Board To Death Ep. 1 - Brendan Ekstrom (Circa Survive) | EarthQuaker Devices

Музыка

We caught up with Circa Survive guitarist Brendan Ekstrom at the legendary Agora Theater in Cleveland, Ohio, where the band celebrated the 10th anniversary of their album "On Letting Go" to nerd out on gear. And nerd out we did.
In the decade since "On Letting Go’s" release, Ekstrom says he’s “been through the ringer” as far as his pedalboard is concerned. He’s tried everything from true bypass loop switchers to AxeFX, and now he’s right back where he started, doing “the classic tap dancing thing.”
All that fancy footwork is paying off, because the band’s atmospheric, delay-laden post-hardcore tunes cut as deep as they did ten years ago.

Same here, I wrote a comment about it just now. I met Anthony when he can in the front of the venue before the show and walked beside him an thanked him for coming etc as he walked to backstage. He was super nice/polite and excited for the show. That was in Dallas at Southside Ballroom. Where did you see the OLG tour? I'm really glad I saw them while I still could. For example I always missed out on seeing Modest Mouse for one reason or another I always couldnt tk when they were here. And a few months ago their drummer Jeremiah Green passed away from health issues. So I'll never get to see them now. I'll try to remember that from now on. Out of all the shows I've been to in my life my two favorites were Circa Survive/Mewithoutyou and Deftones (also in Dallas). Actually now that I think about it I think it was Deftones at Southside Ballroom and Circa Survive was at Gas Monkey...hmm I've been referring to it as the Southside Ballroom Circa show for a long time lol.

This video is what got me into Earthquaker stuff. Brendan and Colin are my favorite guitarists. Everyone in my band uses earthquakes now and I own an entire board of nothing but earthquaker and walrus audio. 😅

Every single interview I watch of Circa, they namedrop a band that I somehow have never heard of. I look them up and sure enough, they're awesome.

I saw Circa and Mewithoutyou on this tour in Dallas and met Anthony before the show when he walked in. It was such a great show from the Circa Survive guys and the Mewithoutyou guys. Both are bands I've been a fan of for a long time. I've played guitar for close to 20 years and drums for about 6 but for some reason I never thought to learn some Circa Survive songs until recently. I also build guitars, pedals an Amps so I love seeing and hearing new effects. I know I've heard of a sex drive before but I can't remember what kind of circuit it's based off of. I'll have to go look it up after this. I think I saw it had a hard or soft clipping switch so my guess would be a modded blues breaker or Timmy type circuit but that's pure speculation since a hard/soft clipping switch is incredibly basic and can be added to 95% of drive pedals lol. Hopefully its something unique though.

Lol I got very strong "Hey Brendan, I work for Earthquaker Devices. I brought this Rainbow Machine. Wanna stick it on your pedal board so we can post a review of it? Just move that pog 2 to the top" vibes from this video.
