Trijicon RMR -- A Bit Dated?

Let's take a look at one of my favorite optics. It's starting to feel a bit long-in-tooth, isn't it?

    Glad you mentioned having pistol optics on rifles. I got a Holosun 509t for my pistol and I quite disliked it for many of the reasons you described (except that it's closed emitter). However after taking it off my pistol and slapping it on my rifle, I love the thing. The consistant positioning of the face negates any difficulty acquiring the dot. And its truly life changing to have a 2-4oz optic+mount on top of your pencil barreled AR.

    I think the RMR is a bit dated. I still went with it for my 45c though just because I've never been let down by the RMR in the past. So when I got my slide milled, the RMR fills that space. I've been eying the 507C-GR-X2 though. That green Vulcan reticle is nice, after I got to play around with one the other day. I do wish Trijicon updates the RMR. Side battery tray would be nice for starters. I personally don't mind open emitter though. This is for an concealed EDC after all and my 45c isn't much of a "compact" despite its name lol. I don't consider the RMR to be top dog anymore though. But it's still a tried & true option, if albeit a little long in hte tooth and over priced now given what the competition offers.

    Yes but only because of its' open design. Close it up and it's back to being top tier. There's a few other things they could do but that's the main thing. It's like the Holosun 510 - great optic just needed to be closed up.

  • @thegunpenguin

  • @thegunpenguin

    @thegunpenguin

    Жыл бұрын

    @@XxxAtlantaxxX Many of the cheaper competitors have superior glass. Yes, they're made overseas, but very little optics glass is produced domestically. Trijicon buys from a supplier like everyone else, and has a tendency to rest on their laurels. It doesn't mean that the RMR isn't excellent, but it could be better. From a business perspective, as well as it sells, I can't fault them for leaving it as it is, but I'd like to see some innovation.

    @@XxxAtlantaxxX Oh I don't think that it's a shitty unreliable optic, I just think people (like almost anything in the gun community) have this absolute rabid, unreasonable emotional connection with gear choices. It makes sense cause this is a pretty expensive hobby and we're putting a lot of faith in these working to potentially save our lives. All I'm saying is that people choosing the RMR over a holosun, Aimpoint, SRO or any other decent quality red dot purely for reliability sake is absolute nonsense and there's plenty of data to back that up at this point. Until trijicon decides to actually start innovating, I can't think of any rational reason why anyone would sit down today and order a brand new RMR over pretty much any other red dot. Although I don't think any of the new dots coming out justify getting rid it if you already have one on your ccw gun or if you get an awesome deal on a used one.
