What a brave man Mr Bonhoeffer was! He went with what his conscience told him to do. .... Incidentally, the thought of myself, sitting in comfort in my own home, right now, to suddenly hearing banging on my door, and a bunch of thugs dressed in menacing attire, bursting in and dragging me away to god knows where, is a very frightening thought. I applaud all of those very gallant people to tried to resist those vile monsters. .... All who actively or by pressure accepted, are called N.zies even if they were not member of the party. To go with the stream is always enough to be seen by history as a bad person. Amen. Almost all pastors stood aside in Canada as millions were marked as lepers and stricken from society in work, leisure, travel, etc., over a virus everyone catches and spreads; an irrational fear of the unclean, as Hitler manifested. Those pastors that shared in our suffering and pain were merely the ones that refused to go along with the tyranny, and faced litigation and imprisonment. Alas, prophesizing, staying on "safe" topics, and filling the church coffers, is all too commonly the path of the modern preacher.

Bonhoeffer was one of the greatest theologians of the 20th century. A truly remarkable man, and Christian martyr.

I am Catholic and believe that Bonhoeffer is one of the most awesome humans of all time. His book, The Cost of Discipleship greatly influenced my Christian convictions. He didn't have to return to Germany from America, but he knew that he was called to do so.

She is not a god. In fact, Catholics were the first Christians because as Jesus told Peter, whose name means rock., "On this rock I build my church". That is why Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter. Look at Christian history. Every other Christian is PROTESTant against the 1st Christian church. I recommend that you read Bonhoeffer's book, "The Cost of Discipleship" He had respect for other religions, even the Jews. I will pray for the both of you that you learn to respect others.

I know Bonhoeffer's story well and revisit some of his writing and thoughts on occasion. This movie was an excellent telling of his story. Thank you to all involved.

i read his book a number of years ago on the cost of discipleship it was life changing. They need it today. He tried to warn the german people on his radio program and they canceled him. Does that sound familiar?

Ulrich Tukur is an outstanding actor both in Rommel and this film. He brings a different face to war times pictures but if you ever notice he character is at peace. It appears he truly enjoyed making this film and portrays the Godly servant he evokes on screen. Much is to learn about duel actor's but praise the Lord he only demonstrated what it to to stand against evil. May God Bless Bonhoeffer and his love of God.

The movie "Come Before Winter" shows Bonhoeffer's dilemma better: how can a man of God participate in the plot to kill a man? Some believe he wanted to die and be martyred to both inspire more people and also pay for what he saw as his biggest sin. After seeing a starving prisoner give his Bread to another man, he taught that evil people can never take away your mind and soul, although they will always try. We must keep our joy and peace in spite of those who hate us because we have such treasures and they never will. If you haven't read "The Cost of Discipleship" you have missed an opportunity to enrich your mind. SALUTE Bonhoeffer!

You may want to read 2 Timothy Chapter 4:7 or the whole chapter 4 itself, the letter of Paul to Timothy “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:”

I am a theologian. I have read a lot of theology. So much says the same thing, just in different format. Few are they who speak what they see as true rather than trying to exalt who they are. Two, who have spoken to my heart, is Watchman Nee, and this guy Bonhoeffer. I am indebted to them. The cost of discipleship, is almost unique in my reading, and mirrors the true gospel that which Jesus taught, yet so few see. 1-Corinthians 2:14

Our Hero in Faith. Dietrich Bonhoeffer is in heaven in the company of the Saints and our Savior Jesus Christ forever, while Hitler is in Hell where the worms don't die and pain and suffering never ends.

Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer's life, struggle and sacrifice is a shining example of the strength of the WORD, he was truly an ultimate disciple of CHRIST. In today's much divided, unequal world, his story again has much hope, if only many more can understand that we are all one body, one soul, one consciousness!!!

@@soeffingwhat That is a good question. I received this from the Lord during prayer time. There are pastors and other believers who have had the same revelation. The judgement of the US will be manifested soon. It will be an invasion. It isn’t far fetched. I recently read an article stating that there is a soft invasion unfolding in our borders. No, not from Latin America , but of military age men from hostile counties such as , Russia, China and the Middle East. These men are alone and some are even in the terrorism watch list. These credible sources are concerned given what happened in October 7. I just know that whatever happens we have to be strong in the Lord. Whether we suffer persecution or we are raptured before these things happen , we have to be ready. Things are progressing quickly.

