I've owned my Tomcat for approx. 16 years. No malfunctions. Easy to load, maintain, fire (even rapidly), conceal, and not expensive. When I was in law enforcement and an investigator, the majority of those situations that ended badly were surprising 90% small caliber wounds. So, I am NOT dissuaded by comments that a .32 is under powered. Medical reports on gun shot incidents confirm that placement is more important that caliber. One can get off 3-5 rounds so very quickly with this gun. With the minimal muzzle jump and some practice it is easy to place all shots within a very small and combat expectable grouping. Going to the .380 or 9mm will improve your survival, but it will punish you and detract from a rapid and well placed grouping. I have on several occasions had to produce my weapon. The simple fact that you have one sends those looking for trouble away except if their suffering from mental illness! I might add that I have hand guns in .22, .32, .30, 38/.357, .45 ACP/LC, and .454 Casul. And frankly I prefer the Tomcat for my late night unwanted drives over the others. Add feature is it is an excellent ankle carry.

@@dabol4423 Well, there's two .357 chamberings; one is the Sig auto cartridge and the other is the revolver chambering. One of my carry weapons is the revolver. Frankly, I load it with .38+ as there's less muzzle jump. The auto cartridge has good performance, but as I travel, It's not alway available and expensive to shoot unless you're reloading. I don't use reloads for self protection in an auto loader. Not a good idea as they can get finicky at the wrong time. Revolvers will feed on virtually anything and the ammo is cheap to reload and more dependable. If you're looking for range/club gun, I prefer a revolver. They're easy to care for, available in SS, and .357 can be used with .38. The extra frame strength is a good idea. .38/.357 reloading is very easy. Straight case rounds are as simple as it gets and inexpensive to make. I have .45 auto and revolver. The ammo is more expensive and adds a lot of weight. At the range I have a S & W performance shop .45 ACP revolver in SS. Great gun! very accurate, and eats anything. My accurized .45 auto is extremely finicky about ammo. The most fun to shot are my matched pair of .45 LC Schofields. They are accurate and easy to care for and not at all concerned about what I put in them. I load to "Cowboy" specs at approx.. 780 fps with a 200Gr lead bullet. Having only one choice for general range use' I'd pick a single action in 357/45LC. If you hunt, the .357 would work in most States for pigs/deer. No trouble buying or making ammo either.

The ability to quickly fire 7 rounds in a very tight group due to low recoil is the Tomcats best attribute in my humble opinion .

I have had my Tomcat for 18 years.... I love it. I drop it instantly into a front pocket on my way out the front door; sure beats the 9 that I leave home because it’s a pain to pack.

An excellent review filled with relevant content, appropriately spiced with f-words. I am convinced of the Tomcat.

I’ve got one and love it! No frame cracks so far on my wide slide version...have to wait and see! Mine wears after market ivory grips. Tried to install them myself and screwed it up! Gun was inoperative and couldn’t even be reassembled by me anyway! Called Beretta and sent it to them. They assembled it properly, installed my ivory grips, test fired it and returned it to me at no charge! They even paid for the return shipping! Best customer service ever! By the way...your review is the most useful, in depth information I’ve ever viewed for this fine little firearm! Thank you! By the way...use whatever language you are comfortable with! Damn..I hate the easily offended religion nuts! I am very spiritually based..but keep your religion and your sexual preferences to yourselves! If something offends you...just don’t watch it!

Good review. I saw the tomcat at my local gunshop and I was intrigued. Went back a few days later and it was gone. After this review I'm completely sold. Now begins the long process of ordering it and waiting forever for it to arrive.

