New school is my least favorite style. I don’t wanna be a 40 year old man with cartoons on my body.

Whew. Jesse’s talent is obvious, but that style is basically everything I personally would not want on my body. I feel like it’s such a gamble going on this show so I’ll stick to paying for my tattoos lol

It’s not a gamble cause they can all tattoo just as good or better than any of your tattoo artists. It’s a free tattoo so it can’t be a gamble. Also, you know what your signing up for an you give the green light before it’s put on your body. Idek what your talkin about lol

Even though I wouldn’t get one because I personally wouldn’t want it on my body forever, I love Jesse Smith’s tattoos. They have so much character, they are all so special. You’ve never seen something like them, they are so bold, so saturated, with amazing detail and they all have such unique stories. I think only a true artist can do such a thing

I thought that too, until one day I decided I wanted something that would remind me of the wonderful times my husband and I went scuba diving, when I was old and grey. So, I got a dolphin on my ankle. My husband died, so now when I look at it I can't help but think of him. I am also considering getting a tattoo on my heart that looks like our initials carved into tree bark. For him.

Anthony's story hits too close to home for me. My cousin Sharon went in for gall bladder surgery and was given too much anethesia which caused brain damage and she died two weeks later, still in a coma. Blew me away to hear Anthony relate the exact same story...

That's so scary. I had total gallbladder failure and had to have it removed at 19. It's such an unusual problem (at that age) it took them over a year to diagnose it.

I’m so sorry for your loss! I just lost a very close Cousin myself due to a Doctors neglect. She went in for a colostomy and they actually dropped her off of the table! 😡 She was sent home without them saying anything to her about it and died two days later. She even called the office from home saying that she thought something was wrong and was blew off! Needless to say! They are suing the Doctor. She wouldn’t have known anything about it if one of the Nurses didn’t contact her or someone! I can’t recall exactly how that part came about.

Jesse has such a unique, carefree and well-established art style and perspective. The only issue for me is that he occupies a very niche customer base for people who want his creatures on their body forever. Prints, merch, illustrations? Hell yeah, they're beautifully gross, bright and happy. Immortalised on someone's body? Definitely not gonna happen as often

Even with cartoony characters anatomy still matters. It's cartoony, not Lovecraftian horror. Part of the art is making weird anatomy work. Otherwise you can just stick anything anywhere and call it a "style."

Jesse struggled with the colors, possibly out of nerves, but he also did what he is best at. Anthony doing something that he doesnt do normally and struggled with before shows he wants to grow as a tattoo artist

As someone that does illustration I can tell you that anatomy is absolutely relevant to cartoon characters. You can push certain shapes but it still needs to make anatomical sense. You need to be able to see how a body part is connected and imagine that being functional. Even though his style is made up creature designs I definitely see a lot of issues anatomically that is making that tattoo hard to read.

Anatomy doesn't need to be true to life, but it does need to make sense within the internal logic of the character and artistically it needs to be readable. That's what they were critiquing in that tattoo.

Freehanding an octopus drawing is ridiculous in how hard it must be, but Laura absolutely killed it. Her tattoo was incredible

@@aft5264 Nope, most best artists are highly specialised in one style only. If you don't expect traditional artists to draw stuff out of their style, you shouldn't demand it from tattoo artists. That's why ink master is quite a stupid show - no artist is and should be a jack of all trades.

Anthony and DJ are two of my favorite artists.

Anthony is a beast...I still hate that Cleen lost against him but you have to love that guy. Always chill and always giving everything he has.

it was nice to see the women have such lovely praises at the end. been watching a lot of ink master, and the beginning seasons feature a lot of sexism and misogyny, so watching laura and dani get such good, well deserved feedback made me smile!

I loved Jesse and he's a great artist, but he relies on his comfort zone of new school too much. He killed the Japanese tattoo, but he did new school for pretty much everything else including the haircut when it was based on line work

I'm not a tattoo artist so I might be speaking of inexperience and lack of knowledge of the artform. I'm a regular illustrator so I can at least recognize the amazing creature design and illustration skills he has. Dude basically created a super fun an interesting creature, with a back story, and rendered it to what seems to my eyes as near perfection.

Understandable but like previous comments said, he relied on his comfort zone too much and got cocky with it. He didn’t choose to showcase anything out of this world and because his style is so unique, even if someone wanted to help him, how could they? Anthony however was ready for a swan song and swung for the fences with his approach. It wasn’t perfect but I’d much rather have that eagle than the squirrel fish.

Funnily enough her co-owner, Teresa Sharpe, beat DJ in another TV tattoo competition years before called Best Ink. If they'd gone in together then they undoubtedly would have won.

Damn that story about his sister and his mama fighting to bring her back to the point she got medals in the special Olympics made me cry. The quiet struggles we all go through that builds us, it’s sad that it’s easy to relate but a reminder most all of us have something. Salute to you if you’re still standing, you’ve made it this far through all the hurt and pain in your past ✊🏾🙏🏾💜

literally the whole point of Jesse's tattoos is that its not supposed to be a creature that lives on this planet and the judges don't understand that. That bunny fish thing doesn't need to have perfect structure if it lives in space dude. I personally think Jesse deserves to win this season. he is a true artist.

to me it’s not that it’s bad or good, but tattoos are different from traditional art because you’re adding the body into this. some things are good and creative, but on that girl and it being such a crazy character, to me that’s what made it a bad tattoo. i think if he drew that out or painted it or whatever it would make the piece shine more for what it was.

