    Go watch ninja theory's diary on this game. They created it in 3 years with 13 people and a $300k budget, compared to other aaa games made in 2 years, $100 million dollar budget with hundreds of workers. Ninja theory had only one programmer. Imagine if they had the staff and money of other aaa games.

    The main issue here is the deadline... developers tend to rush their deadlines because of the greedy companies that probably have nothing to do with the development of the game other than the transactions section. These companies rushed what was supposed to be another year of development and the result is a buggy game with stale and shitty progression system.

    games sucks when publisher push deadline to their throats. this is the reason Ninja Blade make Hellblade, because they trying to prove all those indie games out there dont need publisher money to make a great game, it was self funded and the marketing was done by their own community. If they do, it might add some greedy moves at the end like No Man's Sky before all those patches. Hellblade could've been the next No Man's Sky case if Ninja Theory took huge money from Sony or some triple A publishers. and most importantly, No Man's Sky was indie game too, with little bit of Triple A look, similar to Ninja Theory's target on Hellblade, a game between Indie Genre and Triple A.

    Semper Fidelis No, I'll say what I want, when I want, why I want to whom I want. I've preserved that right from my time overseas. Don't like it? Tough shit. Secondly, what story did the game have? A crazy Celt tried to get into Helheim. Wow, that's called a "character's background", not a plot or a story. Nice try, though.

    @@gamerdad5363 I think it's very dependent on the quality of your headphones as well. In the Behind The Scenes they showed the recording sessions for the voices and they basically have a room microphone which picks up all the audio location inside the recording room while the voice actors moved. Now if you have headphones that can stay true to that level of detail, then the voices will be more helpful as well.

    If anyone’s concerned about the game length, in this kind of heavy intense story, with psychosis and voices in her head, you can’t really go much more than eight or nine hours. It’s very linear for a reason. I suspect more than that will turn off gamers. It’s a great ride while you’re on it, but it doesn’t need to be longer. It is the perfect length for a great story

With that being said, it's definitely not for those with fragile minds. The voices and the scenery are incredibly influential that even after playing it you feel like you're mentally Ill yourself. If you enjoy knowing and experiencing the human experience, you'll absolutely love this.

You got ninja theory trying to give people a premium tripple A experience for half the price of shadow of war, with no micro transactions that makes gameplay easy to make more money but simply cause they love making games for the joy of it, putting their games out there without being greedy pricks.

    I loved this game. Easily top 10 of my favorites. I think personally the length is very appropriate because, I’m sure a lot of people could agree when I say the amount of stress and just utter “get me out of here” feelings you get throughout the game makes it feel much longer and panic-like than 7-8 hours. It’s a really moving game that walks you through what someone with insane psychosis goes through when trying to not only beat their own demons, but also learn to let go of their loved one, all the while their mind, in some cases body, and even spirit are fighting against them. It’s honestly an underrated work of art

    My grandmother suffered from schizophrenia and I am so happy that there finally a something in the media that represents these people as people instead of crazy monsters that will kill you at the drop of a hat. More often than not in the real world, those who suffer from a form of psychosis are VICTIMS of violence rather than the other way around. To them, what they're experiencing is real. It's the way the outside world treats them that makes them feel ostracized and crazy; which usually leads to the psychosis becoming worse. This game's price tag starts at $30 which means it's going to go down. At six hours that means you're paying $5 per hour. The average movie is 2 two hours and most theater tickets are $7-10. You can't put a price on art.

    Matthew Davis Sadly this is the case with mental illness in general. People hear those words and immediately associate it with someone in a straight jacked locked up for everyone's safety. All the while someone close by, like a friend or relative, might be mentally ill without anyone even noticing. And you're right. I, for example, have to keep quiet about my condition in fear of: not being able to find a job, getting fired, scaring away friends or simply not mentioning it to anybody because "everything you say,can and will be used against you" I for one look forward to playing this game. And if you like games that tackle these kinds of subjects, I highly recommend "Night In The Woods". it is also, imo, a piece of art.

