Glad to see Paul Fromguitarworld back in the videos.
I love this channel. Paul is awesome in explaining thing in a way easily understood. The guitar he's using is a wet dream. Those narrowfield pickups are amazing. PRS has got it going. I have been a sub to GW for eight years (including the magazine before KZread) and it has always been a treat when the new issue arrived in the mailbox. I have all the issues with Dimbag's monthly column which I still go back and re-read. Love it!
Nice review, dude!
finally useful pedals. Thanks Paul.
Combined with that G and D chord, the Combo Drive has a Journey/Neal Schon flavor... I like it.
I'm glad you mentioned the Ac30 in the review, some people were afraid to say this in other reviews... to my ears, it does sorta sound like it but it's still missing something.
The BC-2 is a great pedal. I pulled a used one cheap and it makes the amp bloom. It's also Brian May in a box! I have 60 Boss compacts now!

Does it work on a small amp I’m thinking of getting one

It does. Boss pedals are good at that!
it can still be important to see how a certain gauge of strings sounds with these pedals, with thicker or thinner strings your tone will change, its a nice PRS he's playing too
Sounds like you can get some pretty awesome 80's style of tones from these
Geez, I actually like both of these pedals. Nice demo, I may have to go out and make me a purchase or two. Thanks. Oh yeah, that guitar is pretty freaking sick, too:)
i like that feedback option, very nice
Love this pedal
looking forward to the keeley mod of the combo drive!
I gave up on Boss pedals a while ago but I have to admit, that Combo Drive sounds really nice. The 2 pedals really complement each other too.
Every overdrive/distortion I every used gave me instant feedback! Turn the guitar and amp up and boom!
I personally liked this review, he took time to really explain what the pedals did before playing, stop hating… awesome pedals by the way!
Now i'm waiting for my new pedal FB2!
Best sounding Boss I've Had. It has it's own voice.
I like the Boss BC-2 but for me it lacks a little bottom end so I use it with a Lovepedal OD11. I bought this new for $40 and that considered I love it. Very good all around pedal. I use it through a clean tube amp.
I just bought the boss fb-2..... its a heck loads of fun XD
great sound
The amp is likely to be a Blackstar HT Club 40, as mentioned on the site of guitar world in an artical about the top 5 amplifiers of 2011. Indeed it could be mentioned more but I'm pretty satisfied with the reviews as they are, still.
I have come to understand that some people just can't help themselves from bitching. Give the guy a break! He's trying to explain how the friggin thing works! To fully explain two new pedals in under four minutes is a good job as far as I am concerned. If he only talked for 2 minutes, people would bitch he didn't give a long enough explanation. Who cares what amp he's using. Explaining the amp setting would've made him talk even longer! This is not just a demo, it's also a review. Get with it.
@Tibbon THANK YOU! Hopefully GW will get wise one of these days....
@Roct9 its a PRS (Paul Reed Smith) NE3
I tend to like Boss stuff. not overpriced, durable and always gets the job done.
I bought my DS-2 Turbo Distortion in 1994.... Still working.
Both sounded good on certain settings and think it's supposed to be booster before the gain so now they are in the wrong order to work properly.
I have one of these pedals and it just simply doesn't work that well, when you let off the pedal it just doesn't drop the feed back it kind of fades away...
That pedal does kinda sound like a AC30 with less brown and a little more fizz. It would be nice to hear the booster pushing the front end of a real tube amp. Nice one
7:25 - adam jones creates these sounds. boss did a good job emulating adam jones' raw talent for tonal manipulation.
@rafabcarvalho Its based off a Vox AC30, the amp brian used, so yes.
does the pedal clean up if you turn the volume on the guitar down? or does it just get quieter?
@elStinKINGS PGS seems to rarely do Boss pedals. They like to focus on the more exotic and boutique stuff.
@jasonfifi Yeah probably in this case when there is the feedback thing. But don't you normally put the booster in fornt of the amp (in this case the combo driver) and not after it in the effects loop. I don't know but maybe for the feedback to work properly it has to be after the distortion.
Is this any good for brian may kinda tones? Really nice sounds Paul!
@ConnorGilks Thanks! I don't have too much experience with these amps actually. I think I plugged into one once at Guitar Center, but wasn't overly impressed and moved on.
Doesn't sound like an AC30? Check out Pete Thorn's demo of it...
@Poncianoedubiges i agree, i'm not really in a rush when i listen to an effects pedal review lol
Que marca y modelo es tu guitarra, gracias antemano
hi im an amateur ( still learning acoustic, havent yet moved to electric yet) umm do u know if i would need these little pedals if i just get a big multi effect pedal??? cuz sometimes i dont wanna bring so many things i just wanna bring one item that has all the , does the boss GT 10 have all these little pedals' effects???
I like the boss st2 power stack for the plexi tone lol the combo drive sound way better in other vids
@cola4369 I know mate! But is it really acurate? Because the AC30 used by may is the one with the top boost, ain't it? And the voicing as well may affect. But it seems good!
Hi Paul, why do you place the FB-2 after the BC-2? Isn't it usual to place a booster before the overdriven amp or pedal? I would have heard it the other way. Nice review anyway!

