Board to Death Ep. 24 - Broken Social Scene | EarthQuaker Devices
Музыка
Brendan Canning and Andrew Whiteman give us a look at a portion of their effects arsenal while on-stage with Broken Social Scene in this tag-team episode of Board to Death. This band's sound has tons of texture and layering. Combine that very full sound with many members, people jumping from one pedal board to another during the set, and you are bound to have a lot of pedals. The ever elusive EQD Legacy member Monarch makes a rare appearance, as does the tried and true Dispatch Master. These guys have been playing music for a long time and know a thing or three. They prove that it is possible to be tempted by new options, and imperative to just use what works. Warden Optical Compressor, Avalanche Run, and Night Wire hang out on Whiteman's board along with many other familiar stomps, and even a mystery box. Don't worry, he tells you what it is!

It's great to hear the sentiment that the pedal world is pretty frustrating, because it really is - so inundated with amazing pedals, you never know if you got what will work best for you. And kudos to EQD for doing a rig rundown with a band that isn't knee-deep in just EQD pedals, lol.

Yeah it's fascinating and frustrating for sure! I always find it weird how I get something new and some of them are transcendent and others I'm like "where is my ancient, early boss delay that's so easy to dial in?" It's so true that anything can sound amazing, it's more like how you use a tool versus what the tool is itself. Some of us are like deconstruction artists and some of us are construction artists and somewhere in between we do both by breaking up and rebuilding tones/soundscapes/wildernesses.
I really like Andrew Whiteman's demeanor. He doesn't sugar coat anything and seems comfortable in his own skin. I always regarded Brendan and Kevin as the bread and butter of BSS, and perhaps they are still, but Andrew is giving me secret weapon energy. Had to miss them in New Orleans recently cause of work, but I hope to see them again sooner than later. Long live BSS.
Really glad to see this episode, BSS has been a consistently good band since the start and their guitar work is very unique

BSS and Feist in Boston, one of the best shows I have ever seen, hands down. Soooo much energy.
Oh sweet! Thanks guys, great paring BSS & EQD. "Stage right out of sight, stage left your going deaf."
in reality, this could’ve been a 50 minute video considering the sheer size of BSS so good job editing! they’ve been my favorite indie rock band for years.
Nice honest video! The realities Love it!
Andrew Whiteman is hilarious here - I totally relate to his messy pedalboard and his constantly being at a loss around it - but at the same time he is such a phenomenally gifted dude. I loved the first two Apostle of Hustle records - and his guitar and song work with BSS. I’m not really a fan of broken social scene but Andrew Whiteman is a great rock and roll punk poet artist type and a fantastic musician. Great to watch this. And he always gets super cool guitar tones regardless of whether his pedal board is neat and tidy or not lol/ check out Apostle of Hustle- start with Folkloric Feel
I suffer with Pedal Stress every day of my life. Thank you EQD for bringing this terrible affliction out of the shadows. And also adding to it.

Mr. Canning's shirt looks super comfy.
I like that this video came with a vocal solo.
Fuck yea, I’ll see them next week
EHX Canyon does that exact multitap that gets louder as the echos progress at less than half the size of the hazarai.
I like your style, dude
Note: use the FM4 for death-metal-regueton 😝
7:00 well that is an authentic pedal issue!
Andrew should hook up with the guys at That Pedal Show. They made a nice board for Ed O'Brien. I bet if BSS is on their radar they'd do one for him too.
I watched this immediately after the Nels Cline video where Nels shits on Chorus. As a big fan the Walrus Audio Julia and an enormous fan of Nels Cline, I'm disappointed but also interested in the Jam. Haha. I really dig this guy's style. The working man's ambient soundscape artist
10:24 - that board stresses me out. Poor sound guy
Yeah,- hear the frustration regarding the "new" pedal market: what you find, after much time, effort, and expense, is that there is much that is limited in application. There is live, studio, and then "bedroom",- the latter only working solo, for practice,- in theory. A lot of the boutique stuff is like that, - tough to wrangle in , work into a mix,- dark, murky, not cutting through. Done a lot of simplifyng , recently, because it's easy to lose sight of what you're playing, as opposed to how ,- effects should be an aid, not a frustration.Sometimes , only that one chorus works(I dig the Minifooger).
I didnt know kurt russell played in a band. 😁
these guys are funny
Get rid of the purple line 6 and get the line 6 m9 (has the purple and all the stompboxes in and you can save multiple pages of sounds) such an underrated pedal
Anybody know what Andrew's guitar is? Gibson ES-275?

“Late consumerist capitalism” lmfao. I hope his music isn’t as bad as his tankie buzzwords.
4th dislike. I have enjoyed every Episode up to this one. Egregioius. Disjointed. Overzealous mention of EQD.