    IzzyHRC unfortunately trying to get health insurance in this country is next to impossible when you have a pre-existing condition such as this. That's another topic, though. • @IzzyHRCsVids

    @IzzyHRCsVids

    Matthew Davis Luckily health insurance here isn't that much of an issue. Which is good since medication/professional help isn't cheap. But in countries where this is an issue... You have a condition => can't get health insurance because of that condition => can't get help due to lack of funds => condition doesn't change or gets worse => loop. Can imagine, if something similar happened to your grandmother, that that is a terrible scenario. Luckily people like yourself can still be counted on to understand the situation and provide support. Another topic indeed... Ha, thanks, but the position I described, where a lot of people find themselves in, is nothing compared to the time before diagnosis and treatment. So no 'sorry' needed, especially not for someone like me, who has the benefit of good healthcare. As an end note: Life is life, we can only try to make the best of it! ;)

There are a lot of combos and stylish chaining maneuvers hidden behind the scenes that of course the game isn't going to tell you about. It's still not perfect or a standout of technical achievement, but if or when you figure this out, the swordplay feels a LOT more satisfying.

I play certain games for 100s of hours, but I also very much enjoy story driven shorter games, they both different categories of games that fill a different need and can entertain you in different ways. They are complementary rather then exclusive. As for the kiddies part, If I was a kid with limited funds I wouldn't get this game, unless I had a special interest in the mental Illness part (Apparently the game helped a lot of people who are suffering from psychosis), but I wouldn't bash this game either.

The overall quantity of combat is on the lighter side when compared to most action/adventure (living nightmare) games, but very gratifying when you beat a section. The story, combat, and experience gets better and better as you play. Overall, 9/10 IMO. Note that you definitely must use headphones/earbuds to get the full experience. It's just not the same over speakers.

I actually appreciated the runes after I've watched the documentary and learned it's not just some random tool to annoy the hell out of me at times, but actually was also constructed to show something that people with psychosis can actually suffer from. The whole making off process of this game is made me love it even more. I also plan on replaying it, probably several times - it's been too long already.

    I've been following the game for about 3 years now, watching the dev diarys every now and then, mostly in the beginning when they were fleshing out their ideas, and I'm very happy its finally here. Im about halfway through the game and honestly I'm loving it. The combat is fun and reminds me of a Souls-like, which is my favorite series of games of all time. The sound is magnificent, the best in a game that I have played yet and visually the game is quite good for being made by such a small team (most triple A games can't even reach this level with a team 3 times the size). I agree that the symbol puzzles get a bit tire-some after awhile but I also enjoy the fact that they force you to move around the environment, if they weren't in the game, a lot of people would just breeze through the sections without looking around since there isn't really any collectables in the game besides "story stones". I guess another gripe would be that the game follows sort of a pattern i.e. open gate to area, solve minor puzzle, fight some enemies, move to next area and repeat until boss (atleast up till where I am which is chapter 6) All in all, the game is a master piece for the size of the team and amount of money it was made for (yes, budget should 100% go towards a games rating). They also made the fair marketing tactic of selling it for what they felt it was worth. They know its not a full budget game with a 20 hour story and a endless multiplayer, but the fact that it isn't but feels so close to one is what makes Hellblade a 10/10. It is an experience like no other, and tells the story of Senua very well and I hope Ninja Theory continues to produce these so-called "double A" games.

    This game is absolutely amazing. To me, the length of a game does matter. I like long games because it gives me time to get to know the characters and the environments. Mostly, it just keeps me busy. Hellblade was short, but you connect with senua in such a deep and emotional way. What makes her so unique is the fact that she has psychosis and you see it in her eyes. You actually can see what it's like to have this disability. Everything about this game is amazing and OMG the end😍

Combat tho gets pretty annoying later on when 15 of them come at you at once but at least some challenge and its really frustrating me.. The worst part was one puzzle (you prolly now which im talking about, in a house ) where i didnt know where to go and i died multiple times resulting the curse spread to my shoulder.. since then i never died and i hope i wont cause its rly close and frustrating BUT ! I love that feeling :) I think they did a much butter job with this game than any other so far and the Voice acting and face expressions + the movement of the character is AMAZING... for me this title is definitely 10/10 despite its minor faults BUT hey... it was done by a small developer Team alone, not like they are EA or whatever ;)

    This is an excellent game. Truly a masterpiece. The graphics are absolutely amazing. The character interaction is what makes this deeply phenominal. The psychosis along with the environment brings the reality and the depth of Senua's mind a millions steps beyond what Russell Crowe encountered in A Beautiful Mind. The whispers, the presence of Truth and the indescribable anquish this character exhudes is tremendous. I really hope that the developers have a sequal in store.