As he said, he just wants a volume boost, and he's trying to demonstrate that it keeps the integrity of your sound. But yeah, if you want a gain boost, shove it in front of the drive
Xotic ac booster or the Boss FB-2??
@Tibbon I met Paul last year at NAMM and he was doing demos for the Dunlop booth.... might be a coincedence there (bit of ad revenue for Paul if you catch my drift)
@Tibbon Strings can make a HUGE sound difference, Mr. Sound Guy.
@sixstringfretter While you can find out every function of the pedals he's demoing (manuals are on the internet), unless he tells you what amp he's using, you'll never know. And the amp has a huge influence (e.g. will I get that sound with a Fenderish amp or a Marshall-type amp? Will I get that distortion easily at low levels or do I need a low watt amp? etc.).
@Tibbon Perhaps they have a Dunlop endorsement.
could the bc-2 do any ds-1 sounds?
the musical world is rad!
@SevrenSavage To be fair, I don't think there's much luck about it, since it isn't a very limited model. You just need they money and its yours :)
@summitthescale Kinda, not really. I'd say the amp and guitar you're using matter more. I switched brands on my '59 Jazzmaster recently and I can't really tell the difference. I can tell the difference when I plug in a Tele instead though. If you don't see that the Dunlop thing is clearly a plug for the brand, I'm kinda shocked.
@ladicius Are you saying that Adam Jones invented Feedback? That is woefully inaccurate.
so does the feedbacker act like a sustainer?
you would totally think so! seeing as the pickups play a huge role in the amount of gain that can be established. as well as the gritty sound. but maybe thicker strings vibrate less then thinner gauged string? potentially allowing for a higher sound? just aiming here lol
THAT GUITAR IS AWESOME THATS THE ONE STRUCKED ME!
@realbluemeanie Probably, or its part of Dunlop's ad buy. Dunlop makes great products for sure, but I wish Guitar World was more transparent about all of it.
@Tibbon Bet you it is a blackstar amp
Gotta say for some cheapo BOSS pedals you can get some really thick gnarly tone out of these two pedals, and I only came here to hear the Combo Drive pedal.
Methinks Imma have to learn that lick he plays @ 6:43
Well... I'm looking for a good enough pedal that can instantly get me guitar feedback!
The feedback booster wasn't bad though.
@metalwillofficial Boss is iconic - there's no doubt about that - but I do agree with the tone-sucking comment. I've had a few Boss pedals in my bass rig and they weren't the best-sounding pedals.
Don't stompboxes belong on the floor? Might have made for a better demo...
great video .. just one question is this BC2 an OVERDRIVE or a DISTO pedal?? I'll appreciate someone reply me ..t-you =)

