Its sad that hes gone but i think bob would be happy to know that even many years later so many people find joy in watching him paint (or listening for the asmr lol). Im sure he never thought so many people would be sitting here in the year 2019 falling asleep with their phones laying next to them with his voice still trailing off into the night. well, in Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion, there's a quest involving a missing painter, a canvas of paint, and magic necklace. You must rescue the painter who were trapped inside his own painting world, full of painted mountain trolls.

Ever since I started watching these videos, I see the world so differently... in colors.

I’m 38 years old now and used to watch Bob Ross on Saturday mornings as a child ☺️. I loved 🥰 watching and still do. I feel like he has the ability to take us all to the beautiful places he paints!!!🎨 God Bless you Bob!!!

The usual words/phrases you get to hear from good ol' Bob: "Phthalo", "Like so", "beat the devil out of it", "2-inch brush", "you have to make a decision", "big decision", "son of a gun", "odorless thinner", "clean brush", "just tap it in". "very gently".

It’s often noted that in the majority of Bob’s paintings, there are few signs of human interaction with nature. And if there is, it’s often shown as old or unoccupied: a house with a chimney but no smoke or something similar. It’s interesting that in a winter landscape, he paints a cabin with light….someone’s home. Bob loved the Alaskan wilderness, and this particular painting could be from Alaska very easily. He doesn’t just see that as someone’s home, he sees that as his home in the place he loved.

Between his calming voice, talent, humor and righteous Afro, this man is a Legend. Journey well, Mr. Ross. No one else will do it like you did ❤️

I was born in 1972, I watched his shows too! I felt that same 70’s vibe from him when I watched his shows. I understand what you mean about the left over good feelings, of the 70’s, he brought that into the 80’s with his shows. And the shows started in 1983, and ran for 11 years. But in all that time, that feeling of the 70’s, remained constant. He was not one to modernize a show just to go with the times. He kept it true and real.

Only Bob Ross would tell you to sniff chemicals in a bucket.

It's sad what happened to him at the end. I wondered why I never heard he had died. I loved watching him after school. I was amazed at how fast he could paint. As a teen I laughed at his afro but I know now what a beautiful soul he was. He loved that afro! He wouldn't be Bob without it. 😊 What an amazing artist and man. Everyone loved him and still does.

Sorry about your condition. Interestingly, there is a lady who wrote in Quora about her meeting with Bob Ross years ago and he was the exact same nice and positive guy compared to his video. Just by near his proximity make her anxiety and blood pressure dropped. (She said it herself).

I’ve recently recovered from my addictions and to help me sleep, I listen to his videos. And I’m new to his videos, if I’d known him before I feel I would’ve had alot more peace with myself. He really does speak great wisdom

I use to stop painting,take lunch and watch him on TV. My customers continued watching him after I was done,I even went to a few classes,RIP MY FRIEND

My 8 yr old goes to sleep to your smooth, calming voice every night. I remember all your shows from my childhood. Thank you for everything, Bob. You are still a light in the world, even after you passed.

His voice is just peaceful.

I'm really seriously thinking about getting into painting. I don't know why. I'm not very artistic but gosh darn it Bob makes me feel like I can do it! Not sure my wife will agree for me to purchase what I need to get started though. I wish Bob were still alive to tell me what to do.........

Indigo I hear you but I've heard bob say in early episodes that you can't use cheap brushes and paints. I'd hate to waste the money just for it not to work you know? A month later and I'm still on the fence lol. Thanks for the advice anyway, didn't really think anyone would see my comment. :)

Indigo yea, he uses oil paints. It's called a wet on wet technique. Which is why I would assume acrylic paints wouldn't work well as they would just blend all together making brown colors lol. But I think I will take your advice on the mixed blended brushes. I honestly didn't know they made a mixed blend. One more question I have if you don't mind. The canvas he uses I know it's double primed pre stretched but what material do you think it is? Cotton? Linen? Idk but I've seen different materials used for canvases. Thanks!

