In all fairness, I think what he probably meant to say was Seiko, not their higher end Grand Seiko. You can definitely get a really good Seiko dive watch for less than $1000.

The closest thing to a Grand Seiko is a Marine Master 300 which will run you about $2500. It has an undecorated, unregulated 9S55 Grand Seiko movement and also zaratsu polishing on the case.

The guy that bought the Rolex 50 years ago didn’t look at it as an investment. It was by accident of history that his watch was worth so much. If he had bought an equivalent amount of Walmart stock at that time, for instance, his return would almost triple-fold.

If he had bought an equivalent amount of Walmart stock at that time it would have been a neat trick since I got a "hot tip" about Walmart in 85 or 86, and like a dummy thought the kid that told me didn't know what he was talking about- this is around the time of the IPO. Also missed the boat on Amazon IPO, which was around $35 and actually didn't move a whole lot in the first couple years.

Well kevin needs to understand the english language. He was asked a direct question, he needed to give a direct answer, not go another route and avoid the question. If u ask me what watch is a worthy option below $1k, i will tell you all day Christopher Ward..

Under a thousand, i would go for a Seiko, Orient, Tissot or a Hamilton.

The best $1000 watch you can buy is one that you'll love. You don't need to make a $1000 into an investment. Most of them won't be, and the ones that will be an investment probably won't suit your needs. If you want to invest, stocks will give you better returns than any watch under $10k.

Now you know my cheep watch secret. If I got 7k it's going into my Roth I don't buy watches over 500 it's a waste of money. No watch will give you a 12% return on your investment. So if you find a watch you can buy for say 50K and in 10 years sell it for 155K then buy it fast. But most likely your being took... Now if you believe this 50k watch will give you 155k of enjoyment then go and buy it, but it doesn't make it a smart buy it just means you have a great deal of money and no place to put it. Personally I would recommend St. Jude Children's Hospital.

I can tell you. I just bought a Hamilton Pilot Pioneer. $700. The reissue of the W10. Best every day watch I’ve ever owned. All this stuff about movements. That hamilton’s ETA is losing about -1 sec per day. It’s great. It’s retro. It’s awesome. And a conversation piece.

Don’t think of watches as investments, unless you’re spending over 5 figures it won’t appreciate much- much smarter investing it elsewhere. As a watch, the regular lunar pilot is not only better looking- but a third of the price. If you truly like both the watch and the history it provides. Simply go for the regular model!

I don't understand why so many people dislike Kevin....I watch all his videos not surrounding business and he seems like a really nice guy...it seems like it would be a pleasure to have a conversation with him.

I bought a Jacob and Co ACM3 with a nicely finished Valjoux 7750 movement for $1000. That is a funky chicken no lose proposition in my book. Some other great options are brands like Squale, but they will not appreciate like KOL is looking for. Most of the time though, you need to spend about $3000 minimum to get into a luxury watch. Rolex and Patek are the safest brands to buy for investment sake.

I also don't understand people who are 'into mechanical watches', and then talk endlessly about accuracy; while obviously important, you get better accuracy from quartz watches at a fraction of the price. GS produce a quartz-mechanical hybrids, with an uglier logo than a regular Seiko.

Grand Seiko is not available for 1000 dollars .The entry level GS costs 2000 dollars.

I prefer vintage omega watches, they go up every year and are easy to sell, they are pricey when purchased new but you can get old ones for a $3-500 and still flip them very easy almost guaranteed, longines have a few entey level watches that are around $1200 and they are so so sellers.

GS under 1k. You'd have to find a highly motivated seller. The evicted type of motivation who once had the capacity to buy it in the first place. A needle in a hay stack.

Not the most helpful answer really recommending Grand Seiko. I guess for $1000 or under perhaps the Seiko SPB143 62Mas. Swiss watch wise I think the Certina DS Action Diver despite being 43MM is great value but I’m a dive watch nut 👍

My best investment watches are my Seiko's as they almost all hold value if they are popular models like the skx or flightmaster and then it's my expensive ass watches. Not the mid tier brands like Hamilton and my Victorinox or my gshocks

I also only have ownership experience of SKX’s, turtles, baby tunas and most recently a Sumo Black which have cheap movements in them and perform shockingly on a timegrapher. My real usage goes to my Omega collections including the 8800 & 8900 with the new escapement. Zero beat error, +/- 1sec a day in real life use... that would take some beating...

Tissot hands down best bang for your buck entry level luxury $1000 area ..if you're looking for a great Swiss watch with roots reputation & history etc. Affordable quality plain n simple .

GS 9F is accurate, 9 S mechanical, may be more accuratre than AP and PP.

Longines charge a lot to service. That's the sucker punch. Usually this isn't factored in when calculating how it holds value. But when you do, they're a lousy investment.

NOMOS watch .. Club 38mm … till 1500-2000 USD strap/stell .. high qualitiy ,mechanic,manufacture and absolute beautiful .. what do you want more

Grand Seiko for a G? Cheapest I've seen was $1000 US or 1250 CAD used for one of their super obscure quartz pieces and that was a one off. To honesty get into GS you're looking at 5G+ to start

3k for their quarts sports models new. I actually think they look really cool because the movement is still done very well and they grow their own quartz. but def a long way off from 1k. At 1k there is really no such thing as an invest emend watch but if you get something used hopefully it retains most of its value

@@icalexander that’s a great looking model I know what one your talking about. I have actually been thinking about getting a GS quartz watch for my next purchase to mix things up. All my other watches are automatic, I love automatic watches but would wear a quartz as long as it’s unique and fits the watch. I think that’s definitely the case with these. I was hoping my next watch would be an Rolex OP 41 but I have been trying to get one from the only AD in my state since they first came out last year to no avail. Getting real sick of it so I think a GS would scratch my itch as a classy but sporty watch.

There is no such thing as a sub $1000 “investment watch.” Any watch at that price point is simply not an heirloom piece and should not be expected to appreciate or even retain value. And a Grand Seiko costs way more than $1000.

Don’t bother with a grand Seiko. YES they make great watches with great movements but the second hand market is far lower than retail. Bang for your buck sure but so you want to lose 30% of your money off the bat? It’s similar to omega. Never buy new unless you are getting 20-30% off.

I think he meant a regular Seiko. A GS is more than $1k.

Same, functionally wise it’s just better and doesn’t touch smart watches. However a smart watch cant match an old watches build quality and prestige, software eventually has an expiration date while the hardware on some of theses watches have lasted over a century. Even though I daily wear my smart watch, when dressing up for a special occasion I need a WATCH on my wrist.

It's possible. Vintage GS is under a G. Used SBGX 9F quartz pieces can be had if ordered from Japan. But in general, GS is much more expensive.

The grand seiko Nissan gtr watch is my dream watch.

O'Leary is correct that the watches that appreciate in price are Rolex, AP, Patek, and FP Journe. Add to that some Omegas imho. Everything else depreciates. Also there is no answer for an investment watch under $1,000 so he dodged that stupid question. It starts with a vintage Rolex Datejust or OP at $3,000+.

The Seiko Sarb033 and 035 used to sell at $300 and now can go for $600. There are plenty of watches like this that are decent for under $1000 and have the potential to appreciate, or at least hold their value.

Tissot Le Locke for dress and Seiko mini turtle for other occasions and you’re set for 1K!
