Really enjoyed your reaction. One of my favorite parts about the show is how realistic and layered the characters are written. Michael as you note takes the big brother role very seriously, especially with the loss of their father he really stepped up. In so many ways he's like Donna (largest personality in a room but using it to cover internal demons whilst struggling with substance abuse) but instead of dragging others down he suffers in silence as you noted. Carmy hurts in many ways because his family specifically Mikey tried to push him away to keep him safe but as a result Carmy feels betrayed. Carmy had Mikey protecting him and Sugar but Sugar really was also lucky to have Pete.

Absolutely great acting by everyone involved

lmao Jan at the start going "Oh yeah I totally relate to the mom" Also, while lee was an asshole to mikey i can't really fault him. he's watching this adult man take money from everybody around him, blow it all on drugs, and he's expected to just sit there and make nice? I get it christmas dinner probably wasn't the best time, but if I were him I'd absolutely be going "hey mikey, you're an addict. you're stealing from your friends and family and it's going to cost you everything, you fucking idiot" I've seen a lot of "oh it was so harsh of lee" but we've only ever heard about mikey from his friends and family 5 years in the future going "yep, he killed himself but he was super great" while ignoring the part where he dumped his own brother 300k in debt, which would have cost Sugar her house too because he hadn't bothered doing taxes. like, obviously sugar, carm and rich loved him, but he was a fuckup, and we finally get to see it. Also Lee's just a friend of Cicero's, but it's likely that him and Donna were involved at some point in the past, hence Mikey's disgusted "We doing this again?" when he finds Lee talking to his mom in the kitchen.
