Best pistol of the 90s? Beretta 92 M9 - Nutnfancy

Ғылым және технология

The Beretta 92/M9 series of pistols have achieved greatness that can never be taken away. These pistols have served law enforcement and military members faithfully for decades. The video will start with a reminder of how limited go to war pistol options really were in the 1980s. The Beretta 92 was among them. Featured in the movie "Lethal Weapon" prominently and in competent fashion, the Beretta 92 was also rightfully embraced by civilians.
For home defense, personal protection, training/recreation, WROL, and more, the 92 still remains an outstanding choice. Yes it's heavy but so is the P226 which is another Hall of Famer here. It represents its era. The Beretta 92/M9 features never-let-you-down reliability, durability, and superb accuracy [shown here]. The Berettas are fabulously fun to shoot with a near perfect single action trigger, on par with the P226. The girth of the grip and the slide mounted decocker/safety will have to be adapted to.
The M9 and I go back a long way. It served with me for 21 years as my primary carry weapon as a pilot in the USAF. I competed with the M9 in combat shooting competitions as well. With used 92s now available on the market and the gun now achieving 2nd Cool status as collectible and nostalgic pistol, now might the right time to add one to the collection. It is a wise purchase if the price is right.

It's too bad that this generation doesn't even know about Leathal Weapon & Die Hard. Just how Bad-Ass the Beretta 92 appeared in those movies. Full action usage to which there still is no equal on film. It was literally a life changing experience. I Lusted over that gun as a kid. Also check the 92's return in Sicario 2 (2018)

Did y'all know that Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis carried the exact same 92FS? Same serial number and everything. The weapon company that issued it was used for both films and Die Hard started filming days after Lethal Weapon finished. That specific serial numbered Beretta used in both films is in a Museum now.

I agree CTK. To me, a Glock is like holding a 2 x 4 on its edge and looking down its length. Its the ugliest thing. A Beretta has the rolls and sleekness in Italian design. If we're gonna spend money on a moral patch, and a moral snack for the pack then why strap a depressing buzz kill on our belts, capable of scattering a heard of cattle from just one glance w/out firing a shot. Just kiddin' of course. I own both but the Beretta is my favorite.

I love my M9A1. It is great. Accurate, reliable, fits my hand great. I fixed the problem of the safety by converting it to a G model. And anyone who complains about the DA/SA probably can’t shoot. Thanks for the update! I understand the advantages of the polymer guns, but I have my M9A1 as my GTW pistol. And I don’t care what anyone thinks, I like it. (I also CC’d it AIWB for the past year. I know that doesn’t means anything on the internet, but with a good belt and holster the weight isn’t a big deal for EDC.)

Maybe not the most practical handgun ever by today's standards but... one of the most aesthetically pleasing. Beautiful from every angle. It's a curvy Italian work of art. But it's no cupcake. It's a battle beast too. Durable as hell. A movie star in it's own right. Talk about a game changing firearm. The Beretta 92 is definitely that.

  • @kevinp5325

    @kevinp5325

I don't understand that criticism of the Beretta (the practicality aspect). It can easily hold 17 rounds, more with aftermarket magazines. It offers a variety of options (manual safety vs decocker only, different slide types, different barrel lengths, different grip configurations), It's proven and reliable. The only real disadvantage the 92 has over its contemporaries is weight, though that can be an advantage for recoil. The Sig P226 and 1911 weight about as much, in some cases more...so its not like the 92 is vastly different in terms of weight compared to other fullsized all metal pistols. Also pistol weight is vastly overemphasized by the firearms community. Most front line warfighters aren't carrying pistols; they carry rifles and lots of spare ammo. For EDC, the added weight is perfectly acceptable with the appropriate carry method.

@@jeffel80 I doubt you could quantify that difference in terms of response time. I'm just pointing out that a lot of people, to include Nutnfancy, point to the Sig P226 as a proven, modern go-to-war pistol, but then seem to dismiss the beretta as being too big, too heavy and too outdated. It has very similar dimensions compared to the Sig and has been around for just as long.

I am amazed how smooth it is every time I shoot it. Not crazy about the mag catch location, but it was a NOS gun with zero signs of use for 290 bucks from SOG. Nothing I'm going to carry, nor my first choice for SHTF, but a great handgun. The fit, finish, and machine work on mine is top notch and I have a very large pistol collection. It's up there at the top.

My second handgun I ever bought was a 92FS in '89. As much as I hate to admit it, i was "influenced" by Lethal Weapon and Die Hard (how could you not be). It was very easy to shoot well and it never had a failure. As time went on I did leave it behind for other handguns (mostly Glock and other polymer framed pistols). I recently bought a M9A3 and I have to say that is about as good as it gets for a 92/M9 (not counting Wilson versions). It's like I have been reunited with an old friend.

john panoulias lol and why would that be. Do you really think that the retarded 19x is better than a gen 3 or gen 2 glock. In case you didn't catch the memo Glocks have basically the same for 30 years. Love my Glocks but the 19x might be the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Should be a Glock 17 slide on a 19 frame

Well, I dont disagree with you, however, I understand why they released it. They are stuck with a huge loss they invested into the design for the US army. It lost. Now they are trying to see if the civi's want it. The thing is, after seeing sootch's video of him shooting it, I am impressed in the lack of muzzle flip. Now, I am not going to go buy one, but I wouldn't necessarily bash somebody who did either.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I was an MP at Bragg when we turned in the M1911's and was issued the M9's, early 88 I think. The significant points I remember was, one we were all sad giving up our 1911's. Second, we had several cracked slides on our first qualification. My EDC is a Dan Wesson 1911 ECO and I could still pick up an M9 and rock-n-roll because it's the same as picking up an AR, a good friend who slept beside you many a night.

I got a used Beretta 96 that was kinda rough, used hard but still shoots great, I put all new springs in it and a few other things and just turned it into my truck gun! I leave it under the seat with little concern what happens to it but I will say it has one feature that I seriously love, it is possibly the easiest caliber change on a gun I’ve ever seen, simply swap the barrel and that’s it, it’ll work with the same magazines and everything so for me it’s great to switch between 9mm and .40 s&w whenever I feel like it. So in the end I’m not saying it’s the best gun ever, I don’t even really like the way they look but I’ve dragged it the through the woods and anywhere else, dropped in the occasional mud puddle and gone well over a thousand rounds without cleaning and have not had the gun fail, I just like it.

A great pistol, then and now. More accurate than the average person can shoot. Very reliable. Well made. I had one in the Corps. I had one while working in Afghanistan. Put thousands and thousands of rounds through it. All kinds of rounds. US military issue ball. IMI ball. Remington, Winchester and Federal ball. Two or three kinds of steel cased Russian ball ammo. It fired them all without a hitch. The magazines were very well made and reliable, too. We would even do drills, firing standing unsupported at plastic "Ivan" targets at 100 meters. You could easily put 8-9 rounds out of 15 on the target at that range with boring regularity.
