The film made its international premiere at the 2012 Melbourne International Film Festival. The female lead was meant to be Gena Rowlands but her casting was opposed by the MEAA.
Australian actress Julia Blake, who portrays a Jewish holocaust survivor in this film called Ulah Lippmann, previously co-starred alongside Max von Sydow in the Australian film Father, where Blake played Iya Zetnick, a Lithuanian holocaust survivor woman protagonist whose aim was to expose World War II Nazi war criminal Joseph Mueller, portrayed by Sydow.
The film's screenplay was nominated in 2012 for an Awgie Award by the Australian Writers' Guild (AWG) in the category of Feature Film - Best Original Screenplay for its screenwriters David Pulbrook and Terence Hammond.
The production utilized a studio on Pakington Street in St Kilda, Melbourne in Victoria, Australia where the classic Ozploitation movie Alvin Purple had been filmed almost forty years earlier.
David Pulbrook said of directing his first theatrical feature film: "I loved the experience of directing. If you've got the energy and the will and all your marbles, there's no reason why you can't keep making movies.''
This Australian hostage suspense-drama about the kidnapping of a Jewish holocaust survivor was made and released almost thirty years after the earlier Australian movie Savage Attraction [The Christine Maresch story] which was the true story of a woman whose husband eventually reveals to her that he is an active member of the Nazi party.
The production submitted the film's screenplay to the Islamic Council of Victoria who in turn provided notes and feedback which were incorporated into the movie.
Director and co-writer David Pulbrook and DOP/cinematographer Lee Pulbrook are brothers.
The name of the German song that plays on the record player was "Es führt kein and'rer Weg zur Seligkeit", written by Werner R. Heymann (as Heymann) and Robert Gilbert (as Gilbert) and performed by Sein & Oskar Joost Orchester and Kurt Mühlhardt.

This Mother who had lost her Son to War, had so much ❤ Love, Compassion & Consciousness in her Heart for Humanity , this is a lesson in Life that we all can learn from before it's too late.🙏
Man I rarely cry at movies but this got me bad. I knew the death was coming but it still got me. Great acting from them both and so heartbreakingly realistic. Well done.
This is what we need. Look beyond religion, colour, gender...look into the soul and heart. Each has it's stories to tell.

Two excellent actors, great story one of the best movies I ever watched.
She found a son in a would’ve been terrorist and he was taken away from her despite her effort to save him. Lesson learnt is sometimes we have to give people a second chance and thought. It’s our duty to make people see the good in others
My father is Palestinian. My mother American Indian. I understand how injustice can cause hate. Lets not cause injustice by hating the sons of those that started the injustice; and lets love the sons that have been taught to hate those that want justice.
Religion, politics and racism are killing humanity. Why don't we dump these differences and leave in peace, love and harmony? Good movie

Because human beings are born wicked. We're not basically good. No one has to teach a toddler to lie or take things that don't belong to him or hit someone else to get what he wants. Did you ever read Lord of the Flies? Perfect example of humans without God, left to their own devices.

Never ever did I expect this ending. Compassion, empathy, forgiveness given by this amazing woman who chose Peace instead of fear. If only we could all get along I believe God would give this world more time to exist. How sad that God has given us the Miracle of life and one day we will no longer exist bc so many cannot co-exist. The world and its people cannot get along. What a MIRACLE to be born.

People are they way they are because of their exposure. They refuse to think for themselves, it is all abt them & how they percive things.
Very sensational story and the actors were great. The tension was very high at the beginning until the nevertheless the love of a mother melt away the bitterness from the young man. I didn't expect the Script Writer to end it this way. Very sad I cried 😩

No one studies the Old Testament, You are living proof. Your New Testament is Supposedly based off the Old Testament, But not really. There is a reason Jews don't believe in a Virgin birth, Did you ever ask yourself that question?You read the same book suppossibly
Acting is fabulous with some great cinematography and well written script. Both actors are perfect for this role.
What a great story. Two generations experienced the same tragedies. I cried. I hope this story gets around. Props to the cast and writers.

The son of the lady was killing other terrorists and soldiers, not ordinary people in a mall, that's the difference. But I could't hear properly when the Palestinian explain why his family was killed - someone can help ? Israélien army doesn't "just" kill people for no reason.

Faith, hope, and love --- these three remain, but the GREATEST of these, is LOVE. Love never fails. Beautiful movie with a beautiful message.

Sad ending. I had hoped for a different turn of events. Maybe a change of thinking, the boy would be an activist for awareness of how everyone have gone through a unique or similar suffering and maybe preach love throughout the world. I loved when she said “if mothers ruled the worked there would be more sons”. 😢
The world would be a better place if we just mind our own business and live at peace with everyone.....love is a universal language with no barrier and boundaries....it is a language on its own and which is shown and felt in the depth of our heart and spirit and actions. No matter what we are a human race in dire need of love and compassion every day in our existence here on planet earth. Love the movie as it brought tears to my eyes😭❤️🙏
I did not know what to expect. I was utterly captivated from start to finish. I have no words other than to say one of the most amazing movies. Wonderful acting. This movie should be shown to a wider audience to show how love concurs hate. 10/10 .

The acting is phenomenal! ! The plot is magnificent! The absence of subtitles is inexcusable!
There is something that always lingers in my mind. With Antisemitism, so much hate from Arabs against Jews and the claim the "river to sea" claim, where do people expect Jews to settle? what exactly does the world expect of Jews? Everyone needs a home and where to belong. Jews are people, they need a home of there own and Israel is there home. They deserve to have peace.

The stronghold is Satan's power to control minds & turn them against the Almighty. Since he got thrown out of heaven & has no chance of redemption & since he knows he can never beat God & be the One he seeks to steal, kill, & destroy Gods people. Gosh, what stellar performances, what a gripping film, a real testimony to the talents of all the crew, cast, writers and designers who produced this excellent film that folk should be press ganged into seeing. We are not serving the same God. The God of the Bible gave His only begotten Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world. The 'god' of Islam denies that Jesus is God's only Son and came as the Savior of mankind. Jesus is the only Way, the Truth and the only One that can give us Life and restoration back to God. Islam denies that Jesus is who He says He is, that He died on the cross for our sins and that He rose again on the third day. We can pray to 'god' 24 hours a day, but if we reject Jesus as our Savior then we are deceived and without salvation.

This was a beautiful film. It was amazing how they could each look past race & religion and just see the other person for who they were. He asked her questions that made her think and vice versa which gave them a better sense of each other. The dance at the end was so spontaneous and special. I subconsciously knew he was going to die but I was still shocked when it happened. Great acting by both actors. Thanks for sharing this movie.

You should visit Gaza to see what Israeli love does to children parents houses olive trees After that visit the occupied territories and watch the settlers shouting protected by Israeli police and more
