its like you read my mind about the spark plugs. i had a 3 series with an m43tu engine it had a 4 tips plug i was shocked i saw the single tip spark plung on my 2006/07 n52b25af on the x3 which is newer version compared to the m43tu which was manufactured arnd the 2001. So you have just answered the question cant wait to change them, thank you for tackling this subject.

Thank you very much for your educational videos, Doc. A question that I do have is, do you know the part number for the updated VANOS Solenoid that you mentioned in this video?

Hi Doctor D, Keep up the good job. Your ECU updating was an eye opener. Have the same symptoms on a 2012 N55, changed spark plugs, ignition coils, valve cover AND VANOS solenoid but it doesn't get rid of the rough idle. Do you think ECU updating will also solve this? Regards, Phil

lol the stealerships on any car is such a rip. You, Nathan, Shoplife, askthecarexperts and my dads friend Aaron who works on BMWs since the 80s have been the best! Aaron drives a E46 like mine which is so cool! Problem is trying to find a great mechanic in todays era which is not easy and is the reason why DIYing exist. I DIY my E46 but Aaron has saved me so much money on simple repairs. Once I got a transmission light thinking I had a major issue, turned out to be the brake switch was causing my gas pedal to not communicate with the transmission. Only charged me $30 for the switch.

I am extremely impressed by how much ''high level'' knowledge there is in this video. To increase your popularity in UK you will have to get that DIESEL 535D :) N52 is a rare engine in UK. Amongst many things, it's fascinating how many variations of N52 manifolds there seem to be. My N52B25 intake manifold has 2 disas, but no PCV breather can for example liek the B30 in your car. I only have a hose going from the manifold to back of the engine. Does it make it a 3 or single stage ?

Whistling and rough idle? 2007 x3. Should i change valve cover like dealership told me or look for acheaper way? Pcv valve supposedly but its molded to valve cover they say..

I replaced my N51 spark plugs with the same old design Iridium spark plug from Autolite, not even from NGK because I planned to replace them every 30k miles or so. Ran just fine mate. One problem that I had was rough idle right after the replacement. INPA said misfire cylinder 4. Swapped my ignition coil 4 and 1, and boom it ran great. I have not got any issue since. Somehow the order of ignition coil matters.

No mate they don’t matter at all. All you have done is moved the bad coil to another cylinder but your problem will come back watch and see ignition coils do not matter what way they are placed on this engine at all

Im on that operation for my n52b25 to begin a fresh start for the engine.Changed 6 spark plugs # maf sensor and big disa (oem).Still saving money for the small disa # ignition coils, the both vanos solenoids (oem) and removing cats to finish the program.Pretty sure i want to take the car to dealer to reset all adaptations on engine cuz after changing the big disa ( old was original # broken) i couldn't feel any difference at all.I still think this engine become like new when you reset the throttle adaptations.After changed the big disa when disconnected the body after that car was like new.So much response on the gas pedal like a little virgin.I even couldnt belive that that was my car and felt that power only 1 time after bought it.After 1 day all the things went like they were.Almost zero reaction when i hit the gas pedal even on the half position still cant feel this 218 ps and it makes me sad.Still couldn't find a video for throttle reset on e90 (not for 1 drive only) but i want to do full reset after i change all theese things to feel the real car power again.Im not a racer but i'd love to feel the car with every little step on the gas.Somewhere i wrote the electrical throttle make a huge difference after reseting adaptations but it happens only after first driving and it all comes back on next drive.But man i have to spend a lot of money only for theese things and on the other side have the burning n52b25a oil problem 1l per 1000km.I know this piston rings will be very expensive and after opening the engine a lot of components should be changed due to high degrees. But i really miss that day when car had so much response.

You just knocked me out of my chair. The dealer I worked for we had a engine the if it use used on a hill it would starve the engine oil because of the oil pick up location. Nothing was said about it.

it looks like the single tip plug has about 10mm more thread length then the new 4 tip plug. They cant correct for the same engine. One is too long or the other is too short. or did you just use generic single and 4 tip plugs for demonstration ?

No no this is what bmw was using in there cars for the ignition system I don’t know why this is why they changed over for this reason to the high power 4 tip plugs from them long ones they was so low down in the chamber they was beeing over covered in fuel all the time

There designed mostly for n52 to make sure they keep the idle smooth that’s when these plugs come about for that engine because a single electrode wasn’t enough... these will probably be my last and final petrol videos anyway mate as I’m about to start all the diesel phase now

I had my torque converter changed earlier this year on my 2011 328i xdrive because it was vibrating on 3rd gear. Doing it again months later. Tomorrow im changing the oil housing gasket myself.

I can do but only if it’s requested enough otherwise I won’t most of my subscribers are n52 N53 and m57 Diesel not m5 so it won’t be very big but I’m not saying I can’t do it I will if there is enough demand

Do I HAVE to update? Should I? Early model 2006 330xi with the non plastic valve cover. Rough idle and was simply going to put in new plugs and coils. Thanks... I will gladly pay for update if it is needed. A lot of this information is over my level of understanding as I am not a mechanic but just enjoy learning and servicing my own vehicle when I can.

Yes mate you need the update as you have 2006 model that is when the problem was severe there has been 2 updates since that I can do it for you if need be DO NOT REPLACE YOUR PLUGS AND COILS trust me Email me at bmwdoctordean at gmail dot com and I can update your car and solve this issue 2006 year was a bad year for the firmware how I know simple I have the same year same engine update fixed my issue from that dreaded rough idle

I wouldn’t advise it without updating your car won’t run properly and rough idle if you have it will be worse the best thing you can do is get the software update it yourself

With all this information bmw should have a few class action lawsuits against them from the consumers they are not a fare company, pure shady crooked business for profitable gains, this is why I never go there for service.

Hard to say if that's done on purpose, but nowadays there is problem with HU-B, switches on and off randomly, so you'r going to fault memory, there will be fault about HU-B reset, running a test module for this fault, at the end of test ista is asking should it put HU-B into programming mode. Press yes and it's game over for HU-B, won't accept programming and you will have permanent blue screen

Are you from the us???? Which I take it you are If so that is correct you shouldn’t be using these plugs THESE plugs are for Uk and Eu cars only they have a higher fuel grade and mapping these plugs require a faster burning fuel ratio then what you have FUEL RATIO 99 v power and BMW’s aggressive mapping only available on m sport models here in the uk and Eu by you using these 4 prong plugs you will end the life of your car and have sever detonation and knocking

RoPower your welcome mate I’m not saying it in a bad way I’m just stating mate when I first come on KZread I had ALOT of U.K. guys needing the correct help that others were not giving so I was doing this mainly for them to help them Then I had a lot of USA guys and now my videos have changed and started applying to everyone

I think the confusion about your fondness for “BMW” parts, is the fact BMW doesn’t make all their parts. For instance are saying there is a diff between a genuine BMW N62 secondary air injection pump valve and a Pierburg valve? Pierburg makes the valve for BMW as Bosch makes the spark plug continental makes the water pump etc etc. So are you saying I can’t get the continental water pump I need the BMW box it comes in? I think you need to make that clarification.

kenneth wilson it’s normal in your country mate as bmw dealer don’t know how to do anything there dopey I can’t even believe you took it to them what you need now is the update to rectify it which I can do remotely for you but it’s not free

Right now I’m rebuilding the whole front end I’ll have to update it once the car back together
