When you're making adjustments it's important to make sure that your adjusting off a good shot. Don't make a move after a shot where your footwork or release weren't quite right or if you hit your mark at slightly the wrong angle.

I make adjustments usually when either ball starts hooking through the nose. Or sometimes when I leave a ringing ten pin. It’s usually an easy for for me. Sometimes both lanes I bowl on in league play different. I adjust accordingly depending on who I am against and the lines they play. I’ve been doing this for years.

Another good one, Coach! I believe Walter Ray is a notorious note taker also, and he seems to have done pretty good with it!

Parker Bohn isn't the only pro that charts his shots and keeps notes on the lanes. If you've ever been at one of the qualifying rounds at a tour stop you will notice that most players have someone with them, even a friend or their spouse that charts every shot for them.

Great video. I can never really know what to do in many situations and often just go with my gut. I was leaving a lot of ringing 10’s and my coach kept telling me to move laterally or back. It didn’t work so I moved forward six inches and it solved it! Other times it doesn’t work. All I’ve learned is if the pins are talking to you early, listen and make a change. And if that doesn’t work make another and if that doesn’t work get a beer and start over again.

@@TenthFrameStrike yeah I’ve done that but there times it just doesn’t work, and bizarrely a move forward does the trick. Don’t know why but if I am able to decide between the lateral move with a backwards move and a forward move as soon as I see a ringing pin I’m able to get it fixed in two frames

One center uses very little oil. I only bring my plastic ball to this center lol, even got a 215 with my plastic ball lol. On my league at the same center 2 of my teammates use urethane.

When you leave a flat 10 in league, do you make that move instantly on next shot? Or wait until you get back to that same lane?

I have a few fellow bowlers that have the average speed between 18 to 25 and is very consistent on there marks and has high scores of 220 to 285 at that speed it looks like lane conditions don't bother them , just an opinion 😉

25mph!!! That's WILD... I'm usually around 15 to 16 and I get all giddy when I get it up to 17mph.

Having a hard time in the transition on a wet/dry condition. How would you attack that? I usually try and go to a strong asymmetric solid and try to get it to use up its energy and smooth out the back end

That seems counter intuitive to me but heck I’m not a seasoned enough bowler to give advise. You would think in theory that you would want to ball down or even loft it further to avoid the drying up heads and delay the hook. You know, the skid flip thang. But then again I’ve been surprised on burnt up lanes occasionally I’ve transitioned to a more aggressive ball playing real tight in and it’s done well despite the lack of angle and smaller room for error. I have to increase the ball speed significantly but it works....sometimes. And that’s the frustrating thing. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense.

@@TheGreatConstantini Pearls are too responsive off the dry in a wet/dry situation. The solid asyms use up energy early and blend it out. this is not a normal dry lane situation which is when i usually go to a pearl

Yeah, I’m assuming when you are taking wet/dry you are talking an over/under condition. And at those times I can’t do anything except grab a beer and play ridiculously inside with a go to roto grip and lots of speed. I’ve also had this situation when I have more lefties (I’m a lefty) my other team members two of which are back up bowlers and end up in my track and invariably someone on the other team throwing urethane on my side. The lane become an unpredictable blotchy mess. That’s when I increase to two beers

Try playing 1 or the other ilook to go strighter in those situations. 6 to 7 boards of movement accuracy over hook. More end over end roll. It will decrease you strike percentage but leaving makeables over wash outs or 2 8 10's is better in my book

I know this is out of a Topic but does Tournaments are allowed to play on split lane alleys or a Bowling Center that had the Odd Lane as the Last Lane ? For example for a Split Lane Alley, SM Bowling Center in SM Megamall has 14 Lanes and Lanes 5 & 6 had a Square Wall between these 2 Lanes (for ceiling structure reason), also those 2 Lanes has their own individual Ball Return (Lanes 5 and 6 doesn’t share or connected to One Ball Return but had their individual), so is it possible to bowl on these 2 Lanes ?. For a Bowling Center that has the Odd Lane as the Last Lane, Paeng’s Midtown Bowl has 39 Lanes and does Lane 39 can be allowed to bowl on during a tournament ?i

Some people don't want to get involved with all aspects of the game. Gold coaches have to be knowledgeable with bowling center management as well as ball drilling and a ton of other stuff. Some people just like to coach:-)

Very Impressive but I don't think I could ever get that serious that I would take notes on everything on every lane that I observe or bowl on. Not that it doesn't make you better but for me it is way too much work.

It does take effort to put pen to paper for every shot. Setting up a video camcorder behind you can also help a ton. These are just different ways to help us observe our game when we are away from the lanes. Thanks for the Comment!

Most people don't move enough when it comes to adjusting to the bowling lane. How many times have you thrown a 3 bagger and on your next shot it hooks through the nose? So you lick your wounds, and the very next shot you make a micro adjustments and throw the ball perfect off your hand and bang it worse right through the nose again? Make bold adjustments like 4 and 2 , 3 and 1 or 5 and 3 because by moving an inch or two on the approach is moving the bowling ball an inch or two on the back end. Once the ball goes through the nose, it's best on you next shot is to try to get a light shaker. At least you'll leave yourself an opportunity to convert a spare rather dealing with a game wrecking split. Also by making bold moves you learn how to play where other people are not. Therefore you can get a few more strikes before someone trashes your line,

This is why it is important to have a strong physical game. Laying down the ball in the sport of bowling demands consistency. Hitting light: move right. Hitting strong: move left. Flat 10: move back Ring 10: move forward Go for your best. Make the adjustments for success in bowling 🎳.
