Sir, you have my upmost respect. You always cook with such a joy! I hope someday I'll be able to cook at least 10th of those incredible recipes you show us! Greetings from Czech Republic and Hungary!
relax guys, if you read this recipe in his blog he said that he did know that satay was invented in Indonesia, its just that in this video it is satay in thai-style dont get so offended easily i'm also from indonesia btw

Totally agree with you. To be perfectly honest, when he use "fish sauce (nam pla)" and salty soy sauce, Most Indonesian wouldn't even say that it is Indonesian style~. If i have complaints, it's that he call it an appetizer, but i think he did a good recipe (already tried it myself). Also an Indonesian btw~

Agita Putri I live in The Netherlands, and there are loads of Indonesians here, so plenty of Indonesian cuisine. Here, chicken satay - Indonesian-style - is far more common than beef satay, though. Is that the case in some regions of Indonesia? (It's too big and diverse a culinary culture to assume all Indonesian food is the same, even in Indonesia.)

Adidas Love yeah, sate ayam ( its chicken satay) is pretty common, however in indonesia you have different type of satay, every region has its own way to prepare it I guess. Not every Indonesian can make a legit chicken satay, there is something about this being a "street food" in indonesia which makes it different . Though in the Netherlands the taste is nothing like the real chicken satay, except if you can find a good indonesian restaurant in the Hague maybe.

Round two of making this... Absolutely amazing!
I made this and my husband raved about how much he loved it. I also made the peanut sauce to go with it and that stuff is just freakin delicious. The flavors are amazing.
I made this for my 4th of July BBQ and it was stinkin' DELICIOUS. I did marinade it overnight, which was a bit much, but nonetheless, the flavors are just incredible in this recipe. It was gone within 5 minutes.
Oh man, we made this last night and it was possibly the best beef satay I've ever had, and I eat it out every chance I get and I've had it in Asia also. Served it with cauliflower cut into florets, dredged in flour, pan fried in butter. Oh wow, it was fantastic. Thank you Chef John. I was gonna put a picture here but I guess one can't.....
This looks absolutely amazing!
Oh Chef, I forgot about this amazing recipe! We made this probably 10 times last year. You just made me MORE excited for summer!
In malaysia we use a few stalks of lemon grass to dip in the leftover marinade to baste the satays as it is being grilled
i love the way the food just falls into the bowl, it's like a nice surprise to see every ingredient fall in and come together!
Just cooked this again but with pork, i have cooked this marinade using beef, chicken, and pork and it is awesome every time. Love it!
It's always fun to look at your videos :). The "Hello" cheers me up all the time.. and then I start learning drooling and learning :D
I could just close my eyes listen to his voice and go to sleep or just chill on a rainy day !

Cao Duy Minh lol, i just posted recently on another of chef johns recipes that he should record some tapes for people that have trouble falling asleep or have insomnia, etc... not that he is boring by no means, he just has a voice that is very soothing and mellow, and helps you to relax. I would much rather listen to him than a rippling brook or waves washing up on the seashore.
Hi love chef John so much, his videos keep me up at night craving for food haha
thumbs up for the wonderful Chef John!!! We love you!
mmmm, that looks so good, my mouth is watering! Why do I torture myself late at night watching Chef John videos and getting so hungry??? Its not just his food, i confess it's his voice! Ennnnnn joyyyy :)
I will Omar. I've done at least 20 of his recipes. All left me happy and full

4:47 ... It's 0356 am here, and I have insomnia, so I was watching to try and help myself relax and go back to bed... but "You are the Troy McClure of your skewer... you may remember him from such videos as...." just made me laugh out SO loudly, I'm sure the entire apartment building is as wide awake as me, now!
Tried it! And good God it was so good! I cheated and bought peanut sauce but still amazing. I'll make the peanut sauce. Thanks for posting this!!
I love your presentation. I will definitely try it...Thanks.
Oooo i have to try that. It looks so easy to make
so I made these this weekend and I actually began to worry while making the marinade as it was a bit strong and foreign to what I expected. After all your great recipes I skewered and tossed them on the grill. To my surprise they were amazing everyone enjoyed them. Thank you for the great recipe.
Chef John, you are this nation's backbone.
Sometimes I'll do an intentional typo just to show my humanity. Besides, it already has too many likes to delete. ;)

Chef John, you make it look so easy.

Yes! More of this!
You're my favorite food channel
Oh wow, I want to make this!
looks delicious Chef!
Wow great thanks for sharing ...
OMG! I'm definitely going to make this! :D Thank you so much for this recipe! I am also pleased to see that you didn't waste time by adding needless vegetables to a meaty satay like some people I know tend to do! :D
Looks amazing!!
Tried this last night along with the corn pudding recipe, but with an oddball variation that turned out wonderful. We got a late start, and after the marinating time, it got cold and dark outside so we decided not to fire up the grill. So we did the little meat strips in a sauce pan. The idea was to put each individual strip on a little bamboo skewer and finish them over one of those little hibachi grills like comes in the middle of a pu-pu platter. But since there was that good "stuff" left in the pan, we made gravy to dip the skewers into. Came out amazing.

Very Nice..People need to know the square skewers work better than round bamboo. The meat rolls..but you know that. Thanks for the video...Cheers
It's an Indonesian dish as well (since the two countries and mush of SE Asia share a strong history). Mainly made with cubed chicken breast. Best part of the chicken is keeping a little bit of chicken skin on the breast here and there, and so when you cook it (traditionally on open coals) it crisps a little and you get a little yummy surprised.
