  I designed those cars in 2000. The intended use was on NS import slab move from a Delaware River port to Duferco in Farrell, PA. NS loved the cars. Customer didn't bite on the deal despite NS naming a screamer of a rate. I suggested to Johnstown America they show BNSF the design for the Long Beach to Fontana move. They bought the cars. Given the low tare weight of the cars, they can carry 5 slabs vs 4 in a gondola. Cars can be loaded with a fork lift and discharged with tongs that can lift 2 slabs at a time. In the PA move on NS, they could have moved the same annual volume of 1.2M MT of slab with 40 fewer trains using these slab cars since each car hauled that extra slab.

  97? I counted 97 on this train. I see them all the time on flatbed trucks around York PA. They are coming from a BAE local plant (in York anyway). Clearly these are in California.
