Blend Door Actuator Fixed!! 2009-2014 Ford F-150

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, I show you how to fix a common problem with the blower door actuator on a 2010 Ford F-150 XLT. Here is the part that I installed into the truck. amzn.to/2f0Vgue
2003- 2008 Blend Door Actuator Ford F-150
amzn.to/2oVwtNh
2009- 2014 Blend Door Actuator Ford F-150 (THIS IS THE MODEL I USED)
amzn.to/2f0Vgue
2015- Present
amzn.to/2qvKL4s
Dashboard Plastic Remover Tool:
amzn.to/2pVlmUE
Standard Craftsman Socket Set I Use:
amzn.to/2z6UHo6
Metric Craftsman Socket Set I Use:
amzn.to/2Dh4pr5
Note: Make sure this fits within your model. I know its hard to find the parts sometimes, so I hope you use these links above as a guide to finding your actuator.
This F-150 would only blow cold air because the actuator for the blower door went out. Before I went this far to replace the part I started a few diagnoses: tested the air conditioner, went under the hood to see if the heater core hoses were hot, and check the internet if this was a common issue. Sure enough, every test lead to a faulty actuator.
The hardest part was jamming my hand through the glove box. In order to get to the 5/16in screw on the bottom, I had to go through the glove box while my left hand was in the dash to help assist. Once I got the screw out it was fairly simple.
Installing the new unit took a little bit of wiggling in there because the actuator and door need to be lined up. It can only fit one way. The gear is keyed for this reason. Once installed, connect the power cord, install the two screws that hold the unit down, and put the dash all back together.
This process took about 45 minutes to complete. After the install I was able to change from hot to cold with ease.

Good video and helped me replace the actuator in my 2010 Ford F-150 XLT. I would add that you need small hands to get in through glove box and on top of actuator. Also, tie string to your small wrench and back screw to keep it from losing it. Price of the part runs between $22-$3

Just wanted to say thank you for this video. It really helped me figure out how to get in there to get this cursed beast out of my vehicle and restore the heat. Just a helpful FYI for those who are still attempting this, the wiring harness in the glovebox needs to be popped out of place and moved down so that you can really fit your hand where it needs to go. And the tool that you'll likely need to fit in there is a simple small 5/16 box-ended wrench. (A ratcheting one would be best)

Just finished installing the actuator and I am happy to say, WE HAVE HEAT! One thing slowed the process, the gears didn't line up so contrary to the advice given to me at the Ford dealership, I did NOT "Stick a screwdriver in and force the gear to move". Just plug in the new actuator and turn the heat/ac knob until the gears line up. Easy fix. Thank you so much for posting this video!

Would it help with getting the correct shaft position to compare the old and new actuators before you install the new actuator. If not the same then manually move the new actuator to the same position as the old one. Then you should be able to align it to the correct position easier. At least you'd be starting closer to where you need it to be.

Just a tip, if it hasn’t been mentioned yet. To line the keys up on the Actuator; all you have to do is turn on the truck and slowly adjust the hot/cold knob until it pops into place. Make sure you have the blend door plugged in. And as for the radio console, all I unplugged was the upper plug and the plug on the right upper side. I left all the plugs on the bottom like the video. So to recap, get the blend door in the right orientation, then adjust the knob so it matches the key on actuator

Great video, love your straight forward style and high-speed….my problem is not hit or cold….it seems my front vents do not blow or at least not hard…in fact it seems to make no difference what location I set (eg. feet, vents etc) it seems to blow 80% at my feet and 20% everywhere else…..not sure this would fix it?

Couple of things to add to this video since I just finished the job on my 2010 F150. I don't think you needed to take off the bottom four bolts. I removed my radio some time back and did not remember doing that so I skipped that step and it still came out fine. I am glad you mentioned the part needing to be aligned before it goes back in. What I did was plug it in, turn on the ignition and AC and moved the temp selector switch until the gear on the new part was in the same position as the one I removed. Then it went in pretty easy. Well easier anyway - nothing about this small job is easy. Like you mentioned the hardest part is getting at that back bolt. Especially with my gorilla size hands. I ended up using a six point boxed end wrench which worked okay for getting it out, but I could not get it back in and lost it trying. So I just left it out all together and it seemed to be plenty tight with just the front bolt - I hope so anyway. Very helpful video.

I've recently had an issue where the heater in my 2014 F-150 will intermittently stop blowing heated air. It'll be working fine and then all of a sudden you can feel the air coming out of the vents start getting cooler and cooler. If I fiddle with it a bit, or turn the control panel off and back on it seems to start working again. Is this video the fix for this issue? I didn't see anywhere what the symptoms are for needing this repair, so I thought I'd ask.

It is hard to tell where and what the clicking noise is in your truck. Take a look at this video and listen to your car to see if it is in a similar location. If it is, then it may be the actuator. This actuator made some weird grinding and droning noises before it went out. Hope this helps! Good luck

The blower door actuator and blender door are two different words that describe the same thing. Have you tried your issue with the air conditioner on? I would try that to see if it is moving smoothly. Make sure to listen for the actuator when you are changing the temperature. If it skips really fast right when you move it to the far cold side that may be your issue. If that is not the case, something may be wrong with the cooling system.

GOOD INFO. i couldn't get to the back screw with my hands , so broke the tab off by lifting up and prying the actuator. Also, I plugged in the connector to the new actuator first before putting it in place because the blend door and actuator did not line up for easy placement. Turned car on and turned the temp knob a little. now new actuator dropped right in place.

Great video. My question is, if I can change the climate control to different parts(defrost, legs/defrost, whole cabin) and it cycles to each different section, is the blend door my issue? • @92813justin

    @92813justin

The blend door actuator changes the temperature of your cabin. There is a different actitud that changes where it is blowing. If it’s stuck at one temperature it’s most likely the blend door actuator (unless you’re heater core isn’t working). But with these f-150 it is typically the blend door

However as soon as I change the climate setting to anything else other than 'face only' (defrost, or face and feet) the clicking stops. Do you have any insight to what this particular issue is?
