Busy putting new tyres on my 87k75s. With the front lifted I noticed how stiff and notchy those headstem bearings are, hence why I'm watching this.. thank you for the great info.
Another way of getting at that knurled nut is to remove the fuel tank and use a pipe wrench. In the UK we call those bearing race marks 'brinelling'. For those of us that don't have an air hammer, I've found that once it's hot enough you can use a sharpened cold chisel to lift the inner race.
Great music in the background….The Smiths, Bigmouth strikes again! Wish i had a BMW mechanic like you over here!
Thank you for taking the time for these videos. I did the spline lube last year and will be tackling this bearings as my next DIY project. You make it so easy to see exactly how a pro does it.

Take your time and you'll do fine.
i love this magnet bar... never seen before... Thanks for the Video, but i am happy that the bearing at my bike is in good condition. Regards from Germany, Stuttgart, Ralf & the K100LT
Hi from Belgium! Just found your vid. Very instructive. I bought a K1100rs. Good bike but need some maintenance of course. I’m gonna watch your others vids. Thank you 👍👍
Hi Chris, it's me the retired A&P mechanic. One thing I like to do whenever I get a triple tree off (no matter what bike I'm working on) is to very lightly hone the stanchion holes to remove the high spots. This may not be something you want to do seeing how time is money for you but it only take about 30 seconds per hole. I also put some copper coat in the holes before refitting the stanchions.Cheers, Eric

Thanks Eric & Happy 2014, Chris
10:43 is where the good music starts :D always have it on, on my K100LT!
Chris: The "shallow" bolt you're complaining about--you're supposed to use a special Allen head wrench with a pin on the end. That's supposed to allow you to apply extra torque without the wrench rounding out the head of the bolt. BMW uses those on their cars, too.
It's not too bad!
Shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.
Chris,is there any application when you do not use copper anti seize? Is there an issue with ever losing torque spec with anti seize? Thanks for the great videos,Terry
Pfff, this looks like a tough job. I don't even consider doing this myself ;-) Very interesting to watch though!
Hello Chris. I have a question. My BMW K75RT has a lock on central position while steering. Bearings should be replaced or what i must do with it?
They're called "piloted" allen head bolts: They're discussed at Beemershop(dot)com.
Samstagsales.com has the pilot tip hex keys for the clamping bolts on the bridges
No contamination or electo-reaction to the copper anti-seize.
Do you have a video or a how to on head gasket on a 93 k1100lt.

I do not.
Hi, for tax reasons(we have rediculous taxes on bikes here), I want to put a K1100LT(1994) on to a K100(1986) frame. Can you tell me in a few words about the difficulties I am facing? I do have a lot of technical experience and I DO know how to use a wrench, and to me it seems a fairly easy job.

@@zdenekdanek5102 It was straight forward and posed no problems at all.
What is this "copper nec" you always talking about?

It is!
That shallow bolt needs an allen key with a pilot tip. You are using the wrong tool.
What does he say at 10:22? Cruck season them?

Toasticuss He was saying that if somebody would have used copper anti seize on the bolts they would have come out easily, and that hardly anybody uses it. I started using it and am glad I did. Don't know why I never did in the past. Laziness or just being too cheap, I suppose.
