I know this is an old comment, but the great thing about Bob's wet on wet technique is that it *is* easy. Other forms of painting can be very difficult and require masterful precision. Oftentimes requiring some formal schooling and loads of practice to learn well. Which is absolutely okay and they make beautiful paintings. But the great thing about Bob's style of painting is that it is just very simple. Your mind is left unburdened and free so that your heart can put whatever it is feeling out on that canvas. I like to say now that some painters paint with their mind, (very methodical, sometimes even mathematical in regards to renaissance paintings and the like) but Bob always painted with his heart, and his style makes it easier for anyone, regardless of skill level, to paint what they feel. Because of him people who never thought they could paint made, and are still making absolutely beautiful paintings.

I really miss Bob Ross and my Mother! I have always been creative and expressive in a variety of formats my whole life. I was never very good at traditional oil paint thought. My mother, who was a VERY accomplished artist heard about Bob Ross and introduced me to his technique. I was glued to the television when his shows were being broadcast! They both exuded such love, peace, happiness and gratitude! It was infectious! I was hooked from the very first episode that I saw and I was able to paint pictures that I was proud enough to sign my name to! A lot of people who I hadn't even known liked them so much that they actually bought them and display them to this day. Many of those nice people and I became great friends. I treasure their friendship more than money. I was blessed by Bob and my Mom! They gave me something much better than money! I am forever grateful to them both and I cherish their memories!

The kind of river that makes you want to take a fishing pole, a hook, a bobber, something to eat, and a book. Put the hook and bobber on the line and cast it into the water - let it set there. Open the book and read. When you get a little hungry, have some food and then continue reading... One of those kind of rivers???

Initially I'd have a tough time seeing anything but by the time he'd finish I'd be scratching my head at how quickly he could create such an amazing painting is such a short time.

try it! it's a ton of fun. Canvas boards are great for practice, but they aren't good if you plan on making a full painting. Also, cheap oil sets aren't bad. I got a set from Blick that I really like. It's nothing fancy, but it works really well. Also, get super duper small brushes. Natural hair is better for oils, but synthetic detail brushes work fine. One last thing: You need paint thinner! The special kind from the art store that's odorless. Painting is super relaxing and always helps me on a tough day.
