I like her too, as a person. I’d choose some of her tattoos, but she doesn’t really step out of her “comfort zone” with styles. I enjoyed Angel’s style more - it was versatile.

She loves and perfects and prefers black/white but when brought up to the challenge she delivered every time. Also yea while there are a LOT of tattoo styles that are more common with color, there is barely any style that you HAVE to use color for. You must be blind if you watched this whole video, saw her become inkmaster OVER A COLOR PIECE and still think she's bad.

Its because of the challenge and type of tattoo. It was supposed to be photo realistic-ish so they had to nit pick all of the mistakes made, regardless if the client was happy with it or not

I thought Ryan’s toddler portrait was pretty spot on, just a little stylized. The other guy’s tattoo looks kind of droopy, I really don’t know what the whole “his is more accurate” thing is coming from honestly. If that were my child and I got Ryan’s tattoo, I’d be so stoked by how cute and accurate it was,

i love ryan because she focused on the challenge but still treated her clients like people not "canvases" and even when she knew she couldn't do something because it wasn't her style or wouldn't be good for the challenge or the tattoo.

As a female tattoo artist, do you see biases towards the men on the show because tattooing is such a male-dominated career? I just wanna open the conversation up since a lot of people in other replies are pretending like there aren't any sort of disadvantages that a female tattooer on the show (or in life) has to face. Like a biased judge who thinks an Oopa Loompa tattoo is better than your portrait-realistic tattoo

@@enbeast8350 I do indeed! There’s still a lot of sexism and bias in the industry towards us women. I’ve encountered a lot of sexist old men pigs who run ‘studios’ in my short 4yrs tattooing already. It’s grim. I’ve also had a few comments saying “no way a girl could have tattooed this!” And then they see me and they either go “oh” or further their shitty comments such as “you must be transgender then!” 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think this is why this season was so wicked to me to see those gals absolutely smashing it!

Crazy how she freaks out about doing color yet her color work is still better than the majority of the other artists I've seen on this show. Honestly think she's the best artist to come out of this show.

I believe it takes true strength as an artist to know your boundaries instead of just ignoring your weak points. Everyone is so hard on Ryan for voicing her concern about colored tattoos. Tattooing as an art, really is something you should transparent about. Tattoos are fucking permanent. I'd prefer an amazing black and white tattoo than a shitty color tattoo. Props to Ryan to having the balls to be vocal about her weak points, specifically to her canvases. Instead of being egotistical and pushing the narrative that she's a master at everything, she was truthful.

I love how eventually she grew as an artist into being able to do colored tattoos despite it not being her specialty. What a bad ass.

I think the problem with the child's face portrait is that she's turned the face toward the perspective of the viewer, and opened the right eyelid to show off the iris, which the canvas really emphasized was a thing she wanted to show - the really colourful eyes. The judges are right in that it doesn't technically match the photo 100% hand as a printer style, but those changes are not just acceptable but necessary to show off the features the canvas actually wanted. The hair is meant to survive healing and time longer to maintain a consistent shape and the distinctive curls, and appropriately changes shape to fit the new perspective of the face. I think the critique is overly harsh and unwarranted, mainly for the purpose of drama. It's actually a brilliant artistic choice I thought.

Thank you!!!! I can't stand how little anyone thinks about healing. Ink spreads and settles, and tattoos that look good healed are way more important than Instagram-ready fresh tatts. I really wish Ink master followed up and got 1 year and 5 year healed photos for every tattoo

Yes they are horribly biased! In Season 3 they kicked off the best artist right away because he didn't have any tattoos of his own.

The guys, especially the one at 9:55, were clearly just mad because Ryan was an attractive, well-dressed, talented tattoo artist that would never be interested in them or talk to them outside of this show.

I agree!!!! They critiqued her on the hair and eyes….but most artists should know that those are two of the most defining features of any person. Her going for a more stylized route, while keeping it pretty realistic was definitely the right choice. The eyes on her drawing were actually even, and weren’t drooping like her competitions eyes. Plus, the fact that the other artists tattoo will fade, and probably lose the nose of the drawing is even worse. I agree with Ryan’s reaction to the criticism, she got way too much shit when hers portraits were one of the best!

how are the judges sitting there getting onto ryan for a slight difference in the eye shape or the eyelashes on the toddler when kevin’s entire face was wonky? the eye shape was far more botched than ryan’s and it’s definitely reasonable that she wanted them to get just as closely critiqued as she did. that wasn’t fair. her’s was so much better than kevin’s.