Overdrive
boss is boss...nuff said
@Tibbon Advertisment...
@bleechedbones does it matter?
@metalvocalistwanted Gear of all sorts breaks, including (rarely) Boss pedals. Really, there are *very* few brands of pedals that are prone to breaking. Most arrive DoA if they are ever going to break, and then its a simple return to get a new one.
@primusdude87 i'm not quite sure how you deducted that i somehow believe adam jones created feedback. you are incorrect - adam jones is good at manipulating his tones through the use of feedback. he is a good example of how feedback can be used in guitar playing, my favorite, in fact. and no one invented feedback, but someone obviously discovered it. the argument then becomes 'who is best' which is a matter of opinion and is a pointless discussion.
@JSpears90 But strings brand and gauge matter? As did a 45 second rave about how many Boss pedals he owns and how much he loves them? I've done a ton of pedal demonstrations, and yes the amp matters. If I played through a Two Rock, AC-30, Dual Rectifier or JC-120 would all sound incredibly different. Boss and Dunlop both advertise and thus pay Guitar World thousands per month, which honestly creates a bit of a conflict of interest for demos. No company has ever paid me for a demo placement.
He "Minds the stepchildren" at exactly 1:01
Playing starts @3:54.
Is this pedal really worth the $119 bucks?
@Horsantti Because you feel attracted to him of course.
@nobleblood100 While I agree, you can mod them, and also TB is largely overrated compared to a good buffer. If it sounds good, then it is good. True bypass or not.
I own a boat load of old Boss too, but I no longer buy Boss because of the COSM/modelling digital malarky they now produce. May as well get a rack multi effects processor if you're going to use digital pedals. Now I'm chasing old DOD, Yamaha and other pedals which is a lot more fun than playing through a micro chip. I have a tube amp and why would I want digital distortion???

makes helluva lot of sense to me. i've noticed some newer pedals (not just boss) that boast transparency, feel like shit when the pick hits the strings, doesn't feel natural at all. you can hear the drive but it feels wrong. i want my old ibanez metal screamer back, which btw wasn't a fizzy metal pedal at all, it's actually less gain than the tube screamer, it simply enhanced the gain in my old marshall jmp 100 watt and gave it more punch.
@ConnorGilks Ah yea, breaking it in can help a good bit. Also your own guitar, and not in a room full of wankers (guitar center) helps a lot. I'll give them another go when I can.
4:04 sounds like Angus Young
@szhixson ohhhhh thanks kkkk
@Thorn137666 Mod it yourself. I wouldn't give JHS a dime. There's people out there with far better business ethics than that guy (cloning, misrepresenting what he's selling, etc). Or there's other people out there to do good mods.
i bet the phrase/meme 'like a boss' came from the pedals
combo drive doesnt sound the greatest, but the feedback booster looks interesting.
It is mass produced in Taiwan. No way worth $119 bucks! Go for a used analog overdrive on ebay or a thriftshop! Save money and rock!
So, how much does Dunlop pay?
@TheMrspongebob1111 i'd take xotic ac booster over boss any time.
So you mention the strings you're using (kinda not a huge sound difference), but don't mention the amp you're using at all or the model of the guitar (easier to see). Also, as one demo guy to another, 4 minutes before playing a single sound is a little long.
i'd rather wait for the PGS demo...
ISN'T KNOWING WHAT GUITAR HE'S USING MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE STRINGS? P.S. SORRY ABOUT THE ALL CAPS, DIDN'T REALIZE I WAS USING IT. XP
too bad that BOSS EFFECT don't have a true bypass... They are sounds good though... too bad...
feedback booster sounds horrible but the other one sounds good.
Combo drive sounds pretty fizzy and digital.
@jochiasson See my profile. I have demo'd nearly 100 pedals, and while I don't insult my viewers by explaining to them everything about a pedal that they should understand anyway, people seem to like them.
@vileguile4 Noo im a straight guy.
oh wait guys, it's cool. he uses THIS GUITAR. i'm not familiar with that brand, maybe they're foreign
@Roct9 Are you trolling? 'cause you can't be serious. Either you know nothing about six stringed instruments, or your just can't pay attention. @ 0:42 you will clearly see the headstock, and if you don't recognize the most iconic shape ever, or the large Paul Reed Smith signiture, or the truss rod cover that says NF3, then I am not sure what eles to say. That's why he didn't say it, 'cause it's so obvious.
"Boss is well known for making some of the finest, as well as the most iconic stomp boxes in the industry". No, Paul. Boss is well known for making cheap sounding pedals that suck your tone. They REALLY need to come up with a new bypass system for their pedals.
00:29 boatload? wtf
Who wants to fight