Matthew Ward Bob Ross used a very dry paint formulation to make his technique work, but I couldn't justify paying twice the price for his brand. So we learned to let the paint sit on newspaper for half an hour or so to soak up the excess oil prior to putting it on our palettes. Otherwise the paints just run together and you're in agony city.

You can take Bob Ross classes. Check with any community colleges or art supply stores in your area. I used to do BR classes quite frequently 15-20 years ago and I'm trying to get back into it now. BTW, this style is very forgiving and as Bob says, the happy accidents are one of the best things about this technique.

Did the painting work out ?

I always like to see him make something that looks so realistic.. then he goes back and adds more to it, and it ends up just looking better than i ever thought possible, or sometimes he will do something and i will think "oh no it looked better the other way!" but then he just keeps going and he is always right, its rediculous XD

I just love the stories he creates with each painting! “This farmer’s got a big old barn out here. It’s been a tough winter for this barn. The cow was having a bad day and he broke the fence railing.” Pure Gold!! This man was a gift from Heaven, I think if Jesus had a close cousin, it was Bob Ross!

Only Bob Ross could make a painting come alive.

He just comes up with these amazing philosophical quotes all the time.

I loved his black canvases they were just so different and unique than traditional white canvas to I still laugh when he first cleans his brush I cant help it

Just did a week long landscape class at his gallery in florida, I highly recommend it. My puppy had surgery today so I of course have Bob on for him to relax to ❤

I believe he is referring to a time when he got his butt whipped by a "switch" from his momma. All us who grew up in the South have had to "Go get a switch" and gotten our backside whipped. I imagine little Bob running away from his mother through the back yard... hence "getting chased by an angry tree one time".

I've watched a lot of Bob's shows, and this has to be one of my favorites. I love the colors and the way the land falls into place, along with the clouds being the perfect angle and shapes, and the way the moon highlights them perfectly. Just turned out great. I love his black canvass episodes.

I'm thankful that in the whole history of mankind, I existed at the same time as Bob Ross. The man was such a kind and gentle soul. Thank you Bob for all the gifts you have given us, you will never be forgotten. RIP

This is actually my favorite episode. I love at the 12:46 mark when he puts twigs on there. The scratching actually sounds pleasant. And a few minutes later when he puts lights in the cabin and says, "zoop!"

I feel bad for the people who make that happy little accident of disliking this majestic man's video.

Bob Ross is like a stress relieve for me.

This video, like ratio, and comments section, is the most sincere, genuine representation of what a charming, loving man bob really was. May his legacy go on for generations.

I don't think there's anything more relaxing than listening to Bob explain how to create these masterpieces

I have been watching Bob Ross since 1986? Nobody can replace him.. he is the king of ASMR.. ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG LOVE U BOB .. THANK U FOR HELPING ME

I remember watching this guy in the mid 80's while in the military, it was slow at work and we started watching this show. Well, it wasn't long before everybody fell asleep....you know Bob was a retired Airforce guy.

The man was the Leonardo of our era. If you think not, I challenge you to paint so well in so short a time.

...wrong artist to compare him to. da vinci's art was masterful and took _time_. he and his contemporaries are known for spending years on spectacular pieces. you can't put bob ross on da vinci's level. it's so disrespectful. you wouldn't equate picasso and michelangelo, the styles are so different! just so, you can't compare the intricate portraits of leonardo da vinci to the sweet but simple landscapes of bob ross.

da vinci, michelangelo, etc can’t be compared to. they took months and years and worked in an era where artists weren’t that wealthy and didn’t have a lot of special tools or paint thinner. imagine being suspended in the air to paint the 65 foot sistine chapel ceiling alone - furthermore, he created the 'Pieta' statue at 25 and David at 26. absurd comparison

This is one of my favorite paintings of Bob Ross. It is absolutely beautiful and he made it like it was a piece of cake. Such great talent that I wished that I had.

Second video in from the winter cabin painting. Im in awe of wonder how i never heard of this man before. What a legend. Remarkable detail on his paintings for being so vintage!. Rest his soul what remarkable art he does gift from God❤
