    I been carrying my beratta M9 now for 12 years and I love it. Yes it's a bit heavy but the assurance I get from it is worth it to me. Yes it's long and bulky but to me peace of mind if i need a weapon to defend myself this is what I want on my hip vrs one of my pocket guns. If someone comes into my home this is what's on my nightstand. I feel extremely safe with this weapon. Great gun great video..

    Love my 92FS I've solved weight issue with carrying it...the best holster ever thought of is the belly band holster I purchased. I don't have to wear a belt, I can wear sweatpants, shorts or whatever. It's totally comfortable and I can put it in any position basically and conceals very nicely actually I can barely see it. It also holds it pretty snug, and carry 2 extra mags if I so choose to. I totally recommend a belly band holster for a full size or any size for that matter if you like to wear loose fitting clothing...nice review though :)

    @Tone4Yeshua hi I switched to a shoulder holster and i love it it's awesome. Just wear a light shirt over it in summer. I just got the ruger security 9 and I carry that now too also shoulder holster. I never knew these shoulder holsters would be so comfortable and if your in a sitting position like driving I can have it out in under 2 seconds.

    I'm 53 years old and have wanted one since I was a teenager, but there were always other priorities....until I gave my home defense shotgun to my nephew last month. Suddenly, I had a solid justification to buy one. Now I find waiting for the 12-day "cool off" period to end, reminds me of being a kid waiting for Christman. tee hee!

    Great review though the written one is even better: it reminds me of a Car and Driver article. The first time I shot a 92, I didn't take it too seriously since, even though I was quite fond of its appearance as a child, as an adult it looked to me like a museum piece. Nonetheless, when I rented it and took it out onto the range, I was amazed at how comfortable it felt in my XL hands, compared to the plastic guns I had been shooting, and the visibly improved tightness of my groups. Most importantly was the complete lack of snappiness: it's as if the majority of the shock is absorbed into some blackhole hidden deep inside its frame while the remainer is distributed evenly in small batches throughout its cycling. It still impresses me today when I shoot any other handgun, including its classic Wonder 9 rivals. Long story short, my EDC is a 92X Compact. Awhile back I brought a fairly new shooter to the range and let her try out a SIG P-226. She remarked that she didn't like how far back the trigger broke in its travel (in SA; she didn't bother with the DA). While I like good triggers I'm not exactly a trigger snob, but comparing both pulls next to those of the 92 I had with me, I noticed that the SIG trigger appeared to break at a very distinct point in SA as opposed to DA, whereas the 92's breaks were at roughly the same spot. Later I found a Wilson Combat KZread video praising the 92 on precisely this point. That leaves me to wonder if the overtravel you are witnessing is an artifact of Beretta perhaps trying to maintain such a consistency. Fortunately (sic.) I do not have a stock 92FS trigger on hand, and the stock 92X DA pull is as smooth as glass and I don't notice any movement in the sights with proper technique. On a ranting note, I imagine TDA pistols would have remained more competitive with striker-fired handguns if companies had decided to make significant improvements to the DA pulls before their market share evaporated (some credit goes to SIG though for getting an early start). I understand that TDA perfection requires hand polishing, but in the 92X Beretta simply switched to the D hammer spring and installed an LTT-like trigger bar (only on the more recent productions) for a night-and-day improvement. Apparently the 80X will have a 5.5 - 6lb DA and a 3-3.5lb SA, so it seems like they have finally gotten the picture

  • @HipsterTactical

    Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. Interesting take on the "breaking point" of the 92's trigger. It does seem to let off slightly "earlier" in the DA stroke... maybe that is a function of trying to maintain that consistent break point between SA and DA. The thing that always surprises me is how I experience ZERO sight bounce with Smith & Wesson 3rd gens. There's definitely some difference in how the lockwork is releasing the energy... I'm thinking it's mainly over travel. But maybe there's other factors at work, too? And I think part of my issue is small hands; if I could get more finger around the trigger shoe, it would probably far less noticeable. In any case... interesting points. Thanks!

    Thank you so much for the comment! Yep, it's tough to be a Beretta 92 for all-around shootability. I know I don't have to tell you that. At some point I'd like to get another Beretta 92 as a platform to have all the "latest and greatest" features (maybe a 92X compact?). Though my plan is to keep this one as is. It's a classic. Also... Back in my 1911 phase, before the light shone down from heaven, opening my eyes and my mind as to what a clumsy, clunky, high-maintainence hunk of miserable junk the 1911 is, and right at about the time when the M9 officially became the U.S. military sidearm, and I was absolutely positive that it was the worst military blunder since Custer's last stand, I got to talking with this fellow at the local pistol range who was blasting hell out of the 10x ring with a 92F. I asked how he liked it. He loved it, of course. He showed me all the mechanics of it and the ease of field stripping compared to the 1911. He loaded a few in the magazine and told me to 'give her a dance'. It fit my large hands like it was an actual body part. I plopped all 5 shots in the black of a 25 yd. Bullseye target. I was sold. Dumped my last 1911 some 25 or 26 years ago and haven't touched one since. Absolutely love the 92FS !!

