So Mark basically doesn't like everyday sporty cars, he only loves his commuters or pure sports cars. So this was basically a rant on which cars he doesn't like and less so a review of an example of a modified E92. Okay, Mark, we get it, it is not an S2000. And the comments about how interior doesn't look or feel special are nonsense, especially since this car is a stripper. A GT2 RS has the same interior, even can have the same seats as a Carrera. No one bats an eye.

Not true its just a counter point. If you want a pure design you have to go to more purpose built cars. There are way better luxury cars that do everything better. There are better sports cars, but the magic of the M3 is that it blends both. But in that quest it loses something. I was talking about this with a guy from ABT in regards to washers and dryer combos from LG. One device that does washing and drying, except it doesnt do either as well as seperate units. Its for people who want convenience or don't have the space. These mixed purpose cars have same problems as other things we use and buy. All season tires, low fat lattes, soy hot dogs etc.

I traded in my E92 M3 for one and aside from never having to take more than 1 other person to lunch or dinner with me the daily usability was just as good due the trunk and the frunk. So many collectible paper weights for all the bills that come with the car. Its a feature. Now all jokes aside, I do think if drivers warm this car up better, use lighter weight oil in colder climates, and baby it, till it warms up much like I do my ISF, I surmise those rod bearings would see a lot less wear. Anecdotal experience but what I've realized about many BMW owners is, new buyers beat their cars hard within warranty, no warm up, no waiting for the engine to get to temp. And then the cars inevitably take a shit years later. If more new owners were gentle on these motors pre warmup, they would prolly hold up better. But dollar for dollar spent, in the M3 one would be maintaining to keep stock power, in the ISF, that money gets you power mods. Can't hate on the M3 but at the same time, that oil weight was just too heavy for a street car. 10w60 is never going to warm up but will do better lap after lap.

Did the European delivery on this M3 at the Welt in Munich. They showed me the car, shut the hood gently since you’re inside this “BMW world” and it’s pretty quiet, and then down the ramp you go out the door. The autobahn is only a short distance, unlimited speed begins not too far from that. Keeping in mind the break-in period, I accelerated up to 80, then 90, then hit 100. Felt so strong, handled so well, I put my foot into a bit more. 110 then 115, now at 120 suddenly the left side of the hood came up! It never latched completely from the Welt!!! The right side stayed latched or this could have been a disaster. I pulled over, no damage or twisting found, but wow that was close. Went from hero to nearly zero in less than 20minutes. Fun times 🤪

The only reason that the BMW M3 GTR was made was to go along with the Le Mans rules stating that any vehicle raced must be produced in certain numbers for a certain length of time before the racing car starts its season. Since the Le Mans M3 GTR was a V8, the road car had to be, as well. To fulfill this rule, BMW put 10 road going M3 GTR models on sale after the 2001 season, for €250,000 each. The road car used a slightly detuned version of the P60 rated at 380 horsepower at 7,000 rpm - complete with dry-sump lubrication and sharply canted radiator with hood venting. Power was transmitted through a racing style twin-disc clutch to a 6-speed manual gearbox and variable locking M differential."

The running costs and the threat of unreliability keeps it in the garage 24/7. And if he wanted a garage queen, he would’ve bought a more dedicated car anyways. He said it’s the worse of both worlds and the compromise sucks He’s only keeping it now for investment sakes, and only takes it out to stretch it legs, but otherwise, he said he would’ve spent his money elsewhere if he could go back in time. Great video! Nice to see you guys teaming up with Obsessed Garage. I honestly think that the E9# 328i or 330i with a manual transmission and sport package is the better daily driver. It is not as complicated as the M3, weighs less, has better steering feel, has much better fuel economy, and has the sweet naturally aspirated inline 6 engine. It is not fast, but it does not need to be for daily driving. You can push it on regular roads without engaging in reckless driving in a matter of seconds. Coupling the E9# 328i or 330i with a dedicated sports car (e.g., E85 Z4, Porsche Boxster) is the better way to go in my opinion.

Yes, it is a quirky motor with ITB and rod bearing issues but they're well documented and have proper solutions to correct any issue. I remember when you guys tested Jack's Corvette Grand Sport and one major complaint was that the V8 motor, though powerful, had no character. This S65, despite it's light torque numbers, solves that.

Definitely a collectible. Yes the engine is special, but the design is also awesome, head turner. I think M took a sports sedan and took it as close as it could to a sports car while still being a daily, job done. If I had the space for a daily and a weekend car, would not want an M, an AMG, etc, but I only have space for one car, so these more extreme but daily drivable sport sedans are targeting my wallet!

That is the best looking BMW I have ever seen. Just gorgeous.