    For some reason playing this game really reminds me of the feelings I got playing through Indigo Prophecy, which holds up as one of my favorite games of all time. The unease, the discomfort, yet being totally absorbed in the story. The game is beautiful...and it holds you in the moment at all times...not allowing you to blast through it...there isn't an escape, you need to see where the path leads. I personally think it's something you should at least play once.

    I purchased this game today, and heard literally nothing about it beforehand. I looked at the box, thought “Ooh, Celtic and Nordic lore. Nice.” Purchased it. I got home, and told my buddy to load it up. He looked at the title, and was immediately excited. It was then that I read the box completely, and got just as excited. A collaboration with neuroscientists and patients to produce a game explaining psychosis through the veil of 8th century legend, while also consulting with a historian in order to accurately portray the time and beliefs! Where has this game been all my life!? The game is freaking amazing, and, while some aspects are frustrating, it’s storytelling is intense and compelling. All while giving a glimpse into the lives of those that suffer from this malady. I honestly can’t give it enough praise. This is THE most important game of this console generation as of his time.

    4K maxed graphics on PC with Dolby Atmos headphones makes this the best gaming experience i've ever had. RD2, BF4, and Shadow of War are all beautiful PC games, but this game right here is so underrated. You have to play this on PC with good headphones. It's like playing and watching a really good LOTR and Dark Souls game combined.

    Before you buy: don't expect an actio packed experience or a hack n slash, the greatest aspect about this game is the narrative and the protagonist's mental illness. Play it with headphones, it makes you as anxious as her. And the fact that it deletes your save file for dying too much makes you even more anxious. Great awesome experience so far, the bad guys are creepy as shit.

    Actually, the fact that the game is so repetitive is because of the different symptoms of psychosis. People with this illness see things that aren't there, see different shapes that are connected to different things, at least for them. They see a lot of weird things going on around them. Basically, everything in this game is based on these symptoms (like the rune searching and matching), so that makes this whole kinda flat gameplay justified for me. I mean, they really did a great job depicting these things.

    I think too many people use the whole psychosis bullshit to claim areas of the game that are not good, were done on purpose so it makes it good. Which honestly, is a load of shit. Psychosis and many other mental illnesses don't really work like this.What one experiences with a mental illness can vary quite greatly due to differing symptoms, and intensities of those symptoms. So you can have two people with psychosis and have 2 very different experiences. Point I am trying to make here is that, we shouldn't give excuses for repetitiveness, even if it was intentional. This game has made some people feel sick while playing due to some of the features, like chromatic aberration, and would you believe some people claimed it was done on purpose to make you feel like you have psychosis. Ridiculous how people come to these conclusions.

  • @FartingSquirrel

    @FartingSquirrel

    At first, I was a bit disappointed in the game because of its repetitiveness. And maybe the fact that is was done on purpose doesn't justifies it completely, it made me accept it. I mean, really everything was done to make it more immersive, as you can see in the 20 mins long dev video. And of course, every sufferer of this illness experience it differently, but what you have seen in the game was Senua's way of experiencing it - I don't know what you are trying to say with that. How else could they depict this illness any better? If they would have made it more diverse with more gameplay elements, then it would have been much more symptoms for Seuna which makes it less realistic. I mean, now she's hearing that, the next minute she's seeing this, and after she's sensing the sorrounding in a completely different way... It would have been too much. But as it is, she's having the same symptoms throughout the game since she's having the same illness, of course. For me, it just makes it acceptable that the game is repetitive. The game is much more about Senua's mind, and the story than about gameplay.

  • @b-bunnygaming9493

    +Farting Squirrel Was the only purpose of the game to show the mental illness? If not, that is my point. You don't have to make it repetitive just because you are trying to make the character have a mental illness. Also, in order for something to be immersive, it doesn't need to be entirely realistic, it just needs to contain enough realism to be passable. My point of mentioning that the mental illness differs from person to person was that the game doesn't even really accomplish showing you what psychosis is like, it only accomplishes of showing what it's like for Seuna. But many people see the game as some way to experience what it would be like to have psychosis. I am just showing that big selling point, isn't even legitimate.