    Haha! This is priceless. Personally, I didn't have the context/experience coming from the 1911 like you... but... regardless... "shooting is believing" when it comes to the 92. The thing puts rounds exactly where you want them. There's no guesswork. No unexpected flyers. You never feel like you have to "fight" the gun getting rounds on POA. That's not to say I don't shoot other guns accurately. But... the unique sense of connection the 92 offers is truly something special. The Walther P5, for me, also delivers a similar experience (got a review on that, if you're interested). In any case... thanks so much for the hilarious, insightful and eloquently expressed sentiment!

    The Beretta 92 is like a Katana among handguns, the feel and harmony in form and handling is just right. A beautiful handful of grace. My relatively small hands still prefers it over the fantastic 1911 and even the Hi Power, both epic beauties all in their own realm. Smooth action, good trigger, awesome ergonomics. Italian here, so deeply biased - and pleased with this video. Have buy one piece and tried (obviously) Glock 17, 19 and 22 - no problem with .40 but bumps my middle with trigger guard (OUCH!); then i turned my eye to Beretta because oldtimer and leery on lack of external safeties and striker fire guns (know are safe but told i'm oldtimer, right?): shooting Beretta was like talking to an old friend (used one in my twenties as airman) and gonna get me one.

I think the 92 will always be my "benchmark" gun. It shoots sooo well. And, I actually agree with about safeties on striker-fired guns. Glocks are too bad... some with some striker guns, the trigger just seems too light to go without a safety. Maybe I'm an old-timer, too :) Thanks again!

I agree--the Smith 3rd gens have the most shootable DA triggers of all the DA/SA guns I've tried. But it's hard to beat a 92 or a PX4 in single action. And I do like me some old school Sigs as well. When I went thru MP school at Ft. Mclellan, Alabama in 1986 we were trained with the 1911A1 government Model .45. The Army had at the time committed to the change to the Beretta M9 as the military designated it but they had not gotten into the logistics system when I was there. I now own both guns and I would prefer the Beretta between the two if I had to have one issued to me. That being said as a guy with a fair amount of experience in the matter I believe the British are better armed as far as service pistols go now, as they have the Glock 17 while we have some SIG piece of crap. I personally feel they had the better gun when they had the hi-power and we had the 1911 too being that I own all four and and have experience carrying three out of the four in harms way. I do really really like the Beretta though. It is a very nice handgun and It would be close behind a Glock in my choices.

    Thanks again for offering all your insights on these guns--it's always interesting to hear from someone who has actual duty experience. Based on my personal experience... I feel like the 92 would be the preeminent choice for a hard-use duty pistol. It's reliable, proven, very shootable, accurate, safe. I don't love the DA trigger as much as some other DA/SA makes... but... it shines in just about every other way. I have no illusions that Glocks are tough and reliable... but I personally find them difficult to shoot with any degree of precision. Thanks again!

    You mentioned the difficult double action with this, gun. Reminds me of my HK P30L with a long and hard double action. After pulling the trigger about a mile with 400lbs of pull it eventually shoots. Much better in single action. Actually though I kind of like the double action as it's a safety of sorts. I feel confident that there is no way that I would shoot it by mistake when grabbing it in the middle of the night. Seems like this is similar? The 92fs seems like an interesting gun. Really artsy looking as well.

  • @HipsterTactical

    @HipsterTactical

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's exactly why I prefer double action for concealed carry. It's super safe with the gun decocked, in DA. There's really no way you're gonna accidentally pull the trigger that way. Now, do you give up a little precision/accuracy on your first shot? Yeah. I think that's probably the case for most people. But it's worthwhile tradeoff in my opinion. Plus, once the gun transitions to single action... you get a trigger that's a lot easier to shoot accurately than most striker fired guns. In my opinion, of course. My only complaint about the Beretta 92 is that its DA trigger is a bit tougher to control than some other guns--even though the single action is heavenly. My Smith & Wesson 5906 probably has my favorite double action pull of all my DA/SA guns. But I don't think it shoots quite as well in single action, compared to the Beretta 92. So... pros and cons to everything, I suppose. Thanks so much for the comment! And that's awesome you've got a P30L! I've had a few HKs, but I always come back to Sigs and Berettas. But I'm sure with that long slide and barrel the P30L shoots incredibly well.

    @@HipsterTactical thanks for your response. And yes I’m a Sig fan too actually. I love my Sig P220 legion in 10mm. That’s one of my never-sell guns, like my Dan Wesson 1911, or my Colt king cobra, because it’s all metal, hefty, hammer fired, just has that classical feel. The Beretta as you have described it seems to bring it all together in that regard. I will definitely have to test fire one for sure. As for the p30l, yes it’s soft and pleasant to shoot, with ergonomics to die for. Once it’s in your hand, it’s feels and shoots amazing, even though as a polymer gun it will just never actually inspire my soul like the classical style ones. Thanks so much for watching and for the comment! Yeah, I feel like the DA pull on guns is subjective. I don't the Berettas are unmanageable, by any means--personally, I just get more movement with the front sight on Berettas than I do compared to Smiths and Sigs. And I think it might have something to do with the fact I have pretty small hands; I can't get "in front" of the trigger as much as I'd like to, in DA. Thanks again for the comment!

The 12lb spring from Wilson is a good option… I probably should have mentioned that in the video-though I did cover it in the written review. The lighter spring definitely helps. But I still feel like Beretta DA triggers are more challenging than some-mainly because of the overtravel.
