I was born and raised in NorthEast Texas, my Great Grandmother used to make these pies when I was a kid. Makes me think home and floods me with cherished memories.
TAMMY I ALMOST CRIED AT THE END WHEN YOU SAID LIKE GRANNY B DID. MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER, WAS CALLED GRANNY BEASLEY AND US KIDS WOULD CALL HER GRANNY B. SO SWEET THE MEMORIES.
One of my favorites. Chocolate pie. Microwave makes it even better. Thank you, beautiful
I think the preacher must have whispered a quiet Hallelujah when he tasted that pie. Looks so delicious.
Tomorrow for sure with my homemade vanilla. Maybe no one will like it but me!! LOL! I canned a dozen quarts of your spaghetti sauce. 5 times the recipe. No meat. Will brown and add the kind I need when I make the dish for dinner. It's our favorite recipe, hands down!

Looks just like my mother's. She died at 92 and the whole family has really missed her chocolate pie! Now, I think I can do it! Thank you!!!
I just happened by your videos watching KZread. I just watched you make your grandmother's chocolate pie. It is the exact chocolate pie that my grandmother always made for me. I have not had it since she had passed away decades ago. Now I have the recipe and I cannot thank you enough. I have looked high and low for a chocolate meringue pie and have never found one. Thanks again you have a new fan for life.❤
I miss my Grandma so much ❤

Gee, never thought about my (our) Southern Accent, but thanks. We are slow talking, and love to feed you our favorite foods. When I found Tammy, I stopped looking. I live in NW Alabama and she lived in Central Georgia at that time. To me, Tammy wrote the Bible on Southern Cooking.
As a child, one of my first words was "pie", and that meant Ollie Belle's chocolate meringue pie. She'd come to do work for my elderly grandmother in Tazewell VA back in the 1960's, and occasionally she'd make a pie in addition to doing housework. I've never had a pie to equal Ollie Belle's, and I've never succeeded at making any chocolate pie that begins to approach it, but I hope to try your granny's recipe someday and I'll keep my fingers crossed!!! It certainly LOOKS as good as Ollie Belle's! Thank you so much! 😺💕🐾
That's exactly the recipe my mama made chocolate pie ever since I was little. And I'm 70 now. Everyone always begged her to make chocolate pie. I lost the recipe and now I have it thanks to you, praise God. Thank you. And mama used nothing but Watkins too. And I still do.
My grandma used to make chocolate pie just like this. She is 84 and she can’t remember things anymore. I’m thankful to now share this with my babies. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! 💕

Another tip. If you put some butter on either side of whatever you slice the meringue with, the butter will keep the meringue from sticking to the cutting instrument. Prettier slice of pie that way with no ragged edges to the meringue.

Wow! This tastes just like my grandmother's! Regrettably I didn't get her recipe before she passed but this tastes like the real deal! It's going to be my go to holiday pie now
I cannot believe that you also remove the white attached to the egg yolk before cooking!! My Mom and Nana taught me to always do this, too. But, you are the only cook on media that I see that still does this traditional preparation of ours! 🐣
I am impressed! That looks gorgeous and I know it tastes very good. Thank you for the demonstration.
I watched six recipes on here and yours by far is the best recipe I ever seen and tried. Thank you so so much. Who would’ve thought that you can microwave a chocolate pie filling. ❤
I use Wilton powdered meringue, 1 tbsp plus 2 tsp meringue powder, 1/2 c granulated sugar & 1/3 c cold water. Whip the powder & water in a mixing bowl with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add in sugar & whip until stiff peaks form. It’s safe to use right away without browning but I always brown mine and it’s absolutely delicious.

I buy it at Walmart in the Wilton section, near the party supplies. I think it’s around $4. Shelf stable. And delicious. You don’t have to worry about messing with egg whites.
Tammy, I do not have the strength to stand at the stove anymore and stir. Your (and your Mom’s recipe) for using the microwave is positively genius. The hint you gave about having it be thick is also fabulous. I just want to thank you so much. My waistline may not thank you very much 😉 but my whole family thanks you a whole bunch. Sending lots of love!❤
TAMMY!!! I made this pie and it came out fantastic!! It tastes just like my grandma Hogan's. I used a tablespoon from my flatware set just like you did and I also used 5 eggs and 5 egg whites. It was a vision of culinary beauty!! I cannot say thank you enough. You are amazing.

My mother always made a lemon meringue and chocolate meringue pies. Both are my favorite.
👏🏼💗🥰This one made me cry, remembering this among other amazing dishes at our cousins' annual church homecoming. That was some of the best of my childhood, & still today I've never found food to match it, but I believe this pie recipe hit the mark, thank you, I'm gonna try it!!!
I just made this pie for Thanksgiving. First time I have ever made a homemade pie...first time I have ever made meringue. I literally watched your video step by step while I was making it..and it was a hit! Thanks so much Tammy! My family thanks you as well.

I just made this pie and I can't wait to eat some. It reminds me of my Aunt Louise's Mile High Chocolate Pie. She made this pie every Christmas when I was a kid in the 70's. Her meringue was piled high hence the name. I dug up her old recipe and she used 4 egg whites and a cup of Marshmallow Creme to get the meringue so high. It still works! Thanks!

Beautiful pie
This reminded me of my Grandma. I used to stand at the stove as a child and watch her make this pie. And of course, as you said, she used regular spoons to measure, not actual measuring spoons. She always eye-balled measurements. Thank you so much for this video, it gave me such happy memories! Now if I could only find her fried chicken recipe. LOL I have never tasted anything like hers, and I have scoured the internet for it, no luck. It is the recipe my family mourns because nobody knows how to duplicate it, not even my mother who is an amazing cook and had most of her recipes.
I love your show. You and Chris make my day.
Thanks so much for sharing this. It looks just like my mother’s did. I lost her four months ago. I’m the only one of her five children who likes to cook so she and I had that in common. She was a wonderful cook and baker. 💜

Gorgeous pie! I'm making it!

I have found that the easiest way to get broken eggshell out of the egg whites is to use the broken shell to scoop it up. It just seems to magically adhere to it like a magnet and easy peasy to lift out.
Hello Tammy, I really enjoyed your video and tips, you are such a down to earth sharing person. I am 70 and when we were kids Grandmother always had a Chocolate Meringue pie waiting on us when we came to visit on the weekends. I have tried many recipes to duplicate her pie but either the ingredients were not right or I would overcook or undercook the pudding. Never thought about the microwave. My brother and I were talking the other day about how good Grandmother's Chocolate Pie was. Well he is coming for a visit the middle of the month and when he gets here Grandmother's Chocolate Pie is going to be in the refrigerator waiting on him, THANKS TO YOU! I will be trying your other recipes too. Mike
WOW 😮 WISH I HAD HAD A GRANNY WHEN I WAS A KID 👧 That looks AMAZING😜😋GOODJOB TAMMY 👩🍳🦩💗🦩
Your Granny's pie is almost the same as the one my Granny made...except she used half and half (from our own cows), and she use more cocoa powder (she liked a dark chocolate flavor, as do I.) I'm going to try her recipe, using your microwave shortcut. Your pie looks lovely and luscious!

Same here, almost the same as my Grandma. But she used almost double the cocoa powder and cream as it mimicked in the olden days the cream that cam on top of the milk. Vintage recipes are the best.
