But it's your right to deny him the right to express that opinion? An opinion that, mind you, has been expressed in a way for over 100 years... Maybe consider the idea that there might be some truth to what he's saying. And while your at it, imagine this scenario which happened countless times in feudal history: An obedient serf who's had a life of good harvests tells a hardworking peasant who's blaming the state of their hellish life on the region's ruler, "How ungrateful you are for all our lord, and our king, have given us. Sure, your daughters are in the brothel for food and shelter and your sons died in the kings war, but what about his forest our majesty allows you to hunt in?! Be grateful, peasant..." And if you don't think we have the modern equivalent of peasants then you have lived blinded by privelege.

Na man, you can go deeper than capitalism if you want to get to the roots of mental illness. But it always amazes me when people who literally make a great living thriving on the capitalist structure sit there and ignorantly pick it apart and say it’s evil. Sound ignorant af. If I agree with this band on capitalism, I’m going to just steal their music, they don’t deserve to keep the fruits of their labor. Their music should be distributed amongst the world for free. And don’t copyright anything either. Folks, learn the difference between crony capitalism and true free market capitalism.

just because you didn't know what capitalism was doesn't mean it didn't affect you, not knowing about something doesn't put you in a vacuum devoid of the consequences of the given societal system you live in. for millions of years people didn't know what bacteria was but it for sure affected them. he wasn't saying that capitalism is the root of all mental illness, certainly some people are just born with genetic predisposition to it, but capitalism exacerbates it. there's also so many people that are depressed or suffering from anxiety disorders simply because they're overworked, poor, stressed, not sleeping enough, marginalized, etc.; all issues that capitalism is a root cause of or makes worse.

fullmetalfunk socialism, capitalism, communism, etc... etc... mental illness exists in all of those political systems:/// I could easily see how the idea that it tends to fester and grow within a capitalist society is believable, but what is the alternative within which it could improve? capitalism can also be argued to improve mental health by offering an opportunity for advancement. I think the human condition, being a human, is enough of a reason for mental health issues. we are destined to fall and destined to climb. back and forth, to and fro. there's no one cause. 🤔 edited to add ❤️:///

@@kineticblues2766 The solution is to have NO system and let humans live like humans, the way we have been living for hundreds of thousands of years; hunting and living, maintaining and living in nature. @@kineticblues2766 the alternative to capitalism *is* socialism. socialism isn't just an opposite to capitalism, it's not like just the other end of a spectrum, it's a whole paradigm shift. it's a system through which we try to better the experience of the human condition by putting the needs of the working class above all others, thus serving the greatest amount of good and working towards the ultimate end of communism: a stateless, classes, moneyless society, devoid of bigotries and through which all humans work together for the betterment of all. there would still be mental illness in a socialist, and even a communist society, indeed mental illnesses exist in present socialist countries, but the way in which they're treated is generally much better than in capitalist ones, especially in America. and it's not just how they're treated in a medical setting but how the underlying causes and triggers of mental illness are treated broadly in a socialist society as well. things like workload, time off, fulfillment, and community are greatly improved under socialism, which help. i don't think you can say capitalism helps mental illness through offering advancement. some people do indeed advance in a capitalist system but most all people stay where they are, or actually fall down the socio-economic ladder. certainly capitalism is an improvement over feudalism, or mercantilism, but socialism is the next step in human social evolution, and part of that is actually allowing for true advancement of the working class, not through the rise and fall of some invisible free market hand, and the luck of being born in the right place at the right time to the right parents, but through systemic changes in governance and economics that allow the working class ownership over their own labor.

@@kineticblues2766 Ben P sounds like a nazbol/anprim, and most certainly a reactionary, don't listen to them. we need "systems" whether governmental, economic, educational, industrial, etc. in place to build a better world. our ancestors wouldn't have come out of the forests and jungles and down off the mountains and formed communities and systems of governance and economy if it didn't benefit them. reverting back to some romanticized vision of primitive living that didn't actually exist will not help us. there would also be no electricity, internet, medicine, or any other modern amenities that we enjoy without any form of infrastructure like they claim either. that's naive idealism.