Honestly it gets really obvious they don't choose the winners based on tattoo quality but drama/popularity, and the criticism is often completely made up gibberish when they can't actually find good reasons to pick a specific winner. "yeah dude look at that contrast" "the colours pop out so much" "those lines are so crisp"

I really admire how Ryan is not afraid to be firm about her strong suits when she tattoos. She never brags about being a master at stuff she's not as good at

Yeah honestly, throughout (can’t speak for season 13 onward) it’s only Ryan and Anthony I actually *like*. Some people are fine but they’re actually humble and nice

She seems like the absolute best artist to work with from a client standpoint because when you want something that she doesn’t do she doesn’t scream at you to change it to something she specializes in

My artist was on ink master angels. He told me that at one point in the show, they wanted to pick the worse tattoo, in order to cause an uproar from the fan base to turn favoritism towards him. They do this kind of shit just to make us mad! And to keep us interested in a specific artist we think should have won. His name is Blake Thomas, an artist out of NWA for anyone wondering. He wound up quitting the show after they tried to pull that

Ryan just constantly makes me think that she's a Victorian Vampire Queen that's made it to the modern age. She's insanely hot on every level. Why would anyone wanna get tattooed by anyone not named Ryan is beyond me.

I feel like Ryan got critiqued unfairly. I think the tattoo of the toddler and the Medusa tattoo were both great. The toddler looked almost exactly like the photo but with a bit more character. That Medusa one was incredible and I see why she stood up for it. I couldn't see what they were critiquing in it at all.

I think honestly they only critiqued her so hard because they knew she was capable of more and they were pushing her(also good tv) vs the other competitor was ONLY critiquing them because they were women. His frustrations with them and her in particular were rooted entirely in sexism vs the judges who seem to really respect her just she had some mess ups and they know she could do more.

I'm so happy she won, she really did deserve it. She makes incredible work, her attitude kinda bothered me at times but 10/10 choice. Really did deserve it.

Dave definitely had a soft spot for Ryan, and I don’t blame him. Her finale tattoo with the 90s hotrod was the best tattoo of any of the seasons.

Thank god too lol. I had to stop watching seasons of this when the judges and other contestants were just so misogynistic, and actively searching for things to hinder any of the female tattooers. Some of the judges never voted for any of the women's tats if they were head to head w a dude. Everytime they were called "sweetheart" or whtvr just ugh. Got old and irritating realllll fast

I remember watching the finale live and her saying “I just don’t like colour” with one of the most gorgeous colour pieces in the entire show was such a big dick move. I love this woman so much.

As someone who's dreaming of becoming a tattoo artist, Ryan is everything I wanna be someday as one and she's a huge motivation for me.

For once I would love to see a competition reality show where the judges also have to do the challenge, same time crunch, same everything. Of course we would have to trust the producers to make it fair/not give them special treatment, but I think it would be an entertaining concept.

Ryan is the best artist to ever be on this show. She never does a bad tattoo. Her artistic skill, her designs, her professionalism, and her ability to work with the client is all top notch. I also admire her fearlessness to tackle genres she isn't comfortable with, and always knocks it out of the park--incredible.

I watched this on 2x speed while having "tips for first time tattoo" videos play through on autoplay in the background as I do some job applications, and now I'm super proud of Ryan even though I have never watched the show and have my first tattoo tomorrow lol...Congrats Ryan! The misogyny on the show was very obvious even in this abbreviated video and you stuck through it. That's not easy! You deserved the win, 100%

She is gorgeous, her own tattoos are amazing, her style black and grey is right up my alley, her ink is dope every time, her makeup and hairstyle is always madly stunning, I love the way she talks and gestures, she's so ladylike, soft and elegant, yet firm and strong, no bullshitting her, she is officially 1) my woman crush 2) my new role model 3) huge inspiration, I find myself kinda emulating her gesturing and whatnot and it makes me feel more badass and elegant at the same time. Only other woman who ever nailed so well being gorgeous and badass in same measures is Taylor Momsen, but not even Taylor has all this beautiful tapestry on her opalescent skin! Mark Neill the problem is they attack the female artists with harsh criticism and then don’t do the same for male artists and it’s an all male panel so it feels biased especially how they edit how the girls react it makes them look like they are being over emotional when they are standing their ground

we all know in 2016 Ryan Ashley Tattoing for only 4 years and she won Ink Master Season 8 and Becoming first Female win History of Ink Master. In 2019 She won 25,000 Dollars Battle of the Coaches

definitely deserved to win, she is an amazing tattoo artist

She is undoubtedly one of the best contestant and has done consistently well throughout.

things I love to see: 1. how other competitors get all giddy (smirks, wiggles) when she gets critiqued 2. how they shake their heads/roll their eyes when she gets complimented 3. how natural it is for others to just talk over her as though it doesn't matter what she's saying Suuuuper, super cool, classy behavior from mature adults. Really gives you a good idea of the kind of people they are, and the kind of people they think they are.

It's such plain and obvious jealousy. We know who is on another planet in terms of skill and talent on that show and that would be Ryan. They just hate being out competed by a (extremely talented) woman, and who still makes kickass tattoos when she tries styles she's never done before. She makes them all look bad LOL

I find her annoying not cause she's a great tattooer but cause she's willing to lie and be extremely manipulative while talking about integrity.

the fact they said Ryan's tattoo didn't look like the toddler...i mean his mother was looking at it and seemed pretty pleased

Even her worst tattoo was a thousand times better than every single person on that season could do and more

To even be able to design and draw these artworks is phenomenal, but to also have the ability to embed these into someone's skin? Mind-blowing.
