YUMMY!! I make a similar version to this Banana Split cake. I'm in northern Scandinavia, even if I am born and raised in the US and used to all the various mixes you can buy, Over the years I've lived here, I've had to figure out how to reach the same or at least as near the same results, without the mixes. 🤔 I make this Banana Split Cake not with the crackers at the bottom, even if we do have graham crackers and other cookie crackers. I make it with a baked soft/moist/spongy vanilla cake bottom about one inch thick. Since we can't find Cool Whip over here, I use heavy whipping cream, sweetened with powdered sugar. I don't ad any vanilla to the whipped cream. For the vanilla pudding, I make my own from scratch, just making it much thicker than I normally would make it for a pourable vanilla sauce/cream topping. I do the same as you, folding the whipped cream into the cooled vanilla pudding. I take my own homemade type Philadelphia cream cheese, (we can find Philadelphia cream cheese here but, it's very expensive...) with added sugar to it and spread that out on the cake bottom, which has been chilled and loosened from the pan but, put back in the pan again to be able to put the rest of the toppings on, without it oozing out everywhere... 😂(yep, been there, done that, got the t-shirt... Still tasted good but... It wasn't pretty... 😱 😁) I don't use the pineapple even if I love it on its own and in other recipes. My family and I prefer to add canned sliced peaches instead. as well as a few other berries/fruit. Next step is that I add the mix of whipped cream/vanilla pudding on top of the sliced peaches. After the vanilla pudding/whipped cream, I add the sliced bananas. If you slice your bananas ahead of time and place them in water which has lemon/lime juice in it, it will prevent the bananas from turning brown. They will eventually still turn brown but, not as fast. Similar to apples... Next I'll spread the rest of the whipped cream, that I have added about a teaspoon of vanilla extract too on top of the "cake". More sliced bananas on top and instead of the chocolate syrup, I drizzle a fruit syrup that I feel goes along taste wise with both the vanilla, peaches and bananas. I've used peach syrup, raspberry syrup and strawberry syrup, they're all good. As a "garnish" I use chopped up slices of peaches or, whatever other fruit I have used inside the cake. I've used both peaches, raspberries, kiwis and strawberries... It's all good... ☺ Thank you for sharing your recipe. 🙏❤

@@ellacarson2048 I've both seen and eaten a variation of ingredients and toppings such as different berries, chocolate, syrups, baked meringue tops/peaks, ice cream and more. So far, the only thing consistent, has been the bananas... 😁 They all taste good though. Have no idea what the first original banana split was made out of.

This takes a little longer, but I find that baking the graham cracker crust for a few minutes makes it hold together better and no need to freeze. It also gives a delicious nutty flavor. Also, homemade pudding/Bavarian cream is an alternative to boxed mix pudding.

Mama would bake too. Cool it - get harder crunchier and more crust thicker - thick crunch makes it the cake. Use this with Key-lime pie topped with meringue in place of whipped topping. Brown cool - refrigerate 4-5 hours - cold

Hi Tammy! This is one of my favorites too! We have always made them with just a couple of small variances. One, butter and vanilla are also mixed in with the cream cheese, AMAZING! Two, we always use chocolate wafers instead of graham crackers. Also, we always freeze the whole thing. I got this recipe many years ago on the back of an Imperial sugar bag. In the summer I often serve it with fresh strawberries, but when I added the strawberries to the cake itself the kids LOVED it, but the adults do not find frozen strawberries so enjoyable to eat. Love Your recipes and Your story! I also LOVE Your kitchen! You have great taste and decorating skills! 💕 I am so happy for you and Chris in Your new home 💝

Coat the sliced bananas in the pineapple juice (or other citrus, like lemon juice) to help them stay pretty for longer. I do that when I make banana pudding and it does help. Probably won't prevent browning but does seem to take longer.

I thought I had cool whip. I had 2 cool whip containers in the freezer. From now on all my recycled containers will have black ink marks all over them! One container was chili and the other was fish 🤣

We called it mud pie. It would have the pecan, flour and butter crust. Baked. Then the cream cheese, powder sugar layer, then a chocolate pudding layer, then a vanilla pudding layer, then whipped cream or Cool whip layer.. When I moved to Alabama people would bring it to work made with a graham cracker crust. Didn't like it. Thought it tasted better with the flour, pecan, butter crust. That crunch of the pecans and butter with the salt was a nice contrast with the sweetness of the rest of puddings.

I would love that with some chopped walnuts on it!! Never made that before. I'm sure it was probably from the 70's, of which I made a lot of pudding desserts. Will be making that for sure, Melaney from SoCal

Looks delicious. The bananas won't brown if you dip them in the pineapple juice or lemon juice.

Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe. My mom would make this when I was growing up. She passed away 9 years ago and I never got the recipe from her. Also how do you like your Forno gas range and hood? I'm looking to purchase both for my home.
