The boat that was sinking, was really sinking. We were 5 miles from Elliot Key or so, easily more than halfway across the bay. We had a soft spot in the hull near a roller that we were unaware of. Boat was taken out a week prior with no issues. Bilge worked going out of the channel without a problem, but became clogged by debris in the hull and stopped working. Knew something was up when the bow went up (across the bay) and the throttle never changed. Had to stand in the bow to get on plane 2 times and after the 2nd time getting on plane the captain noticed we were taking on water in the back (bilge was clogged/stopped working). All plugs and bottom plug were in correctly. Ended up turning around, pulling a drain plug and opening the cover for the bilge to check/drain while I bailed water out of the back out the whole way in. Brand new engine wasn’t going down with that boat that’s why we came in so fast with MDCP who did a great job.

Probably caused more damage than was there in the first place, that sucks man hate to see someone in that situation. Hope it’s not as bad as it looked.

If you are escorting a boat taking on water, why take the easy side of the dock. Give the captain, who absolutely has no idea how to con a boat, the tide side dock. Still no excuse to ram the dock at that speed. Especially if you are going to beach it to save it.

When the local police are talking chit about you to your face--you *know* you've achieved something!

You got to do it like you mean it

They must've hit something and started taking on water. The plug was in and they removed it after pulling it out of the water. Two people also got down to look at the bottom of the hull as they were pulling the plug. Looks like they punched a nasty hole in the port side gunwale on the corner of the dock as they were coming in. That was unfortunate. Glad no one got hurt, hope it's not too expensive to repair.

Looks like boat etiquette is different in Miami then San Diego. In San Diego, we get the boat ready and setup before we back into the water and have a pilot on the boat already. Then Reverse that when leaving we dock, get the boat on the trailer then do all the unpacking away from the dock. Plus we have no where near this much stupidity at boat ramp. Trust me there is some serious chit happening, but no where near this magnitude.

That dude was running for his life. Under all that pressure, captain still stuck the landing, like a dart! That was no drain plug, for one he took it out after he got back. My guess, he knocked off a thru hull transducer or a faulty hose connection on a high speed water pick-up or knocked it off completely. I always had a higher volumn bilge pump with alligator clips and 6 to 8' of water hose. Toss it in the bilge, hook up the alligator clips hang the hose overboard and buy some time. If that doesn't work, 55 gal drum of ping pong balls.

I'm thinking that the boat hit something in the starboard stern area. you can see water coming out of the plug hole and look at 30.52 look at the guy in the blue shorts and to he right of the piling you can see the water dropping on the ground. also in 30.29 you can see the deputies looking at the right side of the boat.

Well, "Bust Out Another Thousand" on that "sinking" boat, but it did have a transom plug screwed in so it must have been some other damage that caused its flooding?

If I remember correctly a couple years ago the coast guard had there boat in a slip next to me. We were talking one day and one of the crew members was telling me that those seats in a coast guard boat cost $50.000 each seat

I hit a rebarb that was left in old cement bases from 75 yrs ago and it put a hole in front underneath of my boat and had to blow by a few no wake zones w/ bow up not planned so I wouldnt sink. Made it back took boat off the lift and switched in time. Than had to run her to boat ramp same way.
