Great video. I'm 67, and a life-long railroad buff. And this is the first time seeing this operation take place. Proves...you never stop LEARNING, when you think you've seen it all. Thanks very much.

Another great video! Thank you for the effort you put forth and sharing. Years ago, I watched a maintenance team replace rails on a section of local track. They gave me a couple of small pieces of rail that I still use today in my shop as anvils.

The rail is secured in the middle. It can expand and contract on both ends

i think they can only go 10 mph in corners and up to 40 on straights, at least for csx... but i've never been on one.

Another train with ITs machinery ..They doesn't lift 'em by hand any more.

Rail Unloader Machine (RUM). The highway wheels permit the machine to be driven to a grade crossing to be connected to the rail train.

I think each rail section is 1/4 mile long--worked a summer job which welded these rails together in a separate location..Rolled out on the flat roller cars for delivery. I never saw them installed--thx for video

130 in the summer. 20 in the winter. Naah. Not me.

They usually only replace ties and rail in the summer time. At least they did where I live. And yes it got HOT and lots of rattle snakes to contend with.@@joehnunya
