USA. We typically consider it overpaying if you pay MSRP. Remember MSRP is just the manufacturer suggested retail price. Big word being suggested.

The Mathews grip comment had me dying laughing! I’ve owned/shot multiple Mathews and their grips are horrible, or as you Aussies say RUBBISH. It’s one of the reasons I traded my V3X for a Ventum Pro. I’ve owned multiple Hoyts also and their grips are always phenomenal.

I guess my question is do you really need a D loop? I've been out of archery for 7 years due to a injury. I just ordered a new bow, the last one I bought was a PSE over 30 years ago and never had a D loop. Hooked the release to the string directly. I'm sure these bows are way different and I'm way out of touch

I'm hung up between the Zion and the Diamond Deploy for hunting. From what I understand, same riser. Same weight. Same speeds. Whats the real difference? BTW.. I haven't seen what the letoff is on either one. 🤔

What I struggle with. Why buy this over a carbon Icon or older second hand carbon bow that was flagship. The only issue I can see with pre-2017ish compounds is the module hell. Like I get there’s advantages but something like a bowtech solution or elite Rezult has all this customization you’d previously spend hundreds of dollars on. It makes high end equipment more accessible. It also means in a years time there’s going to be a flood of great bows with more ease of customization than has ever existed for the same price as this bow new not second hand but leftover stock. Hopefully in a few more years they’ll have cam shimming without a bow press, easy cable rod adjustment, modular draw lengths, adjustable let off, string/limb stops and module draw weights like the Mathew’s V3. So basically without buying a new bow you can change draw lengths, left off, stop type, cable rod, and cam lean all without a bow press. Then for the price of a module change draw weight range. So you can fit a lighter module for practice or competition snd a heavier one for hunting again all without a bow press. This would be the perfect bow. It’s a toss up on who packs all these features into a bow. But mark my words it’s gonna happen. Especially as online sales take a larger portion of the market the customer needs to be able to make that bow work for them without a press. Your really going to be able to dial in this bow yourself or as a shop owner when your customer says “this valley is too long and the wall too stiff” and you say no problem and set it up in the shop exactly how they want it to feel in minutes. Don’t have that cool smoke grey in 60lb? No problem for 150 bucks extra you can have a 60 and a 70 lb bow! To me this is the future of compound bows - the difference will be mainly in riser height and materials; grip and cam shape which will vary by manufacturer. It maybe these bows aren’t pushing that 350 FPS but who cares if you can literally dial every bow into the customer.

This is so true. In fact the retailer JcPenny tried to do truth in pricing thinking customers would appreciate it but sales absolutely tanked! We Americans like to think we are shopping for a “deal” or are getting a “discount” even if the discount is built into the existing margin as a marketing expense :p What I struggle with. Why buy this over a carbon Icon or older second hand carbon bow that was flagship. The only issue I can see with pre-2017ish compounds is the module hell. As if a person would just dry firing it over and over and it was just the peep that came off 🤯 like do people not research things AT ALL before going into it? what type of bow was it?
