Nice job. The rakers just in front of the tooth also needs to be filed down. Just a little below the top of the tooth. If not, at some point. That connects before the tooth has a chance to cut and it will ride on the tops of those and not cut. The first sign is more of saw dust rather then chips. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I was thinking about that. This is just something I did without putting any time into research. With a purchased sharpener are they removing material from the top of the tooth as well? Seem like that would be the only way to get them down below the rakers. Am I thinking of this correctly?

@@dexterranch Sort of. Sthil makes a hand file system that does it all in a few strokes. With your method or any single file style, you go back with a flat file and file them down. You can purchase a gage to help with this. I believe you have to do the same thing with most of the less expensive grinder systems.

I’ve seen those and considered buying one many times. As I said in the video this chain was given to a gentleman that has all the jigs a couple of times. When it came back it cut and was usable, but not near as well as after doing this. Maybe he doesn’t know how to use his own equipment, but I would suggest anyone to give this a shot before spending even $60 on Stihl’s file jig just to see the result. Specially for home owners that don’t use their saw to make money.

@@dexterranch Okay so I tried this today. It is great. I think a guy could do this a few times and then take to a pro and have all the geometry brought back and have the rakers filed down. It only cost me 5.00 at my local saw shop. So there is a great savings here. Plus, the cost of gas to run into town. Thanks again for sharing this. I will be using my dremel more often. Interesting. I've just used the hand file with guide. 3 strokes on each tooth. I find my saw likes to cut crooked in big logs after hand sharpening. I just swap for new chain eventually.

Yeah it seams like the blade is noticeably duller after just one day of use. I got tired of buying new chains. Thanks for watching!

A good Oregon electric chain saw sharpener would do better only cause its more consistent with each tooth but that the best way if you don't own a good one

@@dexterranch I just sharpened like you said!!! Wow, that is actually amazing! It is much better than brand new. We have a whole bunch of limbs fall because of recent ice storms, and plenty to cut. For me it is 50% better than new!

Question unrelated to topic. I have a lowline cow that was exposed constantly to a bull for 70 days right after calving. What is the probability that she might be pregnant? Thanks

For me it typically happens on the 2nd cycle after calving. A cycle is 21 days, but she wouldn’t start her cycle for 60-90 days. So I would say she probably isn’t pregnant. Although it is theoretically possible.
