Bend Acrylic with Propane Forge Burner?

Watch how to use a Propane Forge Burner as a heat source to bend a curve in a piece of acrylic too large for a regular oven. Lots of videos show how to bend 90 corners with acrylic but very few should how to bend a curve. We created a curved Acrylic partition for the front of a DJ Booth for the Drake Underground in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. #drakeunderground #creativebuild

  • @itsnot_stupid_ifitworks

    @itsnot_stupid_ifitworks

    4 жыл бұрын

    I believe I cut the radius out of two pieces of 3/4 plywood and screwed on 1/4 plywood. The 1/4 flexed enough for the radius I was doing. If you need a tighter curve you could use wiggle board ( plywood designed to bend)

  • @itsnot_stupid_ifitworks

    @itsnot_stupid_ifitworks

    That is a good idea. You could possibly have the acrylic above the mold (under the heat lamps) and let gravity drop it into shape.

  • @sidha7001
    @sidha70013 жыл бұрын

    Nice- many ways to do this and no matter how good you have it, there can be improvements thought of, I saw one video where they put it in the oven - they said 350 degrees F for 30 minutes- what you did us make an oven. I think if you put some sort if flame proof insulation around the wood and also found a way to seal in the heat and monitor the temperature - that might be better - but that might be more for me to do as I need to make a set up like this for the curved yacht windows we are doing- the other big thing I need to do is find a material for the molds- we need to make 4 sided curved windows, so the mold has to be flexible and also withstand moderate heat- any ideas, let me know

    @@itsnot_stupid_ifitworks thanks, I will look for their site- intuition is telling me that there must be some clay like sheets that can be molded, then maybe when hit with fire, the clay turns more solid. That way, we can take the clay sheets to a boat needing curved and dome windows, make the mold on site, then bring it back to the warehouse and use it to make the windows
