The most powerful F1 engine in history. 4 bar of turbo pressure and no wastegate in qualification. 1300hp in 1.5 lt displacement.

85psi they ran and 1400bhp boost was lowered to 63psi for the race ! best engine ever

This is what i read in a interview with the old BMW F1 engine engineer. On qualification laps they turned the boost up to achieve a maximum output 1600hp, but when the few laps were done the engine was so worn down they had to scrap it and replace it for the actual race. It was good old time when the engineers looked at the color of the spark plug to see if the fuel mixture was alright. To days F1 is extremely boring compared to the old days.

They actually ran up to 5.5 bar of boost in qualifying to get over 1000hp. Less boost and power was used during the actual race in order to keep the engine intact.

Well, looks like we'll be seeing (and hearing) engines like this again starting in 2013.

@eddohan: it could be possible, but remember the costs needed to make a 1.5l engine produce 1000HP? It was almost 1 engine per race. They could run 100km with 1 liter of petrol, but it would either be too slow or too expensive to run fast. Or maybe combining petrol and something else...

@tinySHINEY1 Both is possible: The had ´round 800-900 hp in race (engine last longer) and round 1300 hp in Qualifying. I read that the BMW-engine-dyno showed 1450 hp in 1986, but the dyno couldn´t get all this power, so it was over 1450 hp at full pressure of 5,x bar.

Honda F1 turbos were over 1500 bhp for qualifying apparently . Renault started this with a 1500 ex rally engine. The story as i know it these BMW engine blocks were left outside and the workers used to urinate on them and bm said carry on is that right

Why dont car-factories throw away ALL Hybrid engine's(they cost way to much batteries, which are bad for nature) and start making 1ltr(maybe 0.5ltr engine) engine's with turbo's!?!?!? If they can make an 1.5ltr engine that produces over 1000HP with a turbo, they can also make it run 100km on 1 ltr petrol can they? Or is it not that simple?

@epl0si0n Yeah, but the M10 cant handle this much. The S50 /or 30 can handle this much, but on 3iters engine. This gotta be spesial build! L O V E I IT!

its less exciting. its more about technology and less about the driver. i like nascar because they all keep the cars the same. its all about the driver and less about the car.

Don't you find technology exciting? I do. I like cars more than I liking racing drivers. There is more overtaking now anyway. I think you are a bit too nostalgic.
