Most everyone I know who bought a BMW, or Mercedes, or VW, or Audi, after the first or second one they said "Never again!". The exceptions were people who did not have to pay for it because it was their employer who gave them a company owned/leased car to use. Then they did not care about the cost. I was talking to a guy who parks his X5 next to me where I live. After 60,000 miles he was having gasket and seal failures. Oil leaking everywhere. The garage owner was telling him to not park in the garage like this. This was costing him some thousands of dollars.

Of course,me being me,I have to modify every vehicle I own. I pulled the 4.0L I6 and stroked it out. My god would that thing run! Yes it’s true I’m working on a BMW X6 Hybrid right now. I think the previous mechanic unplugged some connectors without disconnecting the battery because with BMW merely unplugging connectors without first disconnecting the battery can cost a very expensive electronic problem. I had re flashed the DME the CAS and abut to re flash a whole bunch of other electronic controls to see if I can get it to start. I know the hybrid battery drains to below operating voltage overnight so that’s one of the problem.

I just purchased a new X3 and it’s really fantastic. Refined quality and luxury driving experience. About repairs, it’s got the 4 year bumper to bumper warranty which can be extended to about 150k miles for about $3k. It’s also comes with free maintenance for 3 years too. Basically there no pit of pocket expense u til you’re out of warranty. Most cars that have problems these days are very expensive to repair or fix after the warranty. Even the Japanese and Korean SUV types are expensive and if loaded luxury models. So the bottom line is you simply trade or sell after 4 years OR get an extended warranty if you love it. If this don’t like the expense then get a lower price easier to maintain model. Meanwhile it s nice to have options.

My daughter bought a new 2007 BMW X5 and was always borrowing our spare car when her X5 was in the shop. Most of her car has been replaced with parts and she refused to sell it to her friend because she didn't want to lose her friend.

Scotty, you put the hammer on the nail as usual...learn so much from you.
I'm surprised Scotty didn't bring up the turbo.
People love these money pits here in the UK. I've owned 2 and I can honestly say they were the worst cars I've ever owned. Only this month UK police have announced they are ceasing to use BMW's due to the fact they keep catching fire......
Heyy Scotty, love the videos, anytime i wonder about what car should i get i always get excited on the looks but I'm not really a mechanic, so i watched your videos and it kept me from screwing up Big time. Not even the new ones are any good. My dentist brother leased a brand new 640i a few years back.. It was constantly bonging about sensor fault this, or low fluid in that reservoir. Visit service center soon, visit service center soon... People think "Well, with a lease, it's no problem because repairs are included in price.". WRONG! You still pay, with your time.. Thus, he got so tired of it, he asked me to take it in a few times for him. I said "Sure, why not?" Didn't mind, because they are nice cars to drive!
Had a 2006 v8,reliable car, no problems FOR 15 YEARS.

I bought my BMW X2 for 20.000€ less than the purchase price and it had only 16.000km. Fortunately over here BMW is one of the most common brands so you get mechanics everywhere that know how to maintain them.

We bought a 2015 BMW 335 xi new. The only repair we had was to replace a headlight (450.00) Ouch ! This is the best auto I have ever. I worked for FOMOCO 18 years as an engineer. While there I went through a lot of cars. The second best car I had was a 1990 Mustang LX 5 liter V8 with a 5 speed manual transmission. By the way the BMW is much faster than the Mustang. I replaced the run flat tires with 235/ 45/18 Michelin all season tires The new tires softened the ride and reduced the road noise. I change the engine oil every 3000 miles and burn Shell premium fuel.
I usually say Bavarian Money Waster, but Bring My Wallet works too.
Love my fully loaded 2017 440i and my 2001 M5. VERY dependable cars. If you like a nice DRIVING experience and want a vehicle that will reward you with impeccable driving feel, it's difficult to go wrong with a BMW. Sure, they are expensive to maintain, but if they were all crap, they'd be out of business.

I totally agree. I have owned many cars in my day and the two BMW's I have owned were no more trouble than either the Toyota or Honda I owned. If you look at the most recent data, and arn't stuck in the 90's, then you will learn that the average toyota repair is as expensive as a BMW or Mercedes.

With that kinda mileage and depending on the age of the vehicle I would contact BMW headquarters regarding the a/c compressor and condenser. Even if they don’t give him a full credit towards a warranty replacement a lot of times they will give you a partial reimbursement for your troubles. I’ve had that happen before with newer cars that have had a/c problems, specifically with Hondas. I’m not sure if BMW will absolutely do anything to help him out but it’s worth a shot reaching out to them and seeing what they’ll do for him.
I was in an x5 today 2022 ….. surprised by the lack of leg room…. But it could move !!
But where can one find a decent ’94 Celica today? My BMW is 15 years old and I’ve never had any issues with it. I’ve changed the filters and oil on time.

As a previous BMW owner i attest to this. Imagine your adaptive headlight module is not working and or the whole headlight unit is not working replacing those pair of headlights will cost you a pre owned corolla … im not kidding. The parts for these cars sometimes is more than the value of the car 😂😂😂
