    I don't understand the negativity towards Claire either. I have seen a few people say she's "too perfect" and has no flaws. But that's perfect for the position they have her in as Carmy's long time crush... she's almost better in real life than how he'd imagined. All that said it's no excuse for the way he's neglected some of his responsibility to everyone especially Sid. I just feel so bad for him because I honestly don't think he's ever been in a relationship and he's sacrificed a personal life for his profession. He does deserve some sort of balance.

    agreed! It sucks that he hasn't been able to fully navigate both avenues, but I hope he gets there in future seasons

    I think the most important thing for me is that from the outside perspective of a viewer, it's reasonable to be pissed at carmy for not communicating with syd, and he's wrong for that, but ultimately all of his closest friends and nat are genuinely happy for him with his relationship with claire, and that's how i see it too.

    Folks love to hate Claire because she’s a woman. If it was because she’s not a well-written woman, it should be directed at the writers. If it’s because Claire interferes with their ship of Carmy and Sydney, it should be directed at Carmy. If it’s because she’s open to a relationship when Carmy shouldn’t be, then once again the hate should be directed at Carmy. If it’s because she’s available when Carmy shouldn’t be entering a relationship, then once again the hate should be directed at Carmy. IMO Claire is literally hated for just existing in a space folks don’t think she should be, even though she’s been a kind and supportive character the entire time.

    I really like Claire as a character, and I like Molly Gordon's job acting her. She exists in a place she shouldn't, and that's the point. Carmy's life is chaotic, he has a million personal issues he refuses to address, he can't focus. Claire has her life together, she is kind, she's emotionally healthy, she's the real deal. So yeah, she shouldn't be there, because she's basically trying her best to help a guy who can't be helped because he doesn't want to help himself. The cinematography works to show that; she's shot in a dreamlike manner, almost as if she's so good for Carmy that it must be a dream that she's fallen for him.

    AHHHH your reaction videos bring me so much joy!!! You’re soooo funny and you kill me all the time! But alsooo, the absolute hype and love you feel for all these characters is soooo refreshing! I watched the bear 3 times already in anticipation of season 3 and ahhhh, you’re making me want to rewatch everything for a 4th time LOL! Also, I love Claire as a character so much!! She’s so charming and literally so good for Carmy! He just needs to work on his work life/personal life balance for sure! ALSO HOLYYYYY! I didn’t even realize that Will Poulter’s character was taking about Carmy until you pointed it out. Never really considered that cause my thought process was “it wouldn’t make sense for the other chef to be Carmy because Will’s character definitely would’ve said to Marcus that it WAS him and not refer to him as the other chef”! Especially since Carmy definitely arranged everything Omg I absolutely loved your perspective on the opening shot with Marcus and his grandma. Never saw it that way

    The negativity towards Claire is more of the ”right person at the wrong time”. But that's Carmy's problem with being unreliable. Claire didn't do anything wrong. He's the issue.

    From what I’ve seen, a lot of the negativity around Claire boils down to ”right thing at the wrong time”. Obviously Carm needs a genuine non-professional relationship in order to properly heal, but with their tight deadline he really needs to put his priority on the restaurant. And as we can see from episode 3 and 5 he is really not great at compartmentalizing. So Claire is (unintentionally of course) distracting him in a way that’s damaging his relations with the rest of the crew. I think it comes down to Carm not being as open as he should be. From the car scene, Claire seems like an incredibly understanding person-she avoids bringing up big shit like Mikey, she frames the party invite as as a transaction to avoid overwhelming him. I’m sure if Carm just said he doesn’t really have time for a relationship right now, she wouldn’t have an issue with it.

    I think part of Ebra's problem is that he's used to cutting meat, he's more of a butcher than anything else. So cutting veggies isn't his thing. I hope that's what it is, anyways, I want him to succeed so much, just like the entire crew.

    Some of the hate towards Claire is unwarranted but I do find that she's not a well written character especially for this show. I think Claire comes off as inauthentic because she's contrasted by all the other characters who seem so real (that's one of my favorite things about the Bear). Like she's a practicing physician but she somehow has time to drive hours to drop off mail? They position her as the perfect girl (beautiful, smart, and everything else in between) but she persistently pursues Carmy who hasn't done anything to warrant it (gave her the wrong number, avoids her calls, hasn't taken her out and no offense to the guy but...he's a mess). Her character is very reminiscent of mid-2000s female love interests, where she comes off like a form of wish fulfillment or a manic pixie dream girl rather than a real person. And it's totally possible that it was intentionally done but i think given how much care is put in to other characters it would've been great to see something different.

    What you missed out is that the writers purposely wrote and layered the character like that.. Because they wanted us to feel like Carmy the entire time.. Waiting for the other shoe to drop.. Because things are too perfect..

    She's a very well written character. Having known many women like this I don't get the hate. Yes practicing physicians have time to do things. Plus they weaved into the writing from multiple characters that Clair has always had a crush on Carm and everyone knew it so her being the one after him and him being shy has always been their dynamic

    I think my issue with Claire is that Im indifferent to her. Hours of watching this show and all I know is that she’s a doctor and really into Carmy. I feel like no effort was put into really making her a character with real depth & history outside of him. And her conversations with him felt very shallow. That said, them being in a rlsp isn’t an issue. The problem is Carmys inability to be her boyfriend & a reliable friend and business partner to Syd. It’s like he can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. I definitely only saw Syd and Carmy as friends at first. But there are some choices made in the back half of the season, 2 scenes in particular, where I definitely understand why ppl started to ship them.

    👍 yeah exactly. i get it was probably the writers' intention to show her as too perfect and without much depth because carmy idealizes her and doesn't know her very well. but it still didn't work for me. maybe they could've shown hints of more complexity that we'd pick up but carmy wouldn't have

    My problem with Claire is that she seems way too obsessed with Carmy and she came on too strong for my liking. Carmy seemed to not really want to get involved but just kinda gave in because of how persistent she was. Why would she hunt him down after he gave her the wrong number? I don't know, that just didn't sit well with me.

  • @everybodylovesrae_

    @everybodylovesrae_

    I really don't think she was over persistent at all, and it's fairly implied that the only reason Carmy was reluctant to get involved with her at first was because his feelings were already overwhelmingly strong for her, and he was scared he'd fuck it up

  • @Chaosm03

    @Chaosm03

    She didn't hunt him down. It's shown that she is already friends with Fak who is kind of one of Carmy's best friends. So, she just talked to him. And, Fak implies that he convinced her to contact him again. He gave her the right number and gloated about it later. Then at the beginning of their conversation she asks multiple times if it's OK for them to be talking. It's not her fault that Carmy has a huge inability to articulate his feelings to people. It's his major character flaw. If he had said it's not the right time, she probably would've understood and backed off. She's a doctor after all. Carmy was honest to her. To Claire it just seemed like regular dating nerves. She doesn't know about his deeper fears and insecurities yet. He's not good at communicating these things and indicates to her that it's a perfect time to reconnect, when maybe it isn't. It's mostly a Carmy problem.