Thoroughly enjoyed your honest opinions on this little gem. Your asides break the monotony of normal gun reviews. During the years I was in LE (1962-1982) I carried a Colt 32 in my pocket as a backup. Over the following years I would carry the smaller sub compacts in IWB holsters or in a pocket. When the Ruger LCP came along in .380 I quickly attached myself to it as an ankle gun or inside my waist band with a Clip Draw. Practicing with it was painful after 50 rounds. Because I truly love the Beretta quality I bought a Tomcat and went back to 32 ACP for pocket or ankle carry. It is an awesome reliable sub compact for every reason you explained. I too was surprised that the patterns were so tight at 10/15/20 yards. Never made it to 50. I have tried Hornaday XTP 63gr in it and they run fine so I keep my carry mag loaded with them and practice with traditional 71gr. FMJ. A little splash of neon paint on the front site helps front site acquisition a little. I would REALLY like to see you review the Springfield (Croatia) XD-e 45 because I think I could become my EDC when OWB is practical and IWB is pretty comfortable.

Recently got one. Love it. I agree with every assessment here except one, working the slide hasn't been a problem for me.

As others have indicated, you really did a great job reviewing this. Thank you for taking the time to help inform people, as you address lots of the little things that people are interested in. I’m only 4 months into shooting/gun collecting (even though I’m no spring chicken - but one visit to the range with my brother hooked me), but you hit on a point that seems intuitive to me - but which others don’t mention as much when talking about caliber - namely, that getting more shots off quickly and more accurately gives you a better chance of winning the day. I’m looking forward to lots of practice with this gun (I ordered it a couple days ago and it arrives tomorrow), and comparing to how quickly and accurately I can fire my other guns which could eventually be CCs (those being a S&W EZ Shield 9mm, a Sig P365XL 9 mm, and a little Ruger LCR 327 Fed Mag revolver). I loved the idea of this Tomcat being able to shoot accurately and fast with a round that ballistically gets where it needs to. Again, nice job!

@@thegunpenguin I love 327 LCR! It feels great in the hand and is easy to shoot - at least with the 32 S&W Long ammo. I haven’t tried any 237 Federal Magnum ammo, but others say that is not so easy to shoot in this small gun (LuckyGunner site). I will say however that my groupings are not very tight with the LCR - but still sufficient for close distances. I’m looking forward to comparing speed and accuracy with the Tomcat, because even though they are different kinds of guns, they both fill the niche of small conceal carry firearms. They are basically the same weight too, with the Tomcat coming in at just 0.5 oz less. But again, I do love the LCR and recommend it.

Joe my favorite pass time is collecting guns. Many I've collected and have never shot, and that has been a good thing, as many of them have increased in value over the years. I just like firearms as that is our history as Americans. I hope you can continue to collect as much as I have.

@@gregggray7650 I like that historical perspective you have. That’s one reason why I started out with a couple S&W revolvers. Something so classic about those. I’ve slowed down my collecting a bit, as my Dad has a health issue that’s prevented him from shooting, and we had been collecting and shooting together. But I like my current 10 gun collection. One of my favorites is my 22LR Browning lever-action rifle. Just plain fun to shoot - and yes, this purchase was definitely inspired by watching Westerns.

I've got a KelTec P32 that is my summer EDC. It's nice to see someone showing some love for the .32 ACP round, because it really does have its' advantages. Over a .22--centerfire ignition, and a bullet that's almost twice as heavy as a .22 LR. Over a .380--one more round, generally, plus less recoil so as to be able to get a second round on target quicker. Somewhere in my gun-buying is a Tomcat, just waiting to be purchased. I've also got my grandfather's Savage 1917 in .32 ACP, so I have two already. Love 'em!

I have been carrying my KelTec P32 almost 20 years, I have a couple of thousand rounds of S&B down the barrel. The last great ammo shortage in 2008 had me purchasing extra range ammo when things eased up. It has never failed. I will purchase aTomcat if they ever begin shipping them again. The biggest problem is locating ammo less than 130 lbs of energy.

Great review. I have tried Over the years many firearms and calibers. I carry now a ruger lcr 327 revolver with 32 S&w long buffalo bore wad cutters. Great penetration and easy shot placement. Sometimes 327 h&r magnum.

