BNSF Cajon Pass- Main 3 and Its 3% Grade in Action!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The steepest main line which sees regular freight service on the BNSF system is on the Cajon Sub. Between Cajon and Summit Main 3 (the old westbound track) takes the quickest route to Summit. At times this track has a 3% grade, " climbing 3 feet every 100 feet". Only the hottest and or under tonnage trains are permitted on this track.. Sit back and watch Amtrak, UP and tons of BNSF Z9's conquer Cajon Pass.
Enjoy!

I grew up about a half a mile west of a fairly large train yard in Salt Lake. You could hear train noises all night long, I just loved it. Trains were a large part of my youth. I actually remember seeing steam locomotives on those tracks before they all disappeared. Now I live in a retirement town in southern Utah where there are no trains at all. That's why I like these videos. It's the only way I can hear a train whistle. Thanks.
I have added this video to my 'long cab rides' playlist even though it is not a cab ride. Spectacular scenes!
Magnificent video! What a great location to film trains and you did it perfectly.
Very nice. Pretty impressive, how fast some of those stack trains climbed the 3%+ grade.
Great action Robert, your train videos never cease to amaze me!
Great work as usual Trains.
Excellent video robert !!! Angles are way better than i expected !!!!!
Its a pretty killer line, for us to have in OUR country. I for one am proud, I love trains and lines all over the world, but wow.
Awesome video. TY for sharing
Great container and trailer weathering ideas!
spettacolare grazie del bellissimo video.
Great video!
That is some sweet intermodal action.
Seems like now a days I see more J B Hunt, Stevens, and UPS trailers on trains than I do on the highways.
Wonderful video. UP wins it for me, much more interesting power.
Wow great video
Excellent work. May I ask what your equipment set-up is?
I owned a home in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca, just below Cajon Pass. Sometimes, those trains would pass along tracks just behind my yard, for 20 minutes and more. Fortunately, they only passed during daylight hours, when everyone was working.

Lamont Lewis Sir you must sleep like a log because that place is 24/7 it seemed to me that the trains were louder at night because of the still air then in daylight I go up there as much as I can I have a jeep that I take on the trails back there it is a fun place to go in fact I think I’ll go again this week usually on a Wednesday middle of the week good train action and the weather supposed to be in the 70s not bad for January where most of the country people are freezing
Sensacional guerreiro!! 🤔😃👍👏👏
Good job !!!
I kind of miss the days of 4-5 SD40/SD45 consists with their loud, very distinctive sounds. The current SD70ACe/SD70ACe-T4 and ES44AC/ET44AC has a very different sound going uphill.
Nice video, subscribed
Awesome..
I gave you a thumbs up thoroughly enjoyed your video next time you go up there which I go all the time I noticed you were filming near the memorial for the 1996 train wreck I have gone up to that memorial and number of times to clean it up a bit so next time you go you might notice a difference
Lenticular cloud @21:50.

WHAT "UPS"👍🏾
I find this very interesting. Why did the track twist and turn at 8:16 ? Why not make it straight?
New railroad plan Gerber to Eureka using Low Gap between the Yolla Bollys. Follows Copttonwood Creek to S. Trinity River. Tunnel to Mad River into Arcata.

So when is the construction. The lumber business up there needs a route out. Besides, ports like Eureka and Coos Bay are starting to get busy..