Oscar Schindler had no known religion, but saved jews. I was raised in a Christian house, as an adult choose not to go to Worship, but i use my hand-crafting skills to make lap afghans, shawls and baby blankets for those less fortunate. I have a friend who is a victim of domestic violence, she has shelter with me as long as needed. When t.Rump talked about ‘putting all the disabled people in a concentration camp like Hitler did with the Jews,” i, as a person with low vision, got support from several NON-CHRISTIAN friends who were willing to do whatever necessary to hide me.

Very cute. Did you learn that from someone? And do you feel better about it? Bonhoeffer was a self-righteous slug who thought that 'crusading for Christ' would accomplish anything. Christianity has killed more people than any other cause throughout history.

The Lord equipped this man and his family in remarkable, miraculous ways to endure what they ALL had to go through. It will also remind you that each of us is born "for such a time as this".

Yes, it is so well written and researched.

His Book " The cost of discipleship" is a great work..He explains the difference between cheap grace & costly grace...Cheap grace says that our sins are forgiven whereas costly grace explains that the our sins are condemned and the sinner is forgiven..

Absolutely stunning film. So powerfully presented. Excellent acting. Credit to the director for showing the feeling of the moment..

Maria Wedemeyer immigrated to America in 1948. She studied mathematics and became a highly respected computer specialist with Honeywell. She married twice, had 2 sons, and died of cancer at the age of 53 in 1977. Correspondence between the two during Bonhoeffer's imprisonment has been published.

Agree! I couldn’t put it down. This book provided my first glimpse into those beautiful German souls who opposed Hitler from the start- a viewpoint completely ignored in my secular education.

@@thegoodpath5008 Yes, my Mom grew up during the war in the free state of Danzig. Her Dad was a math and science high-school teacher, a pacifist (didn't even believe in spanking), but was inscripted into the German army. Died due to heart complications, buried in some mass grave. The remaining family immigrated to Canada in 1947. Sadly, German hostile sentiments, haunted them wherever they went. My youngest aunt, and only remaining member of this family, remembers, as a child her mom (my grandma), saying of Hitler shortly after he got elected, "We are going to have troubles with that man"!!! How prophetic!

Do you believe you are a sinner and there is nothing you can do to save yourself? If yes then pray for grace (God changing our heart) and then repent of your sin and ask God to forgive you because Jesus took your penalty for your sin on the cross and rose again to show you have new life in Him. My prayers go out to you and may God's grace come into your heart!

I've lived in Germany before. I'm glad this film pays homage to the brave Germans who stood up against the absolutism of Adolf Hitler within his shooting distance, and stood fast upon their confession to our blessed faith. I think the world does these Germans a great disservice when they assume every German is guilty of what the Nazis did, because some of these men and women, who faced Hitler's death threats head on were the bravest the world was ever blessed to see.

The Nazi's rise to power split the church in Germany between the state church, which acquiesced to the spirit of the age, and the confessing Church, which held tightly to the Gospel. America is currently living through a similar time in that we are having to chose between cultural orthodoxy or God's revelation in Scripture. I wonder which way we'll turn.

I'm just learning about who Bonhoffer is but I loved the movie. Whether we turn against God or turn to him and and accept the gift of eternal life through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, repenting of our sin and leaving it behind is up to each person. Each soul in their heart must genuinely choose who to follow, Christ or the worlds selfish pride of life. It's better to lose this life and gain salvation than gain the whole world and lose your soul.

Regardless of what anyone does for others they must obey the commands of Jesus if they truly love Jesus and believe his words and therefore a person must believe Jesus and realize we are all sinners and be Baptized in the water as an understanding adult to spiritually wash away all sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. See Acts 2 38. As Jesus says one can not enter the kingdom of heaven unless he is born again of water and of the spirit. See John 3 5. And one must be baptized as an adult. See Acts 8 12. And one s body must be fully immersed or washed in the water in the same manner that Jesus and the disciples etc. were baptized. See Hebrews 10 22. See Matthew 3 16. And Jesus did baptize others also. See John 3 22. May Christ be with you.

Although he Bonhoeffer repented after this, the movie itself shows how quickly a good man can be deceived and his beliefs will change when he gets with people on the wrong side.

This IS real. In fact, as I said in a previous comment, the actor who played Eberhart Bethke is acturally Detrich Bonhoeffer's great nephew