@@thegunpenguin I'm trying to get other .32's to play with, but I love the feel, shoot ability and accuracy of the tomcat. I previously bought a bobcat and its fun to shoot too, and equally accurate. I went to the gun store to see if they had any used tomcat gun for my wife. I didn't want to spend another $589 on one though. They had no more. But a customer walked in wanting a trade with the dealer, but didn't like the $250 value trade offer. We went outside, down the street and I paid $450 for the once fired tomcat inox with 4 boxes of PMC and 1 box of ppu ammo with a hard box and nice leather back pocket holster I wanted. I figure he had about $800 in it. It was a good day. I've had some fte's, but easy to clear, (mostly out but didn't clear the slide), but only with the PMC. My ppu cycled perfectly. I know I am bidding on the guardian and may pickup the seecamp, but its hard to deny the accuracy of the tomcat at 10 yards. And its really fun to shoot. My ppu ammunition was only $20/box. I only hope I can get more, at such a good price. Every one else is at $30-$35+ a box.

Have a Galco horsehide pocket holster. I thumb the safety on and take it out of my pocket at night and thumb it off when it goes in my pocket in the morning. I work closely with people all day and no one knows that I’m carrying. I have bought the Lehigh Defense xtreme defender ammo, it works flawlessly in my Tomcat, And NEVER feel under gunned. Great review 👍

I would love to have that gun but it is too expensive, so I bought a p32 because of the extended 10 round mag and last round hold open. I love it. After did spending several days with sand paper to remove all the molding marks it is beautifully refined.......Great review, if I can find one used at a great price I’ll buy it

Thanks for the info on the P32, and for the kind words! Much appreciated! I don't mind paying $360-400 for one of these; that's what it cost me new. It was worth it, especially given that it eats any ammo I've tried. But, we're only 430 rounds in. Fingers crossed it stays this reliable.

I love the tilty flippy barrel on these. I'm going to keep an eye out for one next time I'm at a pawn shop.

Very nice job. As I indicated below I like this gun a lot. They seem expensive, but they are a well made, practical, self defense weapon. With a spare mag, 15 rounds. Easier to shoot than a dao. I would also note that you can now get pinky extenders for the mag. No extra rounds but a much nicer grip.

Sold! Agree with everything you say about ccw and edc. Refuse to modify my entire lifestyle around carrying a gun. Thus I own a .32 Seecamp but will be ordering this very gun to make up for the miserable long trigger on the Seecamp which may be getting traded in.

Very comprehensive review. BTW...Lucky Gunner has lots of .32 by PMC. My Tomcat cycles this very well and it meets the low foot pounds of energy requirement as recommended by beretta.

I knew an old guy back in the '90s who carried a Colt Pocket Hammerless .32 and when I asked him about .32 he said two things: 1) When you shoot the gun, it doesn't move, and 2) Would *you* want to get hit by a .32? Nuff said. I had a Beretta Cheetah .380 at the time and *hated* shooting it because my hand would hurt the rest of the day. I wished I had the .32 instead.

I was at the range a little while ago and there was an older man a few lanes down from me. His target was out at 25yds. I was unpacking my stuff and he started to fire. His gun made this little pop. It didn’t sound like anything I had heard before. So I walked down to talk to him. He was packing up when I approached and I asked him what he was shooting. It was a .32. He brought his target in and the target had two areas that were obliterated, center mass and the center of the head on the silhouette. When I asked him about the gun it was a Colt Hammerless. He told me it was the gun he was “trained to use”. When I asked who trained him, he just smiled and told me to have a nice day.

Informative and entertaining. Good job. I own this pistol but haven’t shot it much. You’ve motivated me to get it out and start banging away! My current pocket gun is the naa pug. 22 mag. It’s big drawback is 5 shots and no reload. Easy to shoot and accurate out to 15 feet and I’m not much of a shot. I dumped my lc9s for all the reasons you said. Uncomfortable to shoot an difficult to keep on target. Caliber size doesn’t make a lot of difference if you can’t shoot it straight. Final comment-yes the hks have a long reset but I like mine a lot.

If only we could get a single stack "tiny nine" from HK I would finally have a daily carry that I wasn't always wishing was something else. I look forward to HK releasing this by 2035 or so.

