Hi man, great informative video. I need some advice about retro fitting an RCD330 or 360 (360 more likely as prices are better rn) on my mk5 golf (06, 1.6 FSI). I’ve seen conflicting reports about battery drainage and if i would need another programmed canbus adapter. do you know if this is the case or will the steering wheel control adapter be enough to reduce this? thanks in advance!

I don't have any experience with the steering wheel controller but seen TRHamza do if in one of his videos to stop battery drain. For my car I changed the canbus gateway. So there are a few options..

Did you all get the brightness issue? That you can’t adjust it on a golf mk5. And every time you come back to the car it has low brightness? Is there a solution?

Does it work in the VW Amarok?

I have a MK5 Golf with steering controls too, do I need to do any additional works to make the steering controls work with the system? Do I need to do something with the Canbus gateway (I do not know what that is)? Can Spotify work with this system? Thanks! Great vid!

ragu siva I have this same head unit in my 2006 MK5 GTI and you need an adapter that connects with the main big plug behind the head unit to make steering controls work. Buy from eBay- search “ RCD330 Multifunction Steering Wheel Simulator Adapter Cable Fit For VW Golf 5 mo”

Not experienced any bugs, not sure what model it is but I'd guess 'no name' as 'desay' wasn't on the market at the time I bought mine. You won't experience bugs when using the radio's in built OS for calls/radio/Bluetooth. Android Auto can be a little buggy though - but I haven't used it in a long time so not fully sure.

Yes all speakers work and no other adapters needed simply plug and play. For Android auto your phone has to be plugged into the head unit using a USB cable.

Nope, if you want the best finish I'd say take your car to a place that does wraps and see if they can do it for you. I've also seen stickers on ebay not sure how good they are though.

Did you need to use the adapter it came with? Mine didn’t come with the double port for the aerial

Hi, Did you need to change the gateway? Because I have seen on some site that for the models before 2009 it is necessary to change it. I have a 2007 Golf 5 GTI. Thanks for your help

Yes, I had to change mine as my car is a 2005. I can't say for sure if you'll need a new one - only way to find out is by connecting VCDS and finding out what canbus the car currently has.

Mine was above the clutch pedal. Took me a good hour trying to get it out as it is awkwardly placed. If you try it you will eventually get it out. It is placed differently on different year cars I think

Does Spotify work with these? and if the golf is 2007, what does upgrading the Canbus gateway mean/involve?

It might need the Canbus gateway changed - 2007 might be okay. Changing it is straight forward just annoying as it is awkwardly placed and will need VCDS to code the new one. Never tried Spotify but Amazon Music works perfectly.

Spotify works great with CarPlay. The Canbus thing is a pain, but worth researching a solution. This head unit is awesome. Makes my mk5 Golf feel like a new car.

Can I put this into a vw polo 2010 S? Basic steering wheel and stereo and really want to upgrade. Will it work?

Not sure of there is a video, it runs maps through Android Auto or Apple Carplay which means your phone has to always be plugged in. Could be worth look up Android Auto/Carplay to get an idea.

Thinking of getting one but unsure due to it not being original Vw. Hows yours going after a couple years, would you recommend it? Thanks man

No issues all this time, but I changed my canbus to the latest revision when I fitted the radio.

@@RichipaIdi if you bought one and don't hook it up and it works right away without coding you got a PROBLEMO!! You got the right canbus there should be no battery drain or anyting straight plug and PLAY!! 😉

Hmm not came across that before, are your lights on the second position? Should light up with the rest of the interior buttons... only other thing I can think of is to find the pin for illumination on the plug and check it's getting power. 🤔

Yeah battery drain can happen, I updated my Canbus gateway to the latest revision so haven't had any issues. The cable might be worthwhile, I don't have any experience with them though.

Depends on what revision canbus you have, you might have to change your Canbus, some rcd330 sellers also sell an additional harness alongside to keep everything plug and play and stop battery drain without updating the canbus.

I installed the latest revision and re-coded the installation list. Yes Google Maps and Waze both work through Android Auto

There might be battery drain but you can change the canbus to avoid it, also a few other ways to stop battery drain.

Some cars need a newer revision Canbus to stop battery drain, with an 08 car you might be fine since it's one of the later cars. Yes you can play anything over Bluetooth, can play Spotify, KZread Videos etc ...

I want to do this to my Mk5 but everyone has battery drain issues Apparently you need a new canbus gateway and then u need to code it in with vcds. Annoying idk how to do it

Yeah I had to change my canbus gateway - it is annoying to do. Coding isn't too hard if you have VCDS. Canbus gateway itself is very awkwardly placed. I've heard of a few fusebox mods that stop the battery drain which are a lot easier.

@@HimiJ If yours is original equipment, didn't it ask for a password? When you plug in another device that is 2016 model and above, component protection problem arises. And authorized services want a lot of money for this?

I did a head unit install but, had to uninstall it because the radio kept having parasitic draw and killed my battery multiple times. Even with the car completely off, the radio stayed on.

This is common on Mk5s, you have to either change the Canbus Gateway to the latest revision or there is a fuse box mod you can do. If you search "mk5 battery drain" on Google you'll find more info

I had this same problem. I just got an electrician to rewire the unit from the battery to the ignition and that solved the problem. At the time, I didn’t know what the issue was and that it could be resolved with revised canbus.

Can you play music via USB? I want the best audio quality possible so i would like to use USB instead of bluetooth.

I'm not sure if you can plug a USB stick with music pre-loaded, but it also has an SD card slot so that might work

Can you add graphics for radio station logos? The original radio uses 2 aerial inputs, obviously for some good reason. The new one only uses one. What's the difference? And, does it make a difference which aerial lead from the car you used? (I'm assuming both have same connector) Thinking of getting one of these for a 2007 Caddy Thanks!

I've seen some people add graphics on other videos and online but no idea how easy it is or if it works. I've never had graphics in the time I've had the unit. I'm not an expert so not sure why there are 2 separate inputs, the unit did come with an adapter that takes two inputs and puts them into one - but the inputs didn't fit the adapter for me. That being said I'm only using one input and sound quality from the radio is better than the stock headunit.

Yeah prices have doubled since I bought mine - I think aliexpress is the cheapest place right now. Main advantage of these is the OEM look and feel, if that's important to you.

I think the DSGs have a multifunctional steering wheel. I don't, so yeah I have to touch the head unit - with this one there is a physical button to turn so can change it pretty easy.

@@HimiJ Yeah ive got it in my mk5, pretty decent but much better since I have the mf steering wheel. From what Ive seen none of the mk5 gtis have a mf steering wheel, unless its retrofitted, but they would still have the lowline mfd cluster. Which is why Im thinking about getting an R32 which does have the option of a mf steering wheel, and then fitting this head unit

Mf steering wheel is a nice addition, I'm sure I've seen GTI's with it could be wrong 🤔. R32 and GTI are two different beasts, trHamza just got one and it sounds crazy 👌🏼 Nothing like that built anymore 3.2 litre Vr6 in a Golf 😂

Don't think so - sound quality is a lot better when listening to radio in comparison to the stock unit. Another option could be to connect your phone via bluetooth and use a radio app.
