I actually like the whole "find a symbol to open the door" mechanic. Notice she never actively tries to push open the door beforehand. She physically CANNOT until she finds matching symbols. A big part of psychosis and schizophrenia is pattern recognition, finding links to things that don't have links, and the inability to complete a task because of imaginary barriers to overcome. The doors were open the entire time. There was no magic blocking the path, only her own mind.

I love how it's like pat and woolie are just two more of senua's voices

I think the worst thing you could say about her is that she doesn't actually _do_ much. She has the same "vaguely sinister, but inactive and generally inoffensive" thing that Hades does, but with a cooler aesthetic.

L.A. Noire but instead of clues, you look for viking runes. Sorry, sometimes you need to shake yggdrasil to see what falls out.

Ok but for real though, this game looks amazing. Like, story-wise alone this looks so fascinating, I am so drawn into it and honestly want to see more.

I love that scene from mummy too, when he started talkin' in hebrew / yiddish mummy said "ooh language of the slaves" so hilarious.

Decided to come back and finish watching this, and I gotta say, good job Ninja Theory, you managed to make a game that's pretty damn good.

There was a great character in the Starship Troopers animated movie, a dude that had a tattoo for every single religon. They'd always ask him, "Which one is gonna save you today?" and he'd just point to a couple of them. Gotta cover all your bases.

I don't know why there's so much hate for the game that's priced at $30. It's a puzzle game with combat, with a good premise and detail. Maybe everybody is salty that it's backed by Ninja Theory, and don't like walking from place to place.

its simple, its an ultra linear walking simulator with very generic and never changing combat mechanics its about 10 bucks to expensive for what it actually is for you americans and 30 too expensive here in brasil

Maioly the combat is deep enough with a little challenge. Detailed combat would feel bad for a game that is inspired by psychosis. I enjoy the journey of the story and voices you hear. A game this good looking is fine at 30.

You know your opinion is totally valid and the only part i disagree with is the "walking from place to place part" why would i pay for that if i already do that in real life ? Now all salt apart from this, i believe Ninja Theory is capable of making great games, they just need to stop putting "art" before "game" when they make a videogame.

So far this game looks pretty solid. I don't expect this game to be boundary pushing for the genres that it represents, but rather a journey for the player to undergo. Games are technically art, which means that it's subjective. People have certain taste to what makes a game great. Story, Gameplay, Replay Value, "FUN". They want to play a game that can justify their time/payment towards it. I haven't read too much into Ninja Theory after the whole Devil May Cry Remake shitstorm (I'm a fan of the originals yet have a neutral respect towards the 2013 release for what it offered gameplay wise, but would've prefer it be called something else) but based on this alone, they learned to best stick with something original and invest in quality time for development in order to provide a solid experience.

The comments here seem exceedingly hostile about this game. It looks perfectly fine. It's not incredible in terms of gameplay, but if you just want a neat story with very simple gameplay, it's fine. I think it has good presentation.

This is why I said it was a bad idea to do a vid on this. This is not a game to watch. It is specifically designed in that most of it's content is only experienced actually playing the game. You're not going to get shit watching because all you are waiting for is combat.

King of the Moon everyone complaining about the game probably thinks you either need 2000 mechanics and overly complex systems to make a game fun, or just hate Ninja Theory for Enslaved/DmC. Games ok, like 6/10. Would probably only recommend if you dig Norse mythos and/or slow, heavy combat.

When I saw that monument with the moving textures, I was totally thinking of Silent Hill 3 right before Pat mentioned it. *Bond with Pat has increased.*

This game feels like a weird ancient Nordic version of Sesame Street. "Can you find the letter 'dæg' in this room? Great job!"

I just realised... Senua has the ability to see the Hunter's Mark from Bloodborne.

Surt's fight was one of the highpoints of the game for me. Just the buildup, and then the music playing, and the new mechanic that you have to figure out for yourself.

You know what is really nice, having blur motion on and turn 360 every 3 seconds, it's gets really good through the video. thanks Wools :)

Billy you ask which is best girl, but don't give me any choices that are even Mildly reasonable.

I was a little luke-warm on this game, it looked interesting, but the puzzles weren't really grabbing me... ... And then the music started on that boss-fight... FUUUUUUCK, I'm getting this game!

Fun fact? That guy they kept saying was photorealistic IS actually live-action. They shot a guy in costume in front of a green screen and composited him into the game. All humans in this game except for Senua herself are live-action, but the effects used are so effective that it's completely seamless.

You can see what they're doing with the combat voices. They're making it so you can trust those voices when you're in combat. Later on, they will DEFINITELY either betray you, or tell you to do something that leads to a bad ending.

Good ol' salty comments from people who haven't actually played the game and think anything with a decent story is pretentious. I do so love the internet!

The beginning is a good introduction to the game's use of binaural audio but Surtr is also a fantastic use of it. In the game with headphones when you activate the fire sacrifices, it's terrifying. Loud screaming crosses your ears and as you run you hear the wails and suffering of people all around you. It's so good.

It's always amazing to me how finely tuned the human brain is at recognizing faces and reality that we can immediately tell the difference between almost-real CG and actually real video of people. It happened in Avatar. The technology is very, very good, but unless CG gets way more convincing, it still won't trick the brain into believing that these CG people you're seeing are real.

At 17:57 in the doorway This game just got super fucking spook. Hats off to the guys behind DmC to rebound pretty good with a game more focused on their strengths as writers rather than forgettable combat.

I hate to break it to you guys, but the sequences with Druth, as well as Senua's parents and husband are all live-action layered over the gameplay. The reason Druth looks more real than Senua is because they just recorded the actor wearing that costume and layered lighting effects over it. I wish somebody could achieve cgi animation that lifelike, but this is not that. Still some damn fine animation on Senua.

That freaky shaman dude who fades in and out of reality referred to a group of god called "the devourers." The original word for the giants of Norse mythology, "jotun" roughly translates to eater or devourer (which might explain why that guy changed "titan" to "eotan" on the crunchyroll subs of "AoT," they are giant devourers). The word giant came to replace jotun once english started moving into nordic regions along with Christianity. This is why jotun are often thought of as beings of great size. While many of them were as large as mountains, they weren't necessarily any larger or smaller than a man, though they could often change forms as well.

Aloy is my favorite current but PS1 Lara was awesome back in her time.

Yes! I'm glad Pat noticed that this game uses pretty much the same effect as Silent Hill 3 sometimes.

Druth is actually an FMV with post-processing affects filtering the appearance to give him a more "ethereal" look. Or so, I think...

Taking Surt's path technically sequence breaks the game in that you were supposed to obtain that runic mirror on Senua's belt from Druth in the other path.

I love that from the time of this recording to now (August 11th) DMX went BACK to being in jail.

17:40 Woolie talking about how it'll be easier to find the X while the entire left side of the screen is filled with that X, which he somehow misses, was painful to watch.

The game is a walking simulator with puzzles an 8 year old on crack cocaine can do with his eyes closed, the combat is boring, the visuals aren't that great, its just woodlands with some blur here and there. The story isn't anything new either and has been done multiple times before. Sound might be nice but it's just a niche pick.

Creature: The Woolie Element: Earth Elemental weakness: Fire The Woolie, or the Shout of Earth as the Northmen call, is weak to fire due to its flammable dreads. It does not share well, shooing away the little ones that seek its control, even when they ask nicely.

The irish guy sounds exactly liie morkvargg from the witcher 3 "Noooo not again! Im so hungry!!"

I think Woolie only blocked twice: when first figuring out the controls, and figuring out if there's a parry. I think that might have some correlation with Hideki Kamiya's block button allergy.