I love my 3032 wish it were 32 H&R Magnum though. I have xl hands, so the thick grips really helps me get the pad of my finger on the trigger. The thick grips make it feel like a bigger gun. I bought it for my Wife to learn to shoot with. I thought the flip up barrel would help her since she is pretty tiny. The low recoil and quieter retort/blast would be better for her. I didn't want her to learn on a loud scary gun. It didn't matter though, she never learned and it's mine now! I love being able to pocket carry it anywhere. I also think it looks cool as hell. Mostly I love that I can get my finger on the trigger correctly. It's hard to shoot da/sa when shooting with first knuckle. I can't pull the trigger far enough without screwing up my grip. All guns should offer larger grip back straps. I love the jokes too, good work👍

I own two (2) Tomcats (1 for my collection and 1 for concealed carry). My backup to the Tomcat is the Bersa 380 or Sig 938 9mil. Hoping Beretta improves this gun in the near future.

If you use HOT ammo the Tomcat WILL self disassemble upon firing, it happened to me in the’80s.

Welp its settled then Vz61 for the car and tomcat for my person lol 😂 UPDATE: went to the range this past weekend, took my uzi pro, hk mk23, my brand new hk p30l, and my brand spankin 👋 new tomcat. I thought that if i were to have a malfunction, it would be the tomcat im sure. That being said, 0 fucking issues!! …with the tomcat at least.😔 the tomcats weight makes it a joy to shoot and land tight groups rapidly, while also angering the range officers with rapid fire lol 😆 on the other hand, my new p30l had a fte on every single round! So crazy! I emailed Hk over the weekend, i hope they help.

Really excellent review. So many reviews tend to be superficial fluff but not yours. In depth and real world information for the average Joe to absorb. I bought my first tomcat approx 25 years ago and sold it 20 years ago and have always missed the lil guy. So I was pleased when I recently came across one in FDE. It’s great and the new color scheme is a nice upgrade from the basic stainless or blued versions. Here’s where it gets interesting. I went to add some new grips but when I removed the grip on the side with the thumb safety the safety spring & plunger went orbital. I’ve ordered replacements but frankly am curious if you’ve ever dealt with this because I’m not entirely certain how to properly reinstall them. I haven’t found any videos showing how and the user manual doesn’t show it either. Any knowledge or guidance you might be able to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks kindly.

Thank you for the kind words! Unfortunately, I've had the displeasure of detail stripping a few Tomcats at my shop. When taking the grips off, or working on them in any fashion, I recommend putting the gun inside of a large freezer bag. The bag will catch any flying parts, before they have time to enter a portal to the parts dimension, where they will be lost forever; at least until you move houses, and the part magically returns to our realm. The Tomcat design is excellent for when it was designed, but the disassembly procedure is brutally arcane by modern standards. When you put the grips back on, carefully reinstall the plunger and safety lever. Lay the gun on it's side, and put the grip panel on with extreme care, so as not to disturb the safety. Grip it in place while you place the other panel, and then insert the screws. This is virtually impossible for me adequately describe. It might be worth it to let a gunsmith handle anything on the Tomcat other than basic maintenance, if you don't often work on your guns. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Excellent review. You are correct on carrying loose rounds, BAD IDEA! In addition to counting rounds there may be one other option. Typically a shooter under stress will forget the round count and fire to empty without doing a tactical reload. Once realized they are out, strip out the empty mag, put in the new mag, cock the hammer, then rack the slid. Yes it will way a few more seconds. But cocking the hammer will release the tension letting the slid be pulled back easy, albeit still a heavy pull on the slide. No a criticism only a possible option. Again great review, especially talking out the .32 press curve, and the beefed up slide.

I just bought the ghost buster version and I can’t wait for it to come in

Living in burbs, in a safe area this is usually what I carry in the warmer months. 8 rounds of 32 acp is more than enough. Usually trade it off with my SW 638 for the winter months in the pocket. If I do have to go to the city, in my case Hartford or new haven it’s usually a g26 for my go to. Had a seecamp, but it’s awfully tiny, with no sights and it’s wicked expensive. Also had the p32, but couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with it. Excellent rundown!

