    Yup, try coding it out. I've tried the resistor/cap combo before and it kind of works. But I think the cutoff frequency shifts with temperature. So sometimes the flickering will come back randomly. Best to try to code it out.

    You need to code the cold check on all the back lights. Had this on every led install on bmws :)

    Could it be something with the ground? Maybe jump the power from the high brake light?

    FLICKERING: Look for a setting in the LCM module where you (maybe) could switch from bulb to LED. The E46 had it for the FL version where the tail lights were LEDs and it then changed the way it powered the lights. Bulbs are powered by impulses. They are not powered constantly but in pulses. A bulb can't dimm that fast so you see it always lit. LEDs however can't be powered by pulses and if you do then you get that flickering. If there is a menu toggle for that in your LCM then just switch it. If not then you need to buy a LED ballancing module that will sort out the pulses and convert them into constant power. ...another problem could be your alternator or alternator regulator going down the drain. But then you would be able to see flickering on the inside lights as well (pulsing light bulbs everywhere). This would get worse the more drain you would cause. Like seat heating to maximum etc :)

    @2bad833 жыл бұрын

    Hi, These bmws have pulse power technology that reduces heat of regular halogen bulbs. You need a LED decoder to stabilise that voltage..

    I also did put his kinda lights on my X5 few years ago, completely same design, probs brand too, but with casual bulbs on sides. I think leds are just overrated, hard no notice on winter when leds don't melt the snow off and.. well. I would now have picked OEM ones! 🤣 But it's just opinion stuff, or age thingy.

    Code the hot and cold check off for the lights where there are leds, you can do it with bmw scanner, its also alot better for you leds if its also, it also keeps the leds from flickering when the lights are off

    I'm pretty sure you will need to reprogram the system to stop the system sending a check lights signal to the tail end. The signal is a surge of power to test if the lights are faulty, therefore adding extra watts to the low watt leds. So the flicker is caused by the fault test signal.

    I suspect the flicker is a "bulb" saving feature, if the battery voltage is high they PWM the lamps. If you have a facility to use a power supply instead of a battery it would be interesting to try them at 11v to see if it stops. I seem to remember there is come coding which sets this up (at least there is in the E65).

    Possibly. With the ibus app i put on yesterday. I can change the voltage going to the tail lights. The more i turn them up the less they flicker. However when turned up they look more like a brake light.

  • @embeddedusystems

    @embeddedusystems

    interesting, suspect the solution is to turn them up to full voltage and use a resistor to drop the voltage at the lamp to dim them! Not ideal! (put resistor in series not the usual parallel)

    How did you wire the rear fog lights? Or did the car come wired this way because you're in Australia. I have a euro lcm control module in the U.S. sadly its not plug and play. Do you know how I can hook mine up?

  • @ZeroTo60Tube

    @ZeroTo60Tube

    For us it was just plug and play. The fogs being in the garnishes on the tail gate. Does your car not have wiring in the tail gate for the fogs? You may be able to calibrate the LCM using PA soft to do what you need as well.

  • @R2RO1

    @R2RO1

    @@ZeroTo60Tube hello. Yes it has the wiring in the gate which is why I thought it would work. I bought the same lcm module you have. I do however need to learn how to install and use PA soft. Not sure if that's all I need. I guess I'll be scouring the internet for that info. Seems complicated but so does everything else you've never done before. 🤔

    Thats a different flicker. This flicker is caused by the PWM signal that the light control module uses to run the buld. With a tradition bulb a PWM signal is great for affecting brightness. However with LEDs, that PWM turns them on and off.

    Here is a simple solution I have used: You need to connect a capacitor on each side to regulate the voltage flow, which eliminates flickering. Lightwerkz in the US offers a ready-made, prewired, and plug & play system for $25 US. It comes with instructions, and I can’t tell you how easy it is to install. It took me 5 minutes. Since KZread doesn’t allow links in video replies, go to Lightwerkz and search “E53 TAIL LIGHT - CAPACITOR FIX”. You will be very happy.
