Congratulations COTY Great video. One of my favorite secrets of bowling. Keep up the great work
Hey coach, congratulations on this award! Your channel is my favourite coaching cannel in KZread, you explain everything with such ease, in a very graphic way, yet so scientifically supported and with so much encouragement that makes new bowlers like myself to really try and bowl with lots of passion and dedication. No surprise on how many awards will keep coming your way! Thanks a lot, and enjoy!!!

Much congratulations to ya, Coach Art! Keep hitting the pocket with your Junior Program! And, you are absolutely the FIRST person I have ever heard present the stats on the "other pocket." Very cool!

Love to see your reaction coach!!! Congrats and well deserved!!! I will always be grateful for all the material you place in youtube as my game has improved tremendously thanks to your coaching tips and advice (I try to stay behind the ball in every shot!).
You’ve changed my game in three videos! Thank you so much!! Keep it going your the man
I absolutely love the Art of Bowling video series. I've been struggling this year and have learned a lot. I'm also considering switching down to 15 lbs. Hard to keep my speed up with 16lbs, and nobody seems to put any oil out this year.
congratulations! thanks for sharing your expertise with all of us!
Congratulations Art, coach of the year that’s amazing well done sir.
Congrats sir u do deserve it! I have been watching u for two years and I get the most from what you teach thanks
Congratulations Coach! If someone asks why, I clearly say: "first at all, a Coach is a human being, period". Then, I would say: "tell me who teaches with a smile on his face and jokes". Passion is a quality that not everyone demonstrates and you teach bowling passionately, so this is the result, to have happy kids and an awarded happy coach. I hope someday meet you at the lanes to obtain your knowledge and improve my game with a couple of jokes too. En hora buena, felicidades y saludos cordiales desde México.
Congrats on your latest achievement award proud of you and your youth
Congratulations on Coach of the year! You are on my short list of KZread channels for bowling improvement. I've found bowling to be such a mental sport, keeping yourself positive and taking strikes as they come, be it on the 17 1/2 board or elsewhere.. targeting is key.. I used to bowl against a man who hated when anyone threw Brooklyn and I could do that on purpose, leaving me makeable spares or (lucky) strikes. It would mess with his head while I stayed positive and having fun with my game..
This is good Art. I like light pocket hits.

congratulations! And great video. Now I just need good enough eye sight to even see what board it’s hitting on.
Thanks for this tip. I'll have to remember it if I ever face the issue of not being able to hit the pocket despite doing everything else right (which excludes times when I miss the pocket cos I missed my target arrow/board). BTW, I don't know if I've ever had a strike when hitting the 15th and a half board, but I have had two strikes where I completely missed the head pin (not by design). On both occasions, there was enough pin action that resulted in pin 4 knocking over pin 2, which took out pin 1.
Best video ever. Ty

Thought Art was gonna talk about the "Backdoor" strike, where you miss wide and crumble the 1-2-4 lol. Happens to me at least once per set. I don't have enough rotation to carry the 15.5 board pocket. I'll either leave a weaksauce 10 or even worse, a 10 with the 5 next to it. Once night I left a 5-7-10 by hitting the 15.5 pocket...after having the front 8. As a speed dominant low rotation player, it's the 17.5 board pocket or bust. And congrats on the award, Art.
Congratulations
Thank you so much foe your advice i would have never. Knew to do that without watching this video so when i go to league on wend amd if im leaving ten's i will try this. But does this work for ome hand two finger bowlers as well

Works for zll bowlers
I noticed sometimes at our house hitting high is okay as long as it is hard. I say any way they will go as long as you are on the correct side of the head pin. People might say it was light or you got lucky if you hit them high but if you can take out the ten pin an not leave nasty a split even if you do not strike at least most of the time it is a easy single pin left over and not the ten.
What are the boards to be targeting for left hand bowlers?
Starting my first bowling league I believe I need lessons

It is when you have no way to the pocket if you aren't getting there you move a little left to get there and fo through the nose. A frustrating situation thatleaves you perplexed
Just curious, what state and bowling center are you from?

Are you talking 17.5 at the pocket? How can you count boards that far away? Did I miss a major point?
@ArtOfBowling
Жыл бұрын
yes you can especially if you have specto in your bowling center as we do a t mine....watching the ball go through the pin deck is the best way to tell if the ball splits the 8 and 9 pin you got deep enough in the pocket if the ball goes out over the nine 40% of the time you are going to leave a 10 pin
What about the other other pocket? Brooklyn!!!!!

If the bowler doesn't have enough control of the ball to hit the 17 1/2 board, what makes you think they have enough control to hit the 15 1/2 board? Also 17 1/2 board is not the optimal "pocket". In the USBC study which produced the graphics you have in this video, they found the optimal "pocket" was a 2.5" offset. Notice they don't assign that to a specific board because it varies due to entry angle. Someone at USBC did make the graphic, but labeling the x-axis with board numbers is in conflict with the rest of the study. As for how could they have incorrectly come up with 17 1/2.... if the head pin is on the 20 board, and you subtract 2.5, you get 17.5. However the headpin is centered on the 20, which would more accurately be called the 19.5 board. That puts the "pocket" on the edge between the 16 and 17 board. Then when you consider the entry angle, the "pocket" ends up somewhere between the 16.5 and 17.0 board based on entry angle. Personally i shoot for approx 16.6 board because that gives the optimal location to carry the 7 pin, while i produce enough entry angle to also carry the 10 pin. If the bowler cannot create enough entry angle, they must compromise leaving the 4 by hitting too high vs leaving the 10 by hitting without enough entry angle. That is a better option than going for the "hit them thin and watch them spin" area and rely on luck.