That's exactly what I do too. I live, work, and spend most of my time in a very safe, very low crime suburban area, so a Tomcat in my pocket is plenty. If I do happen to go into the city, I go with something with a little more punch, and higher capacity.

Best review of the Tomcat I have seen. I bought mine over a year ago, but have yet to fire it. I plan on taking it to the range, post-covid; and try the Lehigh Defense Xtreme Cavitator, along with FMJs. Test videos show that the Lehigh Defense round gives the .32 auto a boost in performance in ballistic gelatin, bringing performance on par with the more popular .380 auto.

I’ve been looking at the 3032 since they were introduced. I revisited your review a few weeks ago and finally, I ordered a new Inox Tomcat. To be honest, after 30+ years of owning and shooting my 21A, didn’t need much motivation. Now if I can just find some Ammo...

Finally scored some ammo and made a trip to my range. Settled in pretty quickly and man, what a fun little gun. But Jesus, Joseph and L Ron Hubbard that trigger...I’m a perennial revolve shooter not intimidated by a heavy DA but that trigger just sucks. I’ll have to do something to address that.

Update: after flooding the pistol with CLP and a deep cleaning, plus several hundred rounds down range, the trigger smoothed out considerably. Now it’s nearly as good as my trusty old Bobcat.

Love the music, makes me think of A Clockwork Orange. Good vid.

I literally ordered this gun about a week ago after finding this review. Then, having just received the pistol, I watched this review again. You’re out here doing the Lord’s work swaying people to buy stuff

As far as grips go, I like to do a 1911 style grip where your right thumb rides the safety. Though with it being so tiny, it is just the joint of the thumb. That grip keeps you from accidentally accidentally activating the safety.

That'd be my preference as well, though that puts my hand in a position to impede the function of the slide. It also draws a bit of blood too. However, it sounds like the Tomcat was made for your hands! That's awesome! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

I bought one of these a few years back. Having "grown up" on the standard recoil mechanisms of typical auto pistols, this one did require a little finesse to take down. And it is fit very tight. Anyway this is my "sibling" pistol to my 327 Fed Mag revolver. The 327 will shoot all sorts of 32 caliber including the 32ACP since the 32Auto round is semi rimmed.

The takedown procedure is definitely strange, I totally agree! A .327 is on my list; it's very strange that, with the exception of a group of diehards, the gun community has ignored .327. That round makes a lot of sense, in a lot of situations!

BTW, I noticed that you referenced The Tower tarot card in the Tacticool GF vid, and here you showed The Devil card a couple of times. I read tarot, so that caught my attention. The Seecamp is very well-made, but I have a very hard time shooting it well, and I've noticed that other folks I know seem to also struggle with it compared to the Beretta. With the 3032, I can score hits at 25+ yards; with the Seecamp, I'd very much struggle. But, I'm also entirely willing to concede that this might come down to my abysmal marksmanship.

What is the thing on the right side on the frame above the trigger? I see it move when someone is shooting the gun but no one has said what it is.

This review is the most comprehensive and complete review on this pistol. The Tomcat I is presently hard to find but I found one that is used, but clean looking on the outside and in the barrel. However, after I flip up the barrel it is very hard to push it down back into place (about 4 out of 5 times). Should I buy it and expect a good cleaning would solve the problem? The store is asking $400, but it comes with 2 mags instead of one.

1. Thank you for the kind words! 2. Unfortunately, to answer your question with any accuracy, one would need to see the pistol in person. However, as you say, cleaning could cause the barrel to feel tight. Check the breech face for scuzz. I have several small tip-up barrel Berettas, and a bit of force is required to lock them in place, but not much. Even when completely filthy and coated with gunk, I wouldn't say the barrel is hard to lock in place. So, when you say it's very hard, that concerns me. There could be a problem with the latch, or something else. But, this is speculation on my part, trying to diagnose the problem from afar. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

I love my Model 21A chambered in .25ACP ... it doesn’t pack a wallop but I can carry it in basketball shorts lol

To me, that's the definitive version of the Bobcat! And as you note, sometimes a Glock 19 is the wrong choice, and a .25 is perfect.