  • @FartingSquirrel

    @FartingSquirrel

    6 жыл бұрын

    Well, yes, it was the purpose of the game to show how mental illnes is. That's why they consulted with professors and also people with psychosis. They dedicated this game to the mentally ill people, I think, though I might be wrong, they even donated some of the income from the game. And yes, it's still a game, but isn't the only one without a 'proper' gameplay. At first, they wanted to make a hack n' slash game with some background story for the main character. Then it got a little bit more serious and eventually became a story-oriented character drama with some fighting in it. And I still don't understand how else could have they managed to show us how psychosis really is? There's only one character in the game; how many characters should they use to 'properly' show us this illnes? Well, since - according to you - it differs from person to person (which might be true, but obviously there are some consistent symptoms which determines the illnes of the person), none would be enough. "But many people see the game as some way to experience what it would be like to have psychosis." - It is how it would be for some.

    +farting Squirrel www.polygon.com/2017/9/15/16316014/hellblade-senuas-sacrifice-mental-illness Not that I generally feel like polygon is a good source XD. But my point is some people feel it's really not a good representation of the actual mental illness. *"And I still don't understand how else could have they managed to show us how psychosis really is?"* The issue is, they didn't at all, they only manged to show you a character who has psychosis, but it doesn't really show you what psychosis is really like specifically because it changes from person to person. If their goal was to show how mental illness is, they would have done a better job by actually having various characters. From my view, they went game first, and mental illness second. But they didn't do that good of a job at the game itself. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but it's way way overrated and has blown up as if it's something super duper amazing. It's not really. Well .. not to me it isn't I mean. A lot of what happens in this game, is actually present in various other games within similar genres. You just don't have the whole mental illness selling point. Did you know most fictional characters in games and movies have some form of mental illness? It's actually done that way because it makes character more interesting and fun to watch.

    There are probably *5* main aspects to the game _(very minor spoilers ahead)_ : *The Story* - The story was amazing, definitely an unexpected ending, leaves you guessing. Great length, lets you choose a day to sit down and play it all the way through, love games like that. I love the way they merged film with game footage, it was an interesting art choice, though it worked. The beginning was a definite hook, straight away you're plunged in at the deep end, much like dark souls, the first thing you have to do is kill some bosses, fire guy was my fav. When you get in to Hel, I think the story did drag a little bit, but it was still nicely broken up by the tree sequence. *The Combat* - The combat, although simplistic, is very satisfying overall, very hack-n-slash. One thing that got on my nerves, especially towards the end when you have to fight multiple enemies at once, was the dodge mechanic, it felt as though you didn't move much when you dodged, and the autolocking camera meant I would have to dodge sideways alot to line up enemies (so I wouldn't get hit by more than one) - however in single combat I love the dodging. The amount of enemies (towards the end) that you have to fight at once, combined with their health pool, means I could be fighting a single fight for near 15 minutes (think ocean of blood), and that was being careless and rushing in like a true viking. I can't comment on the blocking as somehow I managed to finish the entire game without blocking. *The Puzzles* - The puzzles were quite simple, and really served as filler for filling in plot lines, as well as the runestones of course. They were an enjoyable pass time while I was caught up to speed. The puzzles that were not story, such as the beast puzzles, or crows, were very fun, utilising the voices to help you was a great idea. The face puzzle and the crow puzzles were my favourite. I didn't really get stuck on any, however at times there may have been some unnecessary walking around and backtracking. *The Enemies* - Overall, they were very well designed, very cool looking - especially first boss fire man. My main qualm with them was that some of them were a bit hard to fight, mostly dual axe guys because of their high hp and fast movement/fast attacks, although being a souls lover, I wasn't really that phased (I just wasn't expecting any challenge). The fights only got me when there were multiple people (ocean of blood). The bosses I thought were overall really varied and great, some were a bit tanky but that's just my inner adc main wondering why I can't one shot things yet. *The Voices* - Really, the best aspect of the game right here, there are some puzzles in the game that have audio to help, and at one point, the voices in senua's head were so loud, and masking the audio cues so much, that I actually caught myself saying "shut up" aloud. Yeah, the game got to me. These voices are what immerses you so fully in the story. Must be played with headphones, absolutely amazing feature. The graphics were good on UE4, ran very smoothly for the most part, it seemed as though during some cutscenes the framerate struggled a bit, but that was a minor drop from 60 to 45, hardly noticeable had I not had a small green fps counter in the bottom corner. The design choices in having no HUD or minimap, combined with the voices and the great story meant I was fully immersed, and didn't want to stop playing from the minute I switched it on, to the minute I finished the game 9 hours later (I did watch an episode of GoT in the middle though during a break). Overall amazing game, especially for the price. 9.5/10