They literally said that when it came to actual technical application like saturation and etc he fell off the mark in certain areas. They acknowledged the impressive creativeness of the creature. Also if he was supposed to be the artist color guy of that season why does that tattoo look washed out. Also, he went back to what he’s comfortable with. He didn’t prove mastery over the different types. His opponent literally chose a style that they destroyed him on earlier in the season. Even Ryan on her season had to do color tattoo which she hated due to her being a black and white artist.

How are people still asking why Oliver isn't included anymore?? There's multiple comments every video and every time people say why. He did a whole costume of blackface and was creepy toward women. 9:32 For the second challenge i have to say Pins and Needles their tattoo is crispy clean and damn near perfection especially considering its placed from an actual drawing. Having said that there is no denying in my eyes that Unkindness Art their DJ set will make their canvas the most proud by far and truly deeply connect with them as a person so i cant call it any different then the DJ set being the winner for me.

Jesse's art work is amazing. It's his way of expressing art. I understand that his style is unusual but you can't deny the talent that he has.

Jesse’s tattoos are technically applied well but I can’t imagine wanting one of these googly eyed things on my body but to each their own I guess.

I agree... when I get a tat, I want it to mean something to me. it will be part of me forever. not something that means something to the artist. I cant imagine people seeing that tat and asking me what it was all about or the meaning behind it...

Anthony being called the “weakest” and then winning Ink Master goes to show that not everyone’s opinions of you are valid. Dust yourself off and keep grinding!

Jesse Smith's bunny fish blew my mind away

Anthony story about his sister really touched me. On july 2,2016 my lil sister died due to the excessive anestisia that was given to her. She suffered 6 strokes and it got worst. She entered to a coma and after being on a coma for 6 hours she suffered the last stroke. The hospital tried to deny the fact that my lil sister died from the excessive anestisia thanks to the autopsy we got the truth. RIP CELIA SOSA

Jesse being eliminated was nonsense. It was literally a 5 on 1 situation where Anthony still didn't fix the issues he had with his Eagle. Had someone mentioned to Jesse that it needed to be more saturated, even a passing gesture he would have at least won that round. Would he have won the competition? probably not, but its ridiculous that any of the other artists had a say while either of them were tattooing.

They said it came down to technicalities. And Anthony had people wanting to help him because Jessie created something that is entirely his own style and you CAN'T help someone do something like that. No was behind Anthony telling him HOW to tattoo or correcting mistakes.

The fact Anthony was voted weakest still surprised me so much. I love his tattoos and designs

Out of all the ink master seasons I've watched, I absolutely love Rayn Ashley n Anthony.. They came with the least experience but damn did they slay.. Their tattoos r just gorgeous✨

@@sbbperson lmao really 🤣 ya I read through some other comments and did a quick Google search...fuckin ridiculous how people care so much about what one guy thought was funny 15 years ago...like do they thoroughly vet all the artists they have on their show, like go through old tweets, their Myspace and Facebook pages etc lol all of us at one point have said or done stupid racist shit, this whole cancel culture world is dumb. coming from someone who is a "POC" 😂😂😂

My chest tattoo was done free hand. It’s amazing! I know nobody else will have this exact tattoo. Truly a piece of art.

I actually totally would get that fish on my thigh. I like it. I can’t imagine how cool it would be if we came up with something together. I dig the eyes and the tentacles and I love the color palette.

Jesse's art is way superior. It is unique and so obviously HIS work. That's what makes art good ... something that is aesthetically pleasing as well as recognizable as being that artists' signature style.

Laura is one of my all time favorite contestants. And her octopus here is incredible in the color gradient of the red how those suction cups pop. I'd wear that as is. But still surprised the judges didn't even mention the weird shoddy holidays all over those blue diamonds

"Ive been waiting for this challenge. This is my style. Im walking away with this challenge"...everytime someone says this.....they choke!!!!

If they did it by season, captioned each challenge, just posted quick clips. Might work. Cut out explaining the challenge. Cut out the work of drawing, tattooing, working with clients. Cut out judging. Might work.

Adds the freehand Octopus to my list of "tattoos I'd get on me". Laura's tattoo, Kelley's Day of the Dead girl and the Lady Pirate back piece from on of the finales.

A lot of tattoos that the judges dont like I usually end up liking 🤣

Laura's tattoo was legit wow i felt like i could see the sea in the eye of the octopus it felt like it had a personality

I think this is amazing. I can't even put things like this on paper, let alone skin!

I would love that owl tatoo, it was amazing!

I will say Jesse does the eyes SO beautiful…only wish the creature had been more lovable I guess but the backstory made me smile and like it a bit more.

Isn't line weight a thing in tattooing? I mean in drawing there is but...i think lines need to have a dynamic movement some places thick and some places feathered out

The thing I feel is Jesse's artistry for me would work better on my wall in my room than on my body.

Given the "functionality" of the fish, I'd like to point out that sunfish also dont really "function".

Jesse is a really good artist. I feel bad he didn’t make it twice.