Thank you so much for the support! We have a very good time on the TGP Patreon Discord. I'm with you on the Scorpion. Though I certainly like it more, and I enjoy shooting it, it's still a very poor experience next to the roller-, radial-delayed, and buffered blowback guns. It hasn't even been that reliable either.

I enjoy mine.

Great table top. Own a tomcat, love it at range for handling but first time out had a few misfeeds. Hoping next time I broke it in and extra oil will smooth it out. Might have been the mag spring honestly, seemed light, but was brand new!

Thank you for the kind words! If you don't mind, let me know how if you have any additional problems with yours. Such information helps me remove as much of my own bias as possible in future videos. Also, what ammo did you use the first time? If I have issues with the same load, we'll know that one that is a problem.

Just use sub 130ft/lbs rounds at the range, then load it up with the hotter ammo for carry. If you fire 8 - 15 rounds in a defensive situation and it cracks in the process of saving your life... then so be it. Most people just grab whatever .32 ammo and shoot without checking the energy specs, then they end up with a frame that cracks from shooting at the range and blame the gun. I shoot PMC 126 ft/lbs and carry Fiocchi 160 ft/lbs.

Thanks for the kind words! The slide definitely improved frame cracking, but Beretta seems to avoid discussing the problem as much as possible. That extra mass slows the slide down just enough to improve durability. Seems to me a redesign of the frame would've been the better way to go, right?

The 32 ACP is semi-rimmed you're better off carrying FMJ ball ammo because hollow points with a shorter profile may cause rim lock problems in the magazine.. that's where the rim of the top bullet locks onto the rim of the bottom bullet this only happens with the shorter profile hollow points stick with ball ammo you will not have any rim lock problems..

Nexus, Sytrus, Sylenth and a whole bunch of other analog VSTs called and want their synth back... and so do I. Good tunes, man. I compose wannabe trap on FLStudio. And now I also want a Tomcat. And a Cougar. Love your vids.

Something I keep thinking is Beretta could go back to the original slide thickness and then make a steel uper frame and an aluminum lower frame. With only the problem area being steel and the rest of the frame aluminum plus a thinner slide, there shouldn't be much change in weight.

Superb review. I love your earthy vocabulary (I use the fvck word a lot). I realize this is a different beast altogether, but I'm looking at a Bersa Thunder 380 as a pocket carry and wonder if you have any comments relative to the Tomcat? BTW: I'm actually a Beretta person (92FS, M9_22, 101_22), but was turned off by the reviews on the Pico.Thanks, again!

Thank you for the kind words! When I'm recording reviews, I try to speak the way I would talk to my friends. For pocket carry, the Thunder is large -- way too large for me. At that point, I'd probably carry a Makarov, Glock 26, that little PX4, or something similar in a holster. With modern pocket sizes, unless you're wearing a jacket, most people end up having to go with a mouse gun. Pocket carry is really the domain of the small blowback pistol. I think of guns like the Berettas 21A, 950, and 3032, the Kel Tec .32, any of the vintage .25s, that sort of thing. Because the idea of small pocket guns has fallen out of favor, the idea hasn't developed much in the last 100 years, unlike proper carry and service guns. The old stuff works about the same as the newer ones. Also something to consider: the Bersas are decent guns. Just decent. It'll probably work fine, and lots of people like them. But, the fit and finish won't be as good, and they are more likely to have issues with tolerance stacking. And hell, you're just more likely to get a lemon. Beretta definitely makes lemons too, but they are fewer. And last of all, .308 has harsh recoil out of a small gun, to me. I shoot 10mm and magnum revolver cartridges all day on the weekends, and I'd rather fire 10mm all day than .380 out of a little gun. One will leave me sore and the other won't. I tend to recommend .32 to most people over .380 because it's still plenty powerful with about 60% less recoil. If you're going to get 6 out of 7 rounds on target in 2 seconds out of the .32, but only 2 from the .380, which is really more effective? Not that you can't train around the .380 -- you totally can. But ammo is scarce right now, and ain't nobody got money for that. Anyhow, I hope this was helpful!
